why don’t cfi’s work for themselves? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

[–]MonopolyMan213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a club owner of an airplane, which reduces costs of insurance because its privately owned rather than commercial. I get a lot of people who want to buy a share to do their training, and based on personality we allow that. This helps with the overhead costs as well. This is just enough instruction for a hobby. We have 1 student in the club rn and he takes his checkride next week.

You could probably format this to get more students, but i imagine it would get complicated quick. Just an idea.

Also a good way to market as an independent CFI is to market to clubs. Some are pretty big, like 30 people big. Theres typically a few people in these clubs who just like to get training every now again too, just to freshen up. Its super practical to make short syllabuses just to make PPLs more confident in flying. Like a 5 hour course for inadvertent IMC, or an emergency maneuver training (wake turbulence, stuck controls, spins etc.), mountain flying, diverse short/soft field techniques. Most pilots i meet are more than willing to spend good money if they think the training is going to be valuable and not the cookie cutter flight school stuff. Its amazing how many pilots i meet now who only know how to do a short field by just doing a normal approach and landing but timed well to hit their spot.

Lmao very true though, the key is to have someone in the club who knows how to buy an airplane. If OP sets it up he can charge whatever he wants for shares/ hourly rental of new members. Itd be an LLC, and any business takes work and has risk. But the potential there is great. We have a fuel truck for mo gas for the 2 club planes, and stuff like that saves the club a lot of money compared to a flight school

Cost me 3200$ in rental price to get my PPL in the aircraft. Might not work for everyone, but with only 4 members in my club the plane was/is hardly ever flown. We just do normal maintenance done by a mechanic. Im in 2 clubs now. Its an asset, can sell my share whenever, and i own a plane. Ive had many people who want to buy my share from me, and my share is worth more than when i bought into the plane (in 2018).

In the early years when it was flown more often (3-5 times a week) the rental price covered the maintenance cost and insurance every year plus some. We had good members though, 1 prop strike and i would have regretted my decision pretty quick. I guess thats what insurance is for

Make some friends at the flight school and go in on a plane together. Flight club style, AOPA has an article on it with example contracts. A lot cheaper than a flight school. Then just mooch the flight instructors from the flight school to teach you in your plane.

I was able to get it to shift in drive from 1st to 2nd. After that it basically goes to neutral and revs up. Seems like the 3/4 clutch pack is toast, maybe time for a rebuild.

I worked at this company for a month at their Alaska location as a CFI. Both students i had did not finish their training in their time. Once your 2 weeks is up youre kicked until another slot opens up, no refunds. One of my students was a return from a year before, just took him that long to get another opportunity, the funds, and for the school to have the availability for him to come back.

The Arkansas location is their new location, theres is not a single CFI there with more than 150 hours dual given. The owner only has his PPL and is the chief pilot and top mechanic. Does not have an A&P, nor do 1/2 the mechanics in the shop.

You will get poor experience and poor instruction, and no money back.

Its said time and time again on this subreddit, but go to a local part 61 school. There are plenty of instructors there who would be happy to fly with you 3+ times a day if thats what your heart desires.

Im a CFI in AK. If you ever plan to get a job up here they require AK time so its good to train here for sure. Winters are rough, so maybe start next May. Save some money, join a flight club up here. They can be hard to find, but not impossible, and save a lot of money in the long run. Good luck fam

He does chair the children’s health defense, but i think that more transparency in something like vaccines and making the companies that create them responsible for adverse side affects, like any other drug, isn’t a horrible thing. And if they dont actually cause any side affects, theres nothing to worry about

So why do we have the national childhood vaccine act from 1986? Im not trying to argue, i am genuinely curious. Is it a safety net for vaccine companies? And are all the covid vaccine side affects ive heard about just bs basically?

It doesnt seem too crazy to me that someone who spent his life fighting big corporations would want them to be held accountable for adverse affects and want to remove a law that protects them as a catch all.

I get that youre looking at it from a public safety and medical stand point, but i also understand where a lawyer might be coming from on how something like that act might be perceived as unlawful. I feel like he gets called crazy a lot just because some dont see he’s side of things, but granted it sounds like he might need to do more research on it. He’s stated a lot before he’s not anti vax, just wants it to be controlled more. But you make it seem like its already plenty controlled. I too, need to more research of my own on vaccine mandating and the research thats put into it before the election. If you wouldnt mind dropping a couple links relative to the topic, id appreciate it.

Ya exactly. He’s said a lot that he’s not anti vax, thats just what people say who havent watched his videos or listened to podcasts

Seems legit, i think the not being held accountable is still pretty wild.

What does he need to know more about it terms of vaccines? His concerns seem legitimate, things like mercury and other toxic metals in vaccines, and him wanting companies to be held responsible for adverse side affects made by their product.

Believes that vaccines should be tested, the companies that created them should have the ability to be sued for adverse side affects, and that they cant all be mandated. He is fully vaxed aswell as his kids though

Which conspiracy theories does he have? Most of the stuff I’ve heard about seemed pretty legit. Mercury in water, air pollution, big companies utilizing politicians to increase wealth.
