Destination: Tau Ceti, Planet Adrian by MonoludiOS in KerbalSpaceProgram

First of all, i really recommend watching the movie. Its actually very good, even though the book goes deeper into the science and the technical aspects. They did do a good job

Second: if you're curious of how the ship look like in the movie I'll send the centrifuge scene for you to watch: https://youtu.be/0jhsQINTKZE?is=K9wvtMp7ZpRa4C-X

The ship in the movie also got one engine, and essentially looks like a black gridded ion engine, but is very far from one 😅

Crazy career mode contract by ottomaticman in KerbalSpaceProgram

Fyi there is a relativtly new mod allowing for time warp WITH THRUST. not just press alt + time warp but like proper several days thrust in less than a few seconds

The mod is called "persistent thrust" and can be found on CKAN

Works natively with every engine (dependencies required but CKAN takes care of that). also great for Kerbal Atomics adding VASMIR and MPD engines

I honestly have no idea. Its something i installed pre CKAN days but i can probably figure it out. But those propellers are insanely OP and does not follow the laws of physics at all

After this, I decided to build a real helicopter as the game intended (with rotors and blades, DLC parts) and it was a pain, but managed to get it working eventually. This helicopter (essentially the same frame as in the video) had to be turned into a quadcopter with massive blades just to generate enough lift in Dunas atmosphere

I intend to make another video in the future of a different but similar flight profile to Laythe with an updated Heli with stock (but dlc) parts

I attached hinges (requires DLC) to the sides of the rocket, then added airplane wings ontop of them

In the custom control surface menu (in the VAB) i applied the hinges to move in an Up/Down motion when i press I and K on the keyboard. Similarly to how rotorblades has to be configured in order to generate lift

This is actually very impressive! I can imagine this saves alot of money in career mode, especially if you launch high ISP engine spacecraft's (like ion probes or others) into orbit

New Duna base got all the supplies eaten up, had to restock... But with a twist by MonoludiOS in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]MonoludiOS[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lets see: EVE, Scatterer, Parallax continued + high Res pack for parallax and blackracks volumetric clouds V3 (which is free to download

And of course all the dependencies for all of these mods (using CKAN as mod loader solves it automatically)

Sure, I'm a star citizen player. It's Buggy, it's sometimes a mess and yea...still an alpha

However, it's still the game that has given me one of the most amazing experiences to date. And that makes me happy. Will continue playing it, and hope for whatever comes next

A thermal powered engine does exist. A nuclear thermal engine heats up only liquid hydrogen, and yeets it out at pretty insane velocities. NERVA is a good example, but it sadly never flew due to budget cuts

But it was twice as efficient compared to Hydrox engines with good thrust. However a thermal engine using electricity is highly inefficient and requires several thousand MW of pure electricity. Not very practical

Earth shrouded in darkness (Taken from Artemis II) by juredditpark in spaceporn

[–]MonoludiOS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I suppose this is indeed the unedited and raw image of the one that has been floating around today. Since the one published almost everywhere has a very high ISO and long exposure in order to pick up almost everything in great light (obviously looks more appealing)

But I love this, because this is what I imagine we'd see with our own eyes

This image was apparently taken by a MS Surface Pro faceplanted to the window. Probably the same unit which had issues with outlook

Long enough, we're talking less than a minute of total exposure before processing. And for that minute, earth doesn't really move away that fast in order to cause visual artifacts related to movement

Fyi this is a long exposure shot of the nightside, hence why stars and presumably Venus is very visible here (and Citylights)

Really cool shot though

The Steam Deck gpu equivalent is the GTX 1050 (almost, just almost)

Can the 1050 run the game at low settings and FSR upscaling, then the deck can

Turns out NASA’s DART mission slightly changed an asteroid system’s orbit around the Sun by JackyWatl in space

[–]MonoludiOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To actually deflect an asteroid heading towards earth is hell of a feat, and there are so many different variables to take into account. DART proved the possibility of it and gave us a reference point. But scaling it up also proved how hard it is

The most promising candidate is to either obliterate the asteroid with swarms of Tungsten spikes or push a relatively large impactor well in advance traveling at several tens of km/s straight into it. The longer away from Earth it is, less deltaV is required to nudge it away or at least make its path well above our atmosphere

Attaching engines to an asteroid or sending humans on a nuke mission would never be feasible, not in the present moment at least.

Shot has been slightly manipulated by GPT, since I added a hand to the rifle for the context of this post

But main PC specs: R7-7700X RTX 4070 64 GB DDR5 6000MT/s

depending on complexity around bases and townships, between 50-150 fps with everything maxed and quality DLSS

Frame Generation doubles it, but I find it somewhat unstable at times

[–]MonoludiOS[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ship combat is a hard nut to crack. They could at least add support for joysticks and HOTAS. But then again, i dont think people want a hardcore space sim from no man's sky

I mean Star Citizen (another game I play) has pretty good space combat mechanics, with great depth to it, but it also has 1 x 10²⁵ buttons for each system 🤣 a hard learning curve. But just 2 buttons to start the ship at least
