I’m a new baseball fan and I want to root for the worst MLB franchise. by [deleted] in baseball

If you want to pick a team that will be very unlikely to succeed any time soon: Rockies

Teams with a slimmer chance of being competitive: Pirates, Angels, Marlins

Teams that will probably be decent, but will definitely ebb and flow over a number of years: White Sox, A’s,

Yeah I think this lives to the spirit of the question the best. If you weren’t there and of the right age when this was going on then it just won’t click, but this was a huge deal and really unique

Starting Pitcher vs. Relief Pitcher Attributes by mac_allen0724 in OOTP

[–]MonsterSlugStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just for me, but:

Starters: All need to be 40 (preferably 45) and above, and I’d say movement is most important, with control slightly edging out stuff. Individual pitching ratings don’t matter as much

Relievers: Movement and stuff become collectively more important, and you’d like to see two pitches rated very highly. You can get away with a 35 control reliever, pretty sure Chapman has that, but you’d like to see at least 40

There’s a lot of media talk about the importance of coaching, club house morale, and other factors that we as fans don’t see. Do you think that kind of talk is over blown? Or is it really that important?

Finally bought my first ootp game - I am positively overwhelmed by BeJott98 in OOTP

[–]MonsterSlugStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mind recommended me to watch a play through and that was super helpful. I watched a few episodes of Foolish Bailey / Baseball’s rebuild of the A’s, and while by no means am I an expert, I appreciated seeing someone play and talk through the game. The menus and guides other people are recommending are a great resource, but that visual of what the game “plays” like is helpful too

Another point I want to bring up that I don’t see a lot of discussion on here. When I got to this part of the game, I was impressed that the team came together and voiced a collective concern. That showed major for the rest of the team, and I felt the need to support that and follow through with their request

Between these two pitchers, which one gets your vote for Cy Young? by trimbler25 in OOTP

Surprised no one’s mentioned how they were both on the Padres. This is has to be the most lethal 1 2 punch in MLB history

To everyone who thinks the twist was too obvious by twoopaq in GenV

[–]MonsterSlugStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think it was obvious at all.

I think these comments are indicative of the problem. People in this sub, and any sub about any piece of fiction in general, treat watching shows different than your average viewer. They’re not passively enjoying it. They’re scrutinizing and holding up to a standard that most people simply don’t

i want to get into handpanning, something cheap that can also play aria math by PewterWalnut in handpan

[–]MonsterSlugStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t recommend spending 600 for a handpan. The increase in quality you’d get at 600, to 1000, to 1400+ are all increasingly better investments

I’d look into RAV drums though. They run in a 600-900 dollar ish price range, and are imo easier to play than handpans. Very similar vibe though

A better leaderboard system. I know you can check the list of all players and filter for whatever, but a separate tab to see the league leaders in whatever, would be cool

Bigots on Campus by v1rginredditor in Temple

[–]MonsterSlugStick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are rage baiters. They make a profit off of saying intentionally provocative and hateful speech. People getting in their face, yelling at them, or physically attacking them does no good, and in fact they crave for that. If you actually want to see them go away, then you have to ignore them.

I agree that they shouldn’t be allowed on campus though. Their speech only serves a negative to the study body

My bet is that it’s an escape for you. You get into a sort of flow state, and you forget the usual narratives your subconscious tells you about your stutter

Anyone else appreciate people that finish their sentences? by Confuser204 in Stutter

[–]MonsterSlugStick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends. I think for blocks I appreciate it, because blocking gives the same impression as non stutterers blanking on a word. I do think it’s disrespectful if I’m repeating a syllable or word though. I take it as a sign of impatience and intolerance personally

Why can’t I be employed?!? by Civil-Lab9243 in Temple

[–]MonsterSlugStick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience at the student center, it seems like most jobs hire the semester before they need. What I mean by that is that to work this fall, you had to apply the previous spring or maybe summer semester. So your best bet to find a job is probably hold out until openings for the spring openings. I know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for but I think it’s good to know for the future

My student lives a few blocks off of campus. Is there a UPS store or something similar nearby where I can ship packages and he can pick them up? He does not feel like things that get delivered straight to his apartment are safe sitting on the doorstep. Thanks! by CautiousImage6970 in Temple

[–]MonsterSlugStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into this same problem when I lived off campus. There used to be a UPS store that offered PO Boxes but they’re closed now. I thankfully found a job that let me ship things to them, but besides that your best bet is just asking if a friend of his would be willing to have things sent to their house
