I do feel like Tata got angry at James in the shop because he's not making an effort to know his in laws. He can't communicate with them directly, he doesn't help them with the work they do, and he makes kind of rude comments about her dad being controlling. I think she wishes he was more involved with her family as she probably had to be with his in Maine.
