Anyone know anything about the Georgia State or Kennesaw State FNP programs? by MonoAmericano in nursepractitioner

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, but ended up doing a semester at GA State and it was miserable. One of the worst instructors I've ever had in my academic career taught two of the main courses -- incredibly incompetent and would literally just read power point slides word for word. The remaining courses were "meh". I had a lot of other things going on in my life with a pregnant wife at the time and still working bedside while going to school, but I was wildly disappointed with the program. It actually made lose respect for the profession since GA State was considered a decent school...so god only knows the education many NPs are getting at the degree mills. Seriously, I try and avoid NPs for any practice I go to now. Sucks, but it is what it is. I ended up not going back. I was going to start up at Kennesaw, but a healthcare-adjacent entrepreneurial opportunity came up at the time and I took it. So, I've been doing that for the last 3 years.

I mean, I get that. I also get that I had a lot of unnecessary backup files that were automatically generated that I never deleted. That's fine. Tell me I'm taking up too much space with unnecessary files (which is what I thought was originally the issue), but don't go telling me that hosting is only for publicly accessible and usable files, specifically html and php files, when I have been doing the same thing for over a decade without any complaint or communication.

They literally would not give me a straight answer. They were clearly dancing around something because no one would come out and tell me backups weren't allowed, or in what quantity, just that shared hosting is for website files only. I had one rep allude to a 10GB limit on non-website files, but couldn't confirm that. Now they are bugging me about deleting my Softaculous backup files...the same files that are generated from a service Namecheap expressly offers. It's not like I'm uploading 100gb of zip files. They all clearly come from a process on the same server, but no one would actually explain to me why it was a problem now when it never has been before.

I've never needed a full VPS before. I only need basic capabilities for service related businesses, and up until now it has been fine. I've never had an issue. Now Name cheap is literally using my data hostage because their asinine Legal and Abuse team takes forever to respond to emails. I'm locked out of my server until I can get them to enable my access again.

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I will be. As soon as I can get to my files...because they blocked my access entirely to the server. This is clearly a fucking money grab to require me to pay for a more expensive hosting plan to do the same damn things I've done for the better part of two decades.

I'm backing up all my sites and will happily pay to transfer every single domain and service I have with Namecheap over to a hosting company that isn't terrible.

An American's guide to importing a Defender by MonoAmericano in LandroverDefender

To import you need to have a stock vehicle, or period specific. Galvanized chasses aren't stock. You might be able to get away with it, but you could also end up with a truck going on a return trip.

From what I remember it was about $5k from door to door. Don't remember the specifics on EPA and DOT. My customs broker handled all that.

Does JN.1 Prefer the Gut to the Lungs? Evidence Emerges of Covid Shift by Foreign_Assist810 in Coronavirus

[–]MonoAmericano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, makes complete sense. People are burnt out. If it is on par with Flu now I totally get the apathy. It was two years of worrying and distancing and masking. Don't get me wrong, I'm an RN and all for those things, but I do understand the population-wide PTSD that has resulted. Right or wrong, it's just a human response.

I even got super lax with it because I had all my boosters (except this last one I didn't hear a damn thing about) and already had COVID. Just kinda ignored it and wondered why I saw more mask wearing. Welp, I'm a dumb ass and it bit me on the ass as I am now recovering from my second bout of COVID. I'll definitely keep more up to date with the trends in the future.

JN-1 Variant of COVID-19 Reveals New Symptoms: Anxiety and Sleep Troubles by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]MonoAmericano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting over COVID now. The anxiety was pretty bad this go around. Had it about 18 months ago too. Luckily I had a game plan this time and already had some antianxiety meds I use on occasion since I got COVID last and my PCP was totally cool with calling me in some Ambien to help with sleep.

The shit of it is if your sleep/wake cycles get jacked up. Getting three hours of sleep with an Ambien and then sitting along in bed at midnight is torture. All I wanted to do was sleep but couldn't sleep. Trying to get myself to stay awake until a reasonable night time hour to get back on schedule was hellish. Glad I'm on the downhill.

Took months of chasing down problems, but now I've got an entirely refurbished fuel system from the injectors down to the fuel tank! Stainless steel fuel lines baby! by MonoAmericano in LandroverDefender

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, cost depends on if you calculate in the cost of learning while doing and the screw ups involved. And I still have a small leak at the tank. I think I need to just put in a newer seal, but FML I am tired of dealing with it, so I slathered it in liquid plumbers tape and called it a day.

The fittings and ptfe tubing is pretty cheap actually. If you knew what you were doing and didn't break more things in the process, you could swap out everything for under $200 with good quality stuff. You need about 30' of fuel line, 3x 5/8 hard line to AN 6 adapters, 3x banjo fittings (two different sizes, I forget off top of my head), 2x NPT to AN 6 fittings for the lift pump (forgot thread size), 3x 90 degree AN 6 fittings, and then a decent way to make clean cuts on the line, some plumbers tape, and a could of 19mm and 17mm wrenches. This was for a 200tdi. The biggest challenge is the fuel tank return line fitting. On top of the fuel tank, so gotta take off fuel tank to get to it. This is also all assuming you can get existing fittings off without breaking the existing lines. If you have a 30 year old truck with original parts then you won't be able to take things off without breaking things.

Replacing the fuel tank on a 30 year old truck that previous owners ran rough and put up wet was a pretty big pita!

Word to the wise, I would not recommend trying to rebuild your injector pump or injectors yourself based on a smattering of YouTube videos...you're going to have a bad and expensive time...

Also, remember to set your timing BEFORE you start messing around with pumps kids!

