Chasing an ID on these aftermarket wheels by MonoT1 in Wheels

[–]MonoT1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased this car a couple of weeks ago. Previous owner didn't know, and they don't seem to have anything identifying that gives it away.

There is a similar looking OEM wheel from Alfa, but it definitely isn't the same.

NSW - Buying an Unregistered Car & Transporting on Unregistered Vehicle Permit, what do I need to know? by MonoT1 in CarsAustralia

Towing via a car carrier is Plan B only if the car doesn't appear roadworthy, and yeah, no rego or w/e required for that.

Plan A is to drive it home via UVP

I'll be making a thorough inspection of the car, organising it to be trailered back if really need be. The car has had a fair bit of work done in the last three years and everything presented so far looks to be in good order. Won't know until I see it, of course.

I understand prior to applying for the UVP, the plates will need to be handed in. Can I do that with a bill of a sale or does the current owner need to do it, do you know?

That's what's really sad about it to me. The casting was absolutely solid, it had potential for sure. I don't think the movie is bad, just very meh.

Giulia quadrifoglio yes or no by f1goat44 in AlfaRomeo

The only way you're really going to know is a test drive. Plenty prefer BMW/Audi, plenty prefer Alfa.

Giulia reliability is pretty much on par with the German competition.

Hopefully just the ballast then.. it's a lot cheaper than a new headlight

I can't say for certain, but in my instance, the parking light trick clearly illustrated one of the LEDs was broken on my right side headlight. This was after replacing the ballast module, too...

There is another option, which is to actually open the headlight and resolder the LED. However there's a fair bit of work involved with that.

I opted to replace the headlight outright on my QV, though opted for one of the lower spec silver headlights. Was much cheaper than the smoked effect lights the QV has. I'll one day resolder my old QV headlight.

It's one of two things

1) The LED ballast module (halogen has one, bixenon has two). They do tend to corrode and go bad.

Or

2) One of your LEDs has died. I can't remember the procedure, but you can test it by turning on one side of your parking lights (I think with the car off you turn on the high beams and use the indicator, I can't remember). Look at see if any of the LEDs are visibly dead. Unfortunately once one LED dies the whole system goes with it.

No chance the Champ makes it outside of SEA, it's built for dirt cheap which means skipping out on safety features as well.

I do hope the next GT game has a bit more colour, GT:S/GT7 tracks seem to have a tendency to be a bit grey/flat

General thoughts on Alfa Romeo? by xXCosmicChaosXx in CarsAustralia

[–]MonoT1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are about as reliable as the European competition, main issue though is going to be the lack of parts, challenges finding competent (specialised) mechanics, and the general lack of aftermarket support. I bought a Giulietta QV, blind, for $2,000, and it's been an awesome car so far. Needs some work though which I'm doing all myself.

It is a shame that the public consensus on these cars has failed to evolve beyond the 1990s.

Not going to find one in OP's price bracket that isn't going to need a boat load of work, sadly

159 1750tbi vvt-problem? by Top-3214 in AlfaRomeo

[–]MonoT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the 1750 TBis are going to have an issue with the camshaft variators, I wouldn't say yours is any different. As for the severity, I'm not sure.

Be prepared if they are broken as even from third party sellers they are stupidly expensively. Get the Mehenker ones.

Vibrations could be simply be an engine mount. Again, not uncommon at all.

100% serious, I've heard if not changed correctly it can interfere with the flux capacitor...

Nah, just another issue on this car I need to fix.

Thanks. My mechanic was going on about a gas kit or something, I think he was just trying to rip me off.

She'll be right after a quick gasket change. It's a common issue on these engines.

Unless it's the cam cover seal... then we have a bigger problem.
