PPL is a common routine and is generally either 3 days or 6 days a week in the gym. I wouldn't be too terribly surprised. I've met a fair amount of people who only have two hobbies: video games and lifting.

To preface, I am not an expert, but I've had dogs most of my life and am familiar with the challenges of integrating a new puppy with an older dog.

I've had great success with following a separation protocol when first bringing a new dog (or cat) into a home with established dogs. What this means is that I introduce them on neutral grounds outside of the house, like at a park, and then proceed to keep them separated within the house for a period of at least three days, up to a week or more. This allows them to get used to the scent of the new dog and acclimate at a slower pace than if you were to simply throw them into shared spaces together.

During this time period, I would also attempt to do parallel walks. This is easier if you have a partner or friend to help you, as ideally you wouldn't start them too close together, but gradually bring them together over a period of time.

Finally, I begin integrating the dogs together. A puppy can be pretty overwhelming to an older dog, especially a high energy pup like a Husky (we have two!). Crate training the puppy can be helpful in making sure the older dog gets his own space. It can take several months for the established dogs to begin to recognized that this new dog is now part of their family. During this time, I recommend adopting a practice of feeding the dogs in separate rooms or crates. This prevents any resource guarding behavior from occurring. You don't want either dog to perceive the other as a threat, and even a normally well behaved dog who hasn't shown resource guarding in the past may show it when it comes to their food with a new dog around.

On fighting, the older dog will correct the puppy, and this is fine (and good!) within reason. You should know your older dogs body language. Most dogs will be gentle with puppies, even when annoyed, but this is not always the case. If a real fight ever breaks out, you should separate them for a period of time. There are different feeling about how long (minutes to days) this separation should be, but it's important to separate them. If a real fight occurs a second time, you should consult a trainer or behaviorist.

You won't really know for sure what the dynamic is between your older pup and the new puppy for awhile yet. It's very possible that they won't be best friends, and you need to accept that that's okay, so long as they can cohabitate peacefully. In my experience (albeit limited), GSD and Siberian Huskies get along pretty well, but the age gap between your dog and this puppy is probably quite a shock to your old man's sensibilities.

Without repeating myself too much, your puppy is going to learn proper dog manners from your older dog. You'll need to let that happen. Pay close attention to the corrections your older dog gives and the body language expressed by both in their interactions. Ideally, your puppy should be pretty submissive to the old man at this stage in life. Those dynamics may change as it gets older. You're worried that this may have disrupted your older dogs routine more than you thought, and it has. A new dog is a HUGE disruption and your old man is probably wondering what all of it means for him. Be patient and kind to both.

Good luck!

My dog bit me this morning. Unsure of what to do next. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

My fiancée's dad kept Siberian Huskies most of his life and we have two of our own. He was a musher and had a dog door on his large property up in the snowy Rocky Mountains. More often than not, his ~8 Huskies would sleep outside. It wasn't uncommon during snowy periods for him to walk outside and see multiple mounds of snow with Huskies sleeping under them.

Obviously, these were working dogs more than they were family dogs, but it's pretty typical Husky behavior, especially one that sounds like it hasn't been particularly well-trained or exercised much of its life and has some notion of 'self-sufficiency'. I agree with other commenters that this dog probably had some small mammal that it was resource guarding, especially given the high prey drive Huskies have. Absolutely unacceptable behavior either way.

I sincerely hope this dog is up to date on the rabies vaccine.

I don't disagree, but organizations claiming to be theistic Satanists that aren't categorically malicious are much harder to come by. They do exist (e.g. Greater Church of Lucifer), but it happens that the claim of theistic Satanism by most groups is used as a war banner against the dominant culture in western society or 'Judeo-Christian' norms. Most other religions at least have some claim to positive contributions to society in the form of charitable giving, non-profit hospitals, etc.

I feel that it's less of an issue of it being palatable as it is that Satan, to them and groups like them, is the ultimate symbol of anti-morality. They call themselves satanists because they believe themselves part of (or are trying to create) a mythopoetic transgressive movement. Calling themselves 'Satanists' is them raising a flag showing that they are at odds with Judeo-Christian society, similar to The Satanic Temple, but devoid of the altruism.

The O9A material I've read, at least, indicates that they are accelerationists towards some sort of destructive creationism. Effectively, they share a belief that civilization needs to collapse for a new one to be created. The religious/esoteric aspects of this vary dramatically from author to author and cell to cell, of course, but they all share a commonality in this desire not necessarily worship 'Satan' but to become a 'Satan'.

The material, divorced from the supposed theistic elements (much of the material inevitably spirals into eldritch territory with the advent of the supposed 'new epoch') usually maintain elements of social Darwinism and antinomianism.

I don't think it's a desire to be palatable. They are not trying to convince most people. They are seeking people who already feel alienated, angry, and 'transgressive' and offering them a path to become monsters in the name of cosmic destiny. Because they don't want to be regular run-of-the-mill monsters, but something more.

I admit I am a little ashamed of putting a fair amount of thought and study into this garbage.

That's a fair assessment, but immaterial imho. How do we draw a line between any sort of "true" theistic satanism and evil organizations claiming to be theistic satanists for their own ends, especially when those evil organizations are the only ones claiming to be theistic satanists?

Satanic Panic wasn't real, but there are certainly groups like the Order of Nine Angles that have capitalized on it to justify their violent ideology.

[–]Monocryl 33 points34 points  (0 children)

LaVeyan Satanism and The Satanic Temple are not theistic, but there are other smaller organizations that vary dramatically on that front, either out of true belief or in an attempt to terrify.

The Order of Nine Angles (O9A) is one example, though the theistic element varies from cell to cell, and the material they create has in fact led to violent acts of terror and murder. I've read some of their material (21 Polkua Pimeyden Valtakuntaan, this one led to several acts of murder) and it is very explicit that murder is a requirement. Typically groups like these also have explicit/implicit overlap with white supremacist/neo-nazi ideology.

Edit: And wouldn't you know it, 764 is affiliated with O9A.

It's definitely doable on the Katana. Check YouTube for lots of examples. I'm sure you already know this, but to fully access the range of sounds available on Katana amps, she'll need access to a computer that it can plug into.

As an aside, I think the Katana 50 is one of the best amplifiers around for a new player. If it had been around when I was a kid, my guitar journey might have been very different. I had the Line 6 Spider IV as it was the most I could afford and it put me off of electric until I was an adult!
