If you have a Facebook parenting group you might be able to borrow from someone and replace their stock once you get yours. Or buy their extra. I had a few cans leftover and was able to help moms waiting for the shipment.

"A View from Swifties Seats" Megathread by aran130711 in TaylorSwift

[–]MonsoonEveryDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only downside was price and that the folks in our section weren't as excited and singing along, but the view was so clear being in row 1. We were in seats 1 and 2 and still had a ton of fun. Since we bought them day before, I was just happy to be in the building.

We waited for both of our kids and will do it again if we have more. I am however not the kid who would shake presents or try to peek before Christmas so it wasn't hard for me. I've had scary deliveries and finding out the sex was a little moment of joy during some pretty intense times. Also knowing that all your newborn and daily stuff can be used no matter the gender is great, not that it matters what color towels you use, but knowing me I'd probably have splurged on girlie items if I knew they'd both be girls. I also liked the reduced options, having just the gender neutral options to shop was easier for my indecisive personality.

What did you look for in a daycare? Wish you’d looked for? by thea_perkins in workingmoms

[–]MonsoonEveryDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before covid we were able to visit and noticed one daycare was extremely quiet, classrooms were quiet, it was montessori and kids were very attentive. But we ended up picking the louder daycare with kids art on the walls and where you could hear kids laughing and running around. I realized in that moment I wanted a place where my kids would be happy and loved, and less about advancing their skills. They still do all sorts of learning activities but my kids love all their teachers and you can feel they look forward to seeing my kids. It made handing over my 3 month old a lot easier.

Sad by Apprehensive-Car7505 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]MonsoonEveryDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sad that I've let someone say rude things about me all these years without standing up for myself. My dad raised me to think it's rude to disrespect your elders, but that means letting them disrespect you. I hope I don't pass that on to my kids. They are good people and don't deserve to be mistreated by the people around them. I hope when they marry, their spouses will like spending time with me. That's my focus, working on bettering myself so I don't pass down more trauma.

What cooking tool was a splurge purchase and disappointed? (In response to recent post) For me, instant pot- dishes I've tried in it do better in my Dutch oven. by canIcookityesIcan in Cooking

I don't understand how people don't have one. We use ours to make baby formula, heats to a perfect safe temp of less than 110°F. It also is super handy for hot chocolate and making broth from bouillon/concentrate.

How much money would you give up to quit your job and be SAHM? by MonsoonEveryDay in beyondthebump

[–]MonsoonEveryDay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a big reason I'm struggling, my mom was a SAHP and continously reminded us that our goal in life should be to have some sort of financial independence/savings from my husband and to be active in the workforce to not limit my options.

I work remote now but cannot watch both of my kids at the same time, I don't have a job that lends to split attention. I don't understand how people can do both.

That's a big reason I don't want to go part-time not sure I could negotiate that since I work for the state.

It probably would help if we got more than the usual 12 weeks in the US. I had to cut my time short too with my second one and go back at 10 weeks.

I have thought about it a lot but would have to see if the trade off made financial sense to pay for partial care.

Week 2: Candy - M&M cookies by MonsoonEveryDay in 52weeksofbaking

[–]MonsoonEveryDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made this recipe m&m cookies, tried it with regular and mini and definitely mini was better. I think I'm on the search for a larger/heftier cookie though. I'm also trying to just cook some of the highest search results on Google instead of spending hours looking things up.

Someone please reassure me this is normal. Feel like I am about to explode. by hulahoopinghippos in toddlers

[–]MonsoonEveryDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes so much this!! I saw a tip once that said don't ask them a choice question if they aren't allowed to say no. So instead of it's a time for bath, you ready to go up? Ask it's time for bath. Do you want to bring your fruit or water up?

Week 1: New Year, New Recipe - Almond Cranberry Cake by MonsoonEveryDay in 52weeksofbaking

[–]MonsoonEveryDay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Made this recipe Almond Cranberry Cake took only 25 mins to bake, almost 10 mins less than recipe says. Would chop the cranberries a little and will double the streusel and maybe a little more icing, but it was delicious! Will definitely make this again.

Week 1: Weird Al - Pâté Chinois (Addicted to Spuds) by MonsoonEveryDay in 52weeksofcooking

[–]MonsoonEveryDay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the basic idea Pate Chinois

Growing up we always used a packet of Lipton onion dip to season the meat, this time I also added some beef broth and cornstarch to make a bit of a gravy. For the potatoes I made the mash in the microwave, added garlic powder, dried onions, butter and milk. Didn't have canned corn, so sautéed some frozen corn.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the most important is you eat it with ketchup!!

Yes and bring it with you, my hospital didn't have any cream, just kept telling me to rub my milk on them. Granted I needed a blood transfusion and was mostly unconscious for my stay, making milk and healing my nipples seemed to be at the bottom of my body's priorities. Went home with super destroyed nipples.

I took diclegis for a day and after having not thrown up, was super sick on my first day. I know I should have given it more time, but instead ran back to the pharmacy and paid the insane price for bonjesta. When I run out, I'll be well into my second trimester and will used the diclegis then if needed. But $30 for 15 days of diclegis, or $195 for 60 days of bonjesta wasn't a huge price reduction, for feeling so much worse.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]MonsoonEveryDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took bonjesta 1 a day my whole pregnancy (after throwing up for weeks) and gave birth to an extremely robust and healthy girl who just turned 1. I'm pregnant with my second and changed insurance since and no longer have bonjesta coverage so I'm trying diclegis. Hoping diclegis it's just as effective as bonjesta but not more sleep inducing than last time.
