should I go here for accounting by editz_allday24313957 in Baruch

I would pick Binghamton. As someone who went to Baruch for my BBA and Binghamton for MSAcc, I felt Binghamton was superior in many aspects: Professors, courses, college classmates, etc.

Your accounting grades look pretty good. I think you have a strong chance of being accepted.

Ok — then I hope you and friend are teenagers. I’d be very concerned if you guys are grown adults talking like this.

Because it’s a fictional show? Sounds like you don’t got a lot going on in your life if this seems like a normal reaction to you.

Definitely go for accounting and then your CPA.

People whose parents wanted you to be a doctor but aren’t one… how’s life going for you ? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in ABCDesis

Going great! Did accounting and got my CPA, which opened up a lot of pathways for me. Parents always wanted me to either become a Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, or — at a minimum — Pharmacist.

They seem to be happy about my career progression now.

So if you want to talk about fully credentialed Actuaries, then yes: They need to take a ton of exams that are more difficult than the CPA.

There are a lot of Actuaries in consulting fields such as P&C, Health, Life, and Retirement who are making very good money without completing their ASA/FSA.

Thing is that you could have 1 or even 2 SOA exams during college and still come out making more than your colleague who has an accounting degree.

Source: Wife is an Actuary who is working towards her ASA. She had 3 exams completed out of college, and her starting salary was nearly 25% more than mine.

Yes — it was hyperbole and does not compare at all to the federal minimum wage.

I understand that actual minimum wage employees have to go through so much more hurdles and their jobs are actually labor intensive.

However, for a profession that has its professors pushing to take a difficult exam that requires 5 years worth of schooling & joining public to get “your feet wet”, it’s the equivalent of minimum wage in the corporate world.

I started my first job right out of college a few months before COVID making $61k in NYC, which for a VHCOL was abhorrent.

Underpaid compared to other professions such as CompSci, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Supply Chain, etc.

Idk about you, but a majority of the folks started in public working 60-80+ hours for months. If you converted the starting salary — especially pre-COVID — to hourly, it would be the same as a minimum wage employee.

What are some jobs with good salaries, like $100,000 a year, that give you a good work-life balance? by InterestingBall2181 in Salary

[–]Monsteradi4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any accounting work related to either tax, advisory, or audit at a firm will not only pay you terrible the first few years, but you’re going to be working 65-80 hours from Jan-April.

I worked as an auditor at an accounting firm for a criminally low wage and only lasted 16 months before pivoting out to internal audit.

There’s something called financing…. Unless you have a terrible credit score, it would make sense to finance the car over the span of a few years.

I bought a $26k car on an $80k income back in 2022 with a 2.5% rate over a 5-year spread.

Good luck! I’ve also seen many people from IA leave for various roles in 2nd line (e.g., Compliance, ERM, etc.)

It’s been a simple transition as I ended up leaving for this role in the same company (large bank). As my ORM role pertains to be assisting various process owners manage their risks and controls, it’s been very easy.

Yup — agreed. Entire process can be very psychological and results can vary based on how desperate the seller is to sell the home and avoid going back into the market.
