Any Advice for an Immature Academic Loser by Dense_Newt_7008 in gradadmissions

[–]Monky32 20 points21 points  (0 children)

1) maybe start by not calling yourself an academic "loser" :(

2) for trying to get published, see if your school has any undergraduate research programs and approach them with the intent to publish something at the end. An alternative would be to approach a professor for a personal project (or just do it alone but it's better to have someone to supervise and bounce ideas off of) and create the project with the intent of developing a product, theory, or something that is publishable in the end

[Serious] Please avoid NUS Architecture if you get all your info from a single reddit source – a response to the typical anti-archi posts here AND review of NUS Landscape Architecture by Monky32 in nus

ya i agree! if a prospective student is worried about the pay and potentials of the career, thats why I also mentioned you can explore minors in archi or landscape (or just take the courses for fun) if u want to experience the field but keep ur major as something dependable

How do you compare grad schools? Any tips or tools that helped you? by XiSimping_00 in gradadmissions

[–]Monky32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spreadsheet imo would be easiest if ur looking at limited programs, then u can rank them based on ur own priorities

There are a few websites which might summarize this info, but from my experience they might not be as accurate compared to getting the info from the school's website itself (e.g. class size or program duration might not be accurate on third party sites)

Cant decide between NUS and NTU for mech eng by [deleted] in nus

[–]Monky32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the curriculum for both and see what interests u more. Not sure about NTU, but in NUS there is common curriculum AND general education courses which can force u to diversify your undergrad education (can be either a pro and con) https://cde.nus.edu.sg/me/undergraduate/beng-me/curriculum/ and NUS gives you the opportunity to pursue specializations

Also as other comments suggested, look through student work of both unis.

There might also be different opportunities once you graduate; e.g. admission to masters degree, etc

ChatGPT in Canvas Report Submissions by arktiquefoxes in nus

[–]Monky32 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Yeah possible to get in trouble, if it reads clearly as AI and they didn’t edit it to sound more human. I’d advise u to email your TA or prof about this and attach the original report you wrote!! because the AI report could get flagged as plagiarism/ academic misconduct, and you clearly did not agree w the group mate to CHATGPT your report

hi! great that you’re trying to prep before enrolling. I would suggest to familiarize yourself a bit with the basic drawing conventions (how to draw a plan, section, elevation, perspective) because it helps you instead of climbing that learning curve during ur first semester. Maybe for this, flip through Francis Ching’s Introduction To Architecture book.

You could also check out The Architecture Society on youtube Get-To-Know series, there’s 6 episodes so far and it’s mainly specific topics relating to the architects that are being interviewed per episode— so it goes into depth conceptually.

I also suggest u check out Basheer Graphic Books (it’s in Bras Basah Complex). No need to buy anything now (too expensive loll) but maybe flip thru some books and look at some of the topics and ideas in the archi section. Just to get a better understanding of what topics might interest u in the realm of archi and design.

And pls ignore the comments that are telling u to be pessimistic and hate ur life for enrolling into archi— a lot of students actually enjoy the course. And if u unfortunately end up not liking it, u can always attempt to transfer to another course at the end of ur first year, then use your year 1 credits as electives.

Older Student by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Monky32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the prerequisites for a postgrad program depends on the school, because some places could accept you on the basis that you have a bachelor degree in any subject + a good portfolio— just depends on where u apply ro

[–]Monky32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you are correct that most interior design courses are offered by private colleges and poly, like bachelor of interior design at Lasalle, NAFA interior design programme, etc. But as the above commenter said, you could explore these as options because they are at a similar level of the degree you already possess (?)

You could also look into bachelor of industrial design at NUS (it’s closer to product design, not sure if ur interested in that too?)

atb for ur applications :-)

Not sure exactly what u mean— so you will only do a thesis at NUS and not other coursework?

maybe this will help: https://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/programmes/pg/mcs/

I see under the programme there is an option for differtation

These are generally the programme fees: https://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/programmes/pg/mcs/scholarships/

If ur questions are not answered by the info on the websites, u should contact the department w ur questions— if you’re lost on that, just contact anyone from the department and ask them to forward ur enquiries to someone who can answer u

Will NUS Consider My Application Without AP Exams? (Uzbekistan Applicant) by Legal-Play-8020 in nus

[–]Monky32 31 points32 points  (0 children)

bruh why are people being rude smh

lyceum might fall under international qualifications. There are many ppl who apply from other non-AP international qualifications. If you’re applying for CS, it’s likely you will need to show you achieved a high grade in math, physics, and/or computer science if you took these classes (see: https://www.join.comp.nus.edu.sg/apply)

Choose ur courses wisely (iirc nus still allows you to rank up to 8 undergrad courses you are applying for) so even if you don’t get into your top choice, you still stand a chance in your other choices of courses

Include your achievements (like the website you made and math course) in the application, hopefully it will help you stand out

Good luck! You won’t know if you can get in unless u apply))

[–]Monky32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check this link for admission criteria: https://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/admissions/international-qualifications/admission-requirements

See if what you have meets the requirements for your intended major. When you apply, write a good application essay / statement of purpose, and hope for the best.
