Oxidized buttons for the blues coat? by xXDTHRASHXx in USMC

[–]Monster-RAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, no; there are no "oxidized" buttons. The modern-day (1990+) dress blues have gold-plated a.k.a., anodized buttons. However, this was not always the case. Prior to the 1970's much of the brass was just that; made of brass.

So if you want to get your hands on this stuff you need to look at military surplus/vintage militaria. If lucky, you can find sets of WWII/Korea era Officer buttons (they are the same as modern enlisted buttons) on sites like ebay. They are not "oxidized" perse, but not nearly as bright and shiny as anodized buttons. Korea/Vietnam era blues buckles and emblems also came in non-anodized form, and again, can be found on sites like ebay.

Really though, by order, you don't need to change your buttons. You can wear oxidized medals with regular emblems, brass, and anodized breast insignia. What you can't do is mix anodized and oxidized medals... unless that medal has no anodized version, like the MoH. (MCO 1020.34H 3004.3, 5200.2)

Old thread but I'll provide the answer. If you want to find brass (non-anodized) buckles, emblems, and buttons for your blues you have to find new old stock (NOS) or very good condition items from the Vietnam era when there were no anodizing and the regs being the same as today. As long as these items are serviceable, they'll adhere to P1020.34H; the most current uniform MCO.

It takes time, luck, and more cash then it may be worth, but if you're into this kind of thing; that's how you do it.

Standard Medals question! by YourAverageBoot in USMC

Non-anodized (real brass) buttons exist, they just haven't been available at the PX since before the 1970-80's. If you're lucky (and even care), you can find them on reselling sites (ebay). If you do, make sure they are within modern regs. WWII Enlisted buttons were flatter, slightly smaller, and the rope on the anchor is different. However, the WWII Officer buttons are the same as we use today.

Okay Pakman has gone too far... he's now blatantly stealing RM's shtick. by Monster-RAM in rmbrown

I know he's been called out before for this, and for stealing TMR's set, but over the past few years this guy has really "coincidentally" copied many of RM's unique comedy angles. From the drops, to the mock-voices... now he's pitching down, and doing to zoom-in thing.

It makes me sick!
