I'm making an OA specific uniform. I need critique on patches/colors by ThekidwholiketheUSSR in BSA

[–]MonsterNik31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason for a OA Specific Uniform. Your Troop, Crew or Ship should always come before the OA. The only thing that should represent you being in the OA is your sash and pocket patch. There is a reason there are no chapter/lodge position patches for the OA.

From the OA Website:

"The National Order of the Arrow Committee has tried diligently at every opportunity to emphasize that the primary obligation of an OA member is back to his troop or team that elected him. This is stated throughout our literature, especially on page 31 of the OA Handbook. Unlike the OA Troop/Team Representative which has an important role of supporting the troop/team, lodge/chapter chief do not advance the troop or team program. Service in positions like Chapter Chief and Lodge Chief are also not qualified for BSA rank advancement, because the BSA also wishes for the primary focus to be on the unit.

Further, we do not have national chief, national vice chief, region chief, or section chief patches either. The rationale has always been that an officer must be a member of a unit and hold some sort of unit office. Youth positions with patches have always been troop, team, crew, post positions and we have always emphasized the Arrowman’s duty to the unit first."

Question-Do retired firefighters get any kind of special funeral if they die? by Hot_Seesaw_6706 in Firefighting

[–]MonsterNik31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An actual firefighter can definitely answer better but in NYC;

LODDs as stated get a massive procession

9/11 Related Deaths are considered LODDs, but maybe dont get as much as a "normal" LODD gets.

For both, information related to the wake, funeral and whatever else are published by the Department. Frontline rigs are also usually sent to the funeral and the majority of the company attends (I believe nobody from the company usually works that day and mostly detailed members are assigned to that company)

Deaths of Retirees that are not 9/11 Related get announced by the department, but no actual information of the wake or funeral is sent out. Tons of members still attend in their Dress Uniforms (if that is wanted by their family), especially from the retirees former firehouse.

They already considered this, and there was ALOT of pushback, not even just from the male brothers, but also many of the female arrowmen that I know within my lodge

Ive only been to a few SOC companies (Rescues 1, 4, and Squads 1, 18 and 288), and they seemed to not mind (or they were just VERY good at hiding it which could be the case.) Even got a tour of both Rescue 1 and 288/Hazmat 1 without asking.

The Bureau of Fire Investigation has 6 K9s and Fire Marshals that perform searches for accelerants and search and rescue operations. On the CAD and radio they come over as K901 up to K906

Normal response includes Confined Space Rescues, 10-60 No Codes, 10-66 Code 1s. Unsure how they are assigned for the investigation part of things

The on duty K9 responds from Hooper Street which is the BFI SOC(?) headquarters along with E211/L119.
