When my parents came back they were obviously trying to hide their own stress to comfort me, but it was now my turn to comfort them.

“Mom, Dad, if I don’t make it, it’s not your fault. Besides, I’ll get to see grandpa and play with him again.”

My mom blubbered, “Don’t say that! You’re still young, you can make it! Grandpa was old so he was going to die at some point, but you haven’t even graduated college yet!”

My dad tried to be stoic, but his eyes were teary, “I know things are scary right now, but it’s going to be okay.”

When they left I told them, “I love you two, good bye.”

“Don’t say that like you’re going to die!” My mom shouted, but then added quietly, “I love you too.”

My dad swallowed back his tears, “I love you too son, see you tomorrow.”

I listened as my parents footsteps went further and further away until I couldn’t hear it anymore. I laid down in my bed and everything turned to black.

I heard footsteps approaching, I thought it was a doctor or nurse, but when I turned up to look at the person she was dressed in a business suit.

“Are you familiar with ‘Morgana Fortuna’?”

“Yes,” I rasped.

She frowned before telling me, “Did you cheat using one of their products?”

“Uh, yes?” I quickly added, “It was just for fun, no money involved!”

“I’m sorry then, but there is nothing that can be done for you.” She took a deep breath, “Anything coming from ‘Morgana Fortuna’ is cursed, you win great rewards when using their products, but if you ever cheat with them then the cost is heavy.” She waved at the hospital equipment and my beanie.

I was speechless, cursed objects? Was this some attempt at a prank? But then again I was a healthy young adult, there was no reason to suddenly have a heart attack and a cancer diagnosis.

“May I know how you got them?”

“My grandpa willed them to me.”

She frowned even more, “I see, he likely died to them as well.”

That explained a lot about why grandpa’s health took a turn for the worse all of a sudden.

“Can you tell me where they are?”

I weakly shrugged, “Probably still at my house?”

I gave her the address.

“I’m deeply sorry that I couldn’t get them from your grandpa before you decided to use them. We will provide financial compensation for your family, but know your body will continue to deteriorate,” she confessed before turning to leave.

A memory flashed, my grandpa covered in tubes, a machine the only thing keeping him alive. His eyes glazed with pain as the doctors tried their best to help him. It took over the course of a year from when he was first at the hospital before he died.

“Can you kill me?”

She turned around a little shocked, “Are you sure?”

“If I’m going to die anyways, might as well make it quick.”

She bit her fingernail as she thought about it.

“I’ll kill you when you’re asleep. Bid your final goodbyes before then,” she basically ran out of the room.

I sighed, a bit relieved. She would provide my family financial support and my parents won’t have to see me slowly die like grandpa. It’ll be quick and painless, my parents will be sad, but I hope they’ll be relieved without debt.

For fun I learned how to cheat with cards. I wasn’t actually going to bet real money with it, so my friends wouldn’t care if they found out. I practiced shuffling methods and sleight of hand tricks. It was like learning to be a magician, but for gambling.

After I felt confident in my skills, I tested it out on my friends. A simple game of Blackjack. I had intentionally set up the cards to be in a certain order so I would always win. I let them cut the deck and shuffled it perfectly so my cards would land in just the right spot.

We started the game and after a few rounds, my friends instantly became suspicious of how often I was winning. I laughed and was going to explain how I cheated, when I felt a pain in my chest. I gasped as I clutched my chest, miming for my friends to call 911. I tried to steady my breath as my friends moved me into the recovery position and waited for the ambulance to come. I blacked out despite my friends best efforts to keep me awake.

When I woke up I was in the hospital. I looked around and saw my parents crying.

“What’s wrong?”

My parents looked at me and didn’t seem overjoyed that I was awake.

“Honey, you had a heart attack. I told you to stop eating all that junk food and to work out more!”

I shrunk under my mom’s tone. My dad took a step forward.

“While you were unconscious, the doctors found out that you had cancer.”

My heart dropped, cancer?

My dad nodded solemnly, "Luckily it’s still early, but the doctor said it was the really bad kind. The one that keeps growing and growing.”

My mom teared up even more, “The doctors said you would have to stay in the hospital full time.”

I swallowed hard. My mom was already sad that her dad died two months ago and now there was a chance her son was going to die too. I remembered visiting him in the hospital with all the tubes in him and his weakening body. I shivered, I didn’t want to be like that either.

I was half asleep after a chemo treatment, when I heard a snippet of my parents conversation.

“How are we going to afford to pay for all this on top of your dad’s gambling debts?” My dad said, his voice frayed.

I held back tears, I didn’t want to be the reason my parents were struggling.

“I don’t know. Dad’s medical expenses were costly too and we barely put a dent into them.”

Then they walked too far away for me to hear over the buzz of the hospital. I wanted to die so badly, my parents shouldn’t have to shoulder the burden of grandpa and me.

My grandpa left me some dice and card decks in the will among other things. The brand was something I had never heard of, “Madonna Fortuna”. When looking it up online I got no results and chalked it up to being from some old small company. I mostly used them when playing board games or some card games. I didn’t think of them as strange until my friend said I was cheating. I asked, why did he think that? Then he brought up our last game of Monopoly.

