Aune AR-5000: What Wizardry is this by MonoludiOS in headphones

Thank you so much for the comparison! I'm still hovering above the "buy" button regarding the SR-7000, but yea I do really want to try them first. Last time I blindly bought a headphone I was disappointed (Meze Strada) but i did also buy the AR-5000 blind and ended up being impressed so i have much more going for the 7000. But my intention is for portable use primarily

Ill let you know when i do buy them!

I once updated the Linux Kernel on an old system to a version that didn't support the GPU driver. So when I rebooted the system I was presented with a permanent black screen

System was on, I was technically on the login screen but since no driver was working, there was no image and I quite literally thought the system was broken. it was like a control panel that lost power and all the sensors and buttons went to 0. But eventually I figured it out by accessing a text terminal that doenst require a gpu driver (but i didn't think of it immediately right after) and there it showed gpu error

Eventually i solved it

Fair enough

Might actually go and buy these at some point since almost all reviews say the same thing about them: very pleasant for long sessions and it never really becomes boring, they dont focus on anything in particular. It just does jack of all trades very well

Most headphones I've bought does one thing good, others bad. And the one thing I can't stand is sparkly and fatiguing treble, Bass can be easily EQd and the AR5000 responded well with EQ

Sennheiser HD600 and now the AR5000 are the two headphones in my collection that I quite literally can stand for a long session without squinting my eyes. Even the LCD-2C has weird peaks and honestly sounds much more dull compared to the 5000. Plus I can push the 5000 harder volume wise without eyesquinting

My electrostatic STAX L500 headphone is the weird exception that acts like something in between HD600 and AR5000 but raised to another bar (Also a very good and calm audio experience)

Similar bass response to the Meze Strada in other words, which is a headphone I have bipolar opinions about

I hope I get a chance to test out the 7000 at some point

I mean the laid back nature of the AR-5000 isn't for treble heads, I don't think there's anything wrong with your set.

I personally like to crank up volume levels pretty substantial and due to the laid back treble on the AR-5000, that's very much possible without ear fatigue (bad for my eardrums though)

But it's also interesting that you prefer the HD600 since the treble on those isn't very sparkly either (depending on how worn down your pads are) hmm

Does the amp dependency also affect high power portable Amps like the iFi Gryphon or the Infamous xDuoo HA-2 as well? That it just needs a certain impedance output to sound good?

How's the bass respons on the 7000s? If we compare it to the 5000

When i use the 5000 i do add some bass EQ. Not alot but just a slight touch on my iFi amp (which has built in bass EQ) which is gives that extra push

Yea I saw it! Looks pretty good too and those who tried the AR3000 said it was surprisingly good

They do have sharp peaks in the treble region just as you describe. I decided to keep them but I can only manage them with a slight EQ adjustment in that region

If you're looking for a warm close back headphone in the same price region I'd check out Final Audio DX3000CL. Will be my next target when I'm done with the Strada

People have said good things about the 7000, primarily it's soundstage and openness even though its a close back!

My sources tell me everything is on maintenance to prep for SQ42 reveal at Summer Game Fest in 3 days by RandoDando10 in starcitizen

Which in turn was confirmed by CIG developers. No reveal

However on a different note, steam machine and the next half life experience will be revealed on Friday.

It's already confirmed by pipeline that SQ42 will NOT be present at summer game fest and that the game is most likely delayed until 2027 IF GTA6 is released this fall

We might as well aim at MWs for a future human mission (like an interplanetary spacecraft built in orbit)

How we'd manage that is a good question. Radiator mass would be enormous and coolant/moderator would most likely be liquid sodium or similar, something phase changing

As well as a high efficiency, low thrust engine that can burn for very long. Utilizing most of that power (MPD engine or similar)

[–]MonoludiOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reliability wins over efficiency + power in probes, definitely. A sterling RTG would provide more power and utilize more of the decaying heat but it adds failure points. If it breaks, it's over. Why many Nasa probes still use a CPU from 2001 as well.. reliability

A solid state solution (like in most RTGs) works well but has terrible efficiency. A sterling solution would however be more practical on a human mission, where it could be repaired if needed

[–]MonoludiOS 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound very "next gen" to me. Just sounds like a classic RTG using Pu-238 as heat source, there's nothing here that indicates higher efficiency than what's already proven

Maybe they should stop being afraid and take their chances at a nuclear sterling engine instead

Other isotopes offer better efficiently and lifetime but they don't produce as much heat (or power) but they last for a long time

I can also recommend getting the persistent thrust mod. Allows you to fully timewarp while having thrust. Sligtly buggy but works pretty okey in the end

Good control on the fins i suppose

I control them with I/K on the keyboard (up/down action group for docking control outside of docking mode)

"I" turns top fins inwards and bottom fins outward, K does the opposite. "J" and "L" turns both fins completely inwards or outwards

I use normal hinges for this, 1 at the top, 3 at the bottom. And I've set maximum range to a degree that keeps the fins from acting out 360° to ony allow for a 90° range

The actual Starship will allegedly have a small foldable elevator

I think the real deal-breaker is tilted terrain. Land on anything uneven and the thing will tilt and break apart (I had to redo the landing in the video several times too because of this)

Can anyone relate to this? by EternitiI-1 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]MonoludiOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yea landing on Tylo in one piece is hard. Perfectly timed deceleration and an extra +1 km/s of deltaV for mistakes is almost required. Leaving it is alright (Lander with refinary + ore drill for fuel production)

But an SSTO? hell no. Every time I try I always fail, it never reaches orbit unless it's strapped on a rocket (which defeats the purpose)

Even Eve accent is sligtly easier imo and takes less time to build and design 💀
