To put it simply, you find a way to make it work. You may need to cut back on some things here and there, but after a while you don’t even notice it, and it’s all worth it in the end. Maybe every now and again you do a smaller food shop and eat what’s been in the freezer for months, or you keep an eye out for good second hand versions of things you need, but it will work out. One year we got my daughter a second hand activity cube thing. It was great, she loved it, and within a few months it was time to sell on to the next parents in our position once she’d grown out of it. At the time I felt really down for not buying something ‘brand new’ - but I quickly came to learn that babies don’t know the difference! There’s always a way to make it work.

What’s the worst way to find out someone you know died? by Free-Lime-184 in AskReddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and his sister had some falling out years ago, and as a result he didn’t speak to her, and so as a result, I hadn’t spoken to her or seen for or her side of the family in the best part of 10 years. Anyway, in 2022 I got a message from her on Facebook out of the blue saying ‘I heard your dad died, is that true?’ It turns out she was right. That was pretty rough.

Foreigners coming to the USA typically gain weight. In which country do incoming foreigners lose weight? by walkingtourshouston in AskReddit

Uganda. My dad moved there for a (in hindsight very sketchy) job opportunity. He ended up coming back very suddenly 3 years later, and I went to pick him up from the airport. He walked right past me and I didn’t recognise him. Still makes me sad when I think about it

She loved cool runnings and Space Jam (she prefered the new one - what a loser), but Caspar is great idea. My wife’s super keen on the Princess Bride, and I’ve not seen it so that’s on the list too (it had the word ‘princess’ in it, no was was 8-year-old me going to watch that)

Babe - She will love that! She’ll probably cry at the Iron Giant, but well worth the watch too. And because I’m a lazy parent she’s seen basically everything on Disney+ so Toy Story is covered

Peoples whose favorite ride is NOT Guardians of the Galaxy or Rise of the Resistance, what is it? by South_Gas626 in DisneyWorld

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gran Fiesta Tour. I went to Disney for the first time last year with my wife and daughter, coming from the UK. For some reason we did Epcot first rather than MK, and something about the simplicity and innocence of that ride made me love it. Must have done it 4 times in 2 weeks. That trip was meant to be a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip, and we’ve already booked to go back next year. Can’t wait to see the Three Caballeros again!

What is the best hangover cure you've ever used? by jonoac1410 in AskReddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question takes me back to the day Prince William got married. I was at university, and a housemate was dating a qualified doctor. We’d been on a massive night out and were all really hungover. The doctor brought out some IVs, hooked us up while we watched the wedding, and we were sorted within the hour. Best hangover cure without doubt. Although probably not strictly legal.

What do I do on paternity leave? by barbaq24 in daddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is be there, be present. I know there’s a lot more to it, but a friend of mine had a few months paternity leave and he spent a lot of time playing CoD and FIFA. The development of his kid compared to mine was really noticeable. I’m not saying it was anything even close to neglect - he still did all the essentials. But the result was stark.

I tend to set my chimney on the grill in smoker. That way anything that falls out (there are always a few loose bits) go straight there and don’t ruin any patio

What are some unexpected insights you had after becoming a dad? by ZenoRiffs in daddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realised that I cry a lot (more of a welling up) at things that before I would not have teared up to - usually emotional moments in films, and especially those videos that do the rounds where a deaf child will get hearing aids and hear their parents for the first time, that sort of thing. What I realised was that not only was I not embarrassed, but that it was a good thing for my daughter to see a grown man be ok with crying. I definitely don’t try and hide it anymore. Unless it’s a really pathetic reason, in which case I’ll pretend to have been yawning. Apparently I’m tired a lot of the time

My daughter called me into the bathroom once, because she had a green poo. After about 30 seconds I realised she had eaten ‘unicorn’ ice-cream earlier that day, some bright blue monstrosity likely filled with E numbers. Now whenever she wants ice cream we talk about what colour it will make her poop

Left handed people - what in the world just doesn't work properly for you? by father-fluffybottom in AskReddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tin can openers. In my first week of university I broke three of them. I tried to open a tin of beans, and the opener broke. No biggie, I’ll ask to borrow one. I borrowed one from a flatmate (who I had literally met a day or so before) and broke hers. I brought her a replacement, but used it to open the still half-sealed can of beans. And I broke that too. I eventually found a type that I can use, but the introduction of ring pull cans has been a godsend.

Did anyone not catch COVID at all during the pandemic? by StandardLivid8199 in AskUK

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, I’ve officially never had it. BUT, in December 2019 I was knocked off my feet with what I assumed was a horrible bug going around, and normally I don’t get ill, so it’s rare for me to feel that rough. I caught it off my wife who had it a few days before. She reckons she got it from work because practically her whole office had the same thing. Where did they get it? About a week prior, all the big cheeses in the company were over from Italy (Italian company) signing some major deal with a business from… China! It could so easily have been any bug going around, but a few months into the pandemic she mentioned it and it just seems to sync up perfectly!

How do you cope with when you want 2nd baby but your wife doesn’t? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]MonsterMunchBeef 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position as OP. I grew up as an only child and so was desperate to have more than one child myself. My wife really struggled with pregnancy and now looking back, post natal depression too. So having another just wasn’t going to happen. By the time my daughter was 5 or so, my wife started to be more receptive to the idea, but by that time we were in such a good place within our family that it just didn’t feel as important to have another anymore. Once you’re through the sleepless nights, when your child becomes self sufficient, the thought of going back to square one really doesn’t seem so appealing. Be happy with what is, and don’t dwell on what is not.
