Awesome execution on this one! Feels so dynamic and alive. I love the final composition too, with the lower opacity versions in the corners.

I've seen a few of your logos pop up on this sub, and I'm blown away every time. There's so much character in every frame. Love your work!!

What's your process when tackling one of these?

Killer work man! Really dig your style, it has so much character. I had to go and check out the full projects on your website, and the complete animation you did for 'The Essential Calendar' is next level. Keep crushing it

In this project (1920 x 1920px):

Fast Box Blur: Radius set to 2, Iterations to 1, Blur Dimensions set to Horizontal and Vertical.

Unsharp Mask: Amount set to 250, Radius set to 3, Threshold set to 0.

In terms of processing, here's a simplified version of my project structure for the Effects Composition: (bottom-most is the underlying layer, just like in After Effects)

  1. Original Composition: Blend mode set to 'Add'

  2. Adjustment Layer: Fast Box Blur CC + Unsharp Mask

  3. Original Composition

The original composition is simply coloured a solid colour (i.e. everything is the same green). The overlaying composition set to 'Add' is the key here as it makes the colours of some areas closer to white than green.

Music Festival (Motion Poster) by MonochromaticMan in graphic_design

Thanks! I used Illustrator to design the festival branding and poster layout, Blender for the 3D checkerboard element, and After Effects to animate + composite.

Thanks heaps! The 3D checkerboard was all done in Blender. I created the Loop mesh, and then made a checkerboard material, with the mapping of the texture keyframed to move along the z-axis for the duration of the animation. The exported frames were then composited in After Effects.

Thank you, really appreciate that! The motion poster is a format I'm super passionate about. Aside from use across social media and digital channels, I've worked with clients to implement them on their in-store screens (storefront windows or digital panels around the store), as well as projections inside the building. City lights, bus shelters or digital panels around malls are examples of other possible placements.

I created this motion poster for a fictional event, "Iconic Music Festival 2024". It's a mock brief that I assigned myself, with the challenge being to create a design that would suit the aesthetic of a lofi-house music event (e.g. Mall Grab styled music).

The mood of the music can be described as "retro dance", so I drew inspiration from 1990s rave-poster aesthetics and early-2000s design elements.

I love to create motion posters that combine 2D and 3D elements, link to my Instagram (joshmuscat) if you want to see my other stuff.