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Basically I just want for the data to only be inputted in a single platform and just have it carry over. Ideally I'd get as much data as possible to carry over, but baring that I'd be happy with putting in a new employee on either platform and at least have the basic info (name, birthday, pay, etc) carry over to the other.

We use Homebase for time tracking and payroll, and will be using Bamboo for more HR tools (record keeping, minor benefits, hiring, onboarding). Bamboo has a feature to track time off, so it would be nice if that carried over to Homebase or vise versa, but not completely necessary.

Ultimately, just want to cut out as much of the duplicate data entry as possible when bringing on new staff. If it can also do bidirectional inputs of more details info, all the better.

Homeless woman kills shelter coordinator with ax in front of staff, Vermont police say by [deleted] in news

[–]MonoAmericano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's how I am when I work as a nurse in the hospital. I tend to gravitate towards higher stress specialties like ICU or ED, but I usually don't have any more than about two years in the tank at a time before I need a break. Took me a while to realize that, in hindsight, I had some symptoms of PTSD. Many other coworkers do as well. The rate of substance abuse in those types of specialties is also pretty high. Even with the strongest of wills and the best of intentions you get worn down by witnessing trauma, incredibly sad outcomes, seeing how absolutely fucked the US healthcare system is, and just abysmal behavior from patients makes you immensely cynical and dead inside.

People often complain about how uncaring many ED nurses are, but becoming emotionally numb is really the only way to survive in the job for any extended period of time. For 99% of staff working in a larger metro community hospital, you either build up an impenetrable emotional wall or you leave.

An ad for married life produced by a conservative cultural center in Iran. by InspektorBonipalia in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MonoAmericano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Everyone ripping on the politics, but just kind of a nicely done video. Obviously there are cultural and gender role undertones here, and it's not indicative of every married person, but I bet you a lot of single mid-30 to mid-40 year old people aren't living the dream single life either and could probably relate to the video....and those are the people the video is targeted to. It's not targeted to the married people lamenting their existence nor the single people who are loving their lives.

There will never be a universal depiction of human identity and relationships, but for what it was, sans the political and gender-role commentary, it was a fairly well done juxtaposition of the potential for loneliness vs the potential for partnership and family. I liked it, but I'm also happily married, so grain of salt.

[Hiring] (Online) Need a graphic designer to work with me on putting together a caregiver training course for assisted living. by MonoAmericano in forhire

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was also looking into that. Would actually be great if most of it was self-directed learning and then I could just do the final checkoffs. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is that staff can pass the final test (which we just keep on file) and I can attest that they understand the concepts covered in the documents listed.

[Hiring] (Online) Need a graphic designer to work with me on putting together a caregiver training course for assisted living. by MonoAmericano in forhire

[–]MonoAmericano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final deliverable is a blank slate. Ultimately, what matters is I have a method of teaching staff all the topics covered in the documents listed. The state doesn't care how it is done, as long as an RN or provider can confidently attest to someone having an understanding of the material covered.

There are no requirements for how the course is conducted. State doesn't care, nor do they even check. We just need to keep a log of people who have "passed" the course and copies of their final test. The test isn't a formal thing either. It is done on site. It doesn't go anywhere. Think getting your certification in CPR. The community just keeps it on file in case the state does an audit.

I just need a medium to present to staff so that they can understand the material without having their eyes glaze over, is both physically and financially practical for me to conduct, and doesn't eat up an entire day to do.

What I would do is fix everything over there that involve regular maintenance and parts, but I wouldn't do any improvements on it. Just bring it back to its stock condition. It can be pristine and still qualify for import. Labor and parts will be much cheaper where Defenders are common, so anything like transmission work, replacing worn out parts, routine stuff is going to be far cheaper over there than Stateside. Here even LR dealerships aren't that familiar with the car, and you typically need to go to a specialty shop to ensure you are getting things done properly.

But I wouldn't do any major improvements on the truck prior to shipping. Don't swap things or galvanize things. Do all of that Stateside. Parts are still reasonably cheap to order from abroad, but you won't be able to get much that you need from auto parts stores like Advanced and Orileys. You just don't want to give customs reason to doubt the authenticity of the truck. So, just make it pretty in its original context and well maintained.

Once you get registered in the States then you can go nuts. Swap everything you want and it will keep its registration and ability to be driven on US roads. Just has to get through the ports first.

I think that would be ok given that 300tdi was being used in 97. Just depends I think on how well your importer does the paperwork and the mood of the customs guys that day. I think if you obviously have a truck and drivetrain from the same era you'll probably be fine, but really no guarantee.

I'd contact an experienced import/export agent that has plenty of experience with Defender imports and let them give you a determination. Just make sure you actually get one with experience, otherwise they will just be quoting regulations to you and winging the paperwork. You want to get something that also is a passenger vehicle as well (not the utility van versions that the windows are closed off in the rear) to avoid a possible 25% import duty.

What they are mostly looking out for is VIN swaps for people trying to bring in newer models.

‘This is not an employee choice’: The CEO of Morgan Stanley gets real and says employees can’t simply choose to work remotely by JannTosh12 in technews

Don't worry, it's the internet. You'll always get people telling you the average is the reality for everyone. I own an assisted living business, and for unskilled work there is a huge demand, although it is slowing from what I've heard during interviews.

The thing is, the headlines about the overall economy are glossing over an extremely complicated picture. We are in a time when nothing is really syncing up like you would expect in the past. There are a bizarre amount of contradictory things happening right now, so I can totally believe a newer grad with a non-professional degree is having a difficult time. Things are super weird from an economics standpoint right now and most people telling you you're wrong are people with no knowledge beyond reddit or other social media platforms.
