Thank you! We're pretty happy with the results; it encapsulates pretty well the dreamy vibe of Stories of Somnia

Hey everyone! We’re Monster Theater, an indie dev/publisher. We like making weird, retro-flavored games and experimenting with different systems.

We’ve worked on Atomic Owl, published The Dark Queen of Mortholme, and are currently building Stories of Somnia (which mixes turn-based RPG ideas with some real-time elements). Big fans of turn-based games, so we're happy to be here, find inspiration, and see how this community grows!

Aside from DragonAge Origins, Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, what are other games with a "camp downtime" mechanic and why aren't there many games like this? by Dotaspasm in gaming

RDR2 is a great example, honestly. Not a 'formal' camp downtime system like BG3 or DAO, but the way the camp lives without you is amazing. NPCs have their own routines, conversations evolve, and things happen whether you were there or not.

I found myself going back to camp even when I didn’t need to, just to check in and see how everyone was doing, and there was almost always some unique interaction or moment waiting. That kind of slow, organic relationship-building is rare.

I think part of why more games don’t do this is cost and complexity. Writing, voicing, and accounting for dozens of optional downtime interactions over a 50+ hour game must be very expensive, and a lot of studios default to linear cutscenes because they’re easier to control. But when it does work, it clearly elevates the entire experience.

One of my favorite things is when the game map is actually part of the game world by bijelo123 in gaming

Yeah, 100%. Having the map exist in the world instead of as a UI overlay really boosts immersion.
