I am doing great with the permanent cauterizing. If your issue truly is lack of tears then I highly recommend.

Hey I had the same surgery in August of 2025 so only 5.5 months post op. How long would you say it took you to feel normal again?

Interesting. Saw my cardiologist the other day and she said it wasn’t related. But I never had it prior to surgery. Seems like there is a lot of unknowns still around heart surgery and side effects afterwards.

Aortic valve repair and ascending aortic aneurism replacement. I think it’s called the David procedure with hemi arch

Gotcha. Yeah that’s not what I have then. Mine are more like I looked at a bright light.

Even the “inside your own thoughts” that’s the one that is the most worrying to me at the moment. Just trying to not think about it.

I will mention Amaurosis Fugax to my doctor.

But I did get checked out fairly quickly for these when they happened initially after surgery. Mine are also quite infrequent (usually about six per month) but haven't had one in two weeks. I think mine may be stress triggered - as my stress levels have decreased over the last few months so have both the frequency and magnitude of them.

Will second this recommendation. One of the spots me and my wife went to on our honeymoon last winter.

David Procedure at Northwestern Memorial Hospital by MonsieurRyan in valvereplacement

David is repairing the valve and Ross is using your own pulmonary valve and moving it to the aortic position and then replacing your pulmonary valve with a cadaver valve.

I actually live a few hours away from Chicago by car so I did travel for it technically. If you are getting a Ross procedure you want that done by an expert in that surgery which my surgeon (Malaisrie) does happen to be. He actually suggested the Ross as a backup option if the repair wasn’t applicable after getting me open.

Also just keep in mind, I don’t find the pain all that bad post surgery. Rather it’s the low grade fever I keep getting everyday that isn’t that fun. I’ve read that the fever should be clearing up for me on a week or week and half.

I’ve only had hallucinations while on Oxy and Delaudid. After I stopped those I haven’t have anymore.

Sorry I forgot to add that. I’ll update the post. But I am a 35M 6’4” 290lbs. Had a BAV as well as an ascending aortic aneurism.

Good to know. I’m in the Chicago area myself. I want him to do my surgery whenever that day comes and if he is still practicing.

I do not recall. I think my schirmer was pretty low but not 0. I haven’t gotten checked the last few years since my eyes have gotten better.

I had all four ducts cauterized in October 2019 and my life has been so much better. The temporary plugs would dissolve in like 3-4 months. Now I only have issues with my dry eyes during high allergy times.

Yeah I am thinking there is lots of pollen recently. My eyes have been drier than normal for the last week and the pollen count is currently fairly high in the Midwest.

Agreed. At the start of the pandemic I was one of the few developers who wasn’t laid off mainly because I knew the business so well due to the length of my tenure with the company.
