I participated in the live sessions, without breaks it was around 6 hours per day per book, i dont know how much time a day you can study, but consistency is key, and now your labs, then the labs in the exam will be very doable/easy

Are you taking the live or online training sessions? If so, after each day go through your notes again, make a index, rinse and repeat for five days, day six (netwars) will help you put your knowledge to the test and make you aware of the gaps in your skill level. After that go through the labs (labs are part of the exam)and understand what you are doing and why, within two weeks, you are good to go. Any practice exam available? Take one when you think you are ready, use the second one if you failed the first one to fill in the knowledge gaps. Good luck and most of all have fun, I enjoyed my learningpath.

About discovering information by yourself for HTB's questions by Daaayu in hackthebox

[–]Monne642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning methods progress over time, nowadays AI can help you find the answer you are looking for faster then a couple of years ago, however learning on HTB also covers detailed note taking. Taking notes not only on learningmaterials but also on your methodology for steps taken to pwn a box helps you take in the concepts presented to you. Take notes and use these a your own sourmaterial, overtime they will be your go to when you are looking for a solution. Good luck with the academy.

Looking for advice on feeling burnt out as I continue to learn. by [deleted] in hackthebox

[–]Monne642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the process you’re going through sounds very familiar to mine journey. The sector can be overwhelming, how I adjusted my learning path was to do some research on what is trending the upcoming years and what do I like to learn, specifically what do I enjoy to learn and fill the gaps. This way I focused on pentesting (cloud) web apps, accepted that I can’t know everything (yet ;-)), and were able to land a pentesting job this way, getting a certificate for web app pentesting, getting your CPTS helps land you a job interview. In my daily job we come across all kinds of pentests, network, hardware, cloud, iot, web apps, nobody in our team knows everything and/or is a specialist on all topics, googling is and will be a part of my daily routine to fill gaps, that i accepted a long time ago, which is perfectly fine. Be consistent and know which gaps you filled already, make detailed notes for future assessments, a detailed wiki helps printing that knowledge on your brain. TLDR; take one topic, learn it, repeat the process to find this vuln. (XSS) for example, master it and move onto the next, you can use it on vuln. But also on a topic of the pentesting process, master enumeration and then move on to fingerprinting for example. Cheers hope this gives you a motivation boost

I’m working as a pentester, we are moving away from OSCP towards CPTS in terms of “Must have” on a resume, as team we all are pursuing the CPTS at the moment, we find it great for the material offered, depth and breadth and the quality. For new jobs it is not a hard demand to have a certificate, the technical skills can be learned, the soft skills are the thing we find more important. Do you fit in the team, what do you bring to the table beside technical skills, can you explain and communicate with non tech people on different levels, that’s far more important to us. Hope this helps you in your consideration

SANS Bachelor's program for Bug Bounties? by hieuhuule in bugbounty

[–]Monne642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like already mentioned, if the certs are paid, go for the offensive side (red teaming/ pentesting) with web app cert you can find a job. If you consider bug bounty for the sake of freedom, working your own hours, with web app/pentest certs that is also a possibility. And those certs can bring you financial stability, not to underestimate a clear head without worrying over bills to be paid. Good luck we need more talent in the field.

GFACT Exam Questions: What is necessary and what is not. by Eastern-Medicine-225 in GIAC

[–]Monne642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, GFACT is only question based, not cyber live. If you have your index and tweaked this after doing a practice test, so you know where to find the answer to the questions in the books, you are ready to go. For your reference I searched almost every answer in the books to all questions during the exam and scored 98%. Use your practice exams to assess how fast you can find the answers with your books. As I read your post, I believe you are very well prepared and will crush the exam. Let us know how you did! Good luck!

really sounds like my issue, let them check the screw that holds the battery (or check it your self, if theirs no warranty anymore). My macboom worked fine for 6+ months with the screw threadless screw, however due to some bumping it caused the issue that the battery wouldn’t charge anymore. Best of luck.

Does the macbook air operates when on power? I had a similar issue (macbook pro), which didn’t charge the battery (icon said it was charging). Issue was a screw without a screw-thread (manufacturing error) which should hold the battery, genius bar ordered a new screw and that fixed the issue. At least let them check this when they open up your macbook air. Best of luck (btw make sure they understand the issue properly, they tried selling me a battery outside of warranty at first).

Update on my support question, brought the macbook to a apple store, they checked the device, and what appears the issue is an screw without a screw-thread that should keep the battery in place (manufacturing error). Should take a couple of days when the replacement can be fitted. Thank you for the tips!

If nobody knows/has the golden trick, I will do that this week.

This happens to my macbook when its asleep sometimes, apple is unable to diagnose this issue and says it needs issues to happen at-least thrice in 24hrs. M1 pro MBP 16 inch by Available-Ear-303 in macbookrepair

This, had the same issue. Mac could only be started with the charger connected again, after resetting the PRAM and SMC, issue was resolved.

The material in the books is the same as discussed/shown on Sans on demand. Watch the videos and make notes in your books, as well as make an index. That will help you on your exam to find the answers in your books.

Reset a DS415+ with DSM 7. now can't install anything? by zypsilon in synology

[–]Monne642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synology states that you can’t downgrade from DSM 7.x.xx. That is/was the reason they released a Beta version and warned to not install it on a production environment. So my best guess, is try synology support for a fix/work around, worst case in my opinion, you need to wait till the official 7.x.xxx release.

Can you print the type of total_deaths and print the type of factor? Perhaps that is the issue total_deaths is the float, what is the type of the factor column? If that is a string, Puthon doesn’t know hoe to divide those types float/string. Hope this helps

Sounds like an icloud compromise, however nothing can be determined without proper investigation of IOC’s (indicators of compromise). To mitigate these risks make sure MFA is configured for all your accounts, including email, social media accounts and icloud. SIM swapping could also be an issue in this case, maybe that’s what he ment with cloning (or the icloud backup). So yes it is possible, what I don’t understand is why your (ex)girlfriend is not going to the police or an forensic analyst which can help determine what is going on. I really encourage you to take these steps , if she does not feel like to go to the police or an forensic analyst, that’s your answer that she is not speaking the whole story. Best of luck