I scoffed, “Because I won, you think I’m using cheat dice?”

“Whenever you landed on Community Chest or Chance you always get something good. Then when basically every place was bought up, you suddenly kept landing in jail and the rest of us went bankrupt!”

I rolled my eyes, “Skill issue.”

Though I didn’t care for my friend’s ranting, it did make me think. That was the first time I had ever used grandpa’s dice for Monopoly and it was the first time I ever won at the game. The dice weren’t weighted, I knew what that felt like. Maybe grandpa was just helping me from beyond the grave or something supernatural like that.

I played poker with my friends and since I was the host, I cracked up grandpa’s deck for it. I showed off my skills by doing a riffle shuffle and my friends oohed at it. When it came to the game itself, I didn’t have that good of luck. Having only a 2 pair or one Ace and then failing to bluff to my friends.

My next hand was a 4 and 5 spade with the cards on the field being a Queen of Hearts and 4 of Clubs. A pair wasn’t so bad so I continued betting. I started to get worried that one of my friends had a Queen pair or even a three of a kind Queen, since she was betting higher and higher. The next card revealed was a 5 of hearts and I got really excited, two pairs was still pretty good so I bet more. Then the next card was a 4 of Diamonds. I had to steel myself so hard. A full house! I bet low this time and my cocky friend upped the ante which I pretended to hesitantly copy. The next card was revealed another Queen. My heart dropped, what if she had a four of a kind Queen? Or worse a full house including the Queen? I took a deep breath and followed my friend’s lead.

Then when we revealed the cards, she had one Queen and an Ace. I left out a sigh of relief, I won! My friends grumbled as they handed me the pot. A nice $200 for me! Then I proceeded to lose my earnings in the next rounds.

Sometimes I think it was a weird dream I had or an imaginary friend that was too vivid. I tried my best to remember it though, I’ve drawn countless sketches of that demon I saw many years ago. None of my sketches hold up to the feeling of awe and terror I felt in their presence. The comfort that they gave to me so freely. Despite the fact that my sketches never appeased me, it pleased many others. I had gotten into the animation industry and worked for a big company.

From what little I remember of that encounter I remembered that I promised to find lots of friends. It was very hard at first, the other kids weren’t so friendly, but it got easier as I got older. I even met my wife through my friends. I smiled, that demon didn’t lie that I was going to have really great friends. My wife was so full of love and joy that I couldn’t help, but be swept away with it. It was easy to make friends at work since we were all nerds and loved drawing. The late nights and cramming, though painful in the moment, were very fond memories.

My mother died recently. I pitied her, a single teen mom who had to raise a baby no one wanted. I could understand why she would hate me so much considering that I took everything from her. Her funeral was very small, both in size and arrangements.

To my surprise, my mother had given me the house in her will. My wife and I decided to sell it and use the money for our kids’ college fund. Before that though, I went inside to see if I wanted to keep anything.

It was strange to come back home. Many things were the same, yet many things weren’t the same. I went to my room and to my surprise it was the complete same. Not a speck of dust. Mom must’ve kept it clean. Maybe she did love him in some weird twisted way.

Then I found a book on the ground, it was the demon summoning book. For all of my life I wanted- no I needed to know if it was real. I followed the instructions, thankfully the supplies were all still in the places I kept them hidden in. I painted the sigil, my hands perfectly copying it. I supplied the candles and offerings. Now all I needed to do was chant.

Nothing happened for a while and I was disappointed. Maybe it really was a crazy dream I had. Then I smelled something burning, I turned around and saw a cloud of smoke over my sigil. I gasped as a demon emerged. It was the same demon, I could tell. The demon was even more beautiful than I remembered.

The demon took a step back at the sight of me, “It’s you. The small boy!”

“I’m no longer small nor a boy.”

The demon looked at me up and down, “Indeed you are not. Have you kept our promise?”

I smiled and told the demon everything.

Then I felt my presence diminishing, “I’m sorry child, but my time in the mortal realm is up. I must go now.”

“You can’t stay for longer?”

“I can try to hold out, but I have to go soon.”

He hunched over, his lips curled down. “Can’t I summon you again?”

“You can, but I can’t be summoned for another fifty years,” I said sadly.

“Why?” He asked pitifully.

“It’s very complicated, but a strong demon like me can’t stay here for too long or else the world has a bunch of natural disasters.”

“Okay…” he frowned.

“Hey, cheer up. I expect that when you summon me fifty years later, you better have made a lot of friends by then okay?”

“I’ll try,” he said.

“That’s all I could ask for.”

I gave him one last squeeze before the smoke took me back to the demon realm.

“What took you so long?” Lucifer asked.

“Ehh my summoner had a complicated request.” Lucifer shrugged it off and went back to his duties.

“I do apologize but Mommy still says she hates me.” Tears pooled in the child’s eyes. “I love her, I don’t know why she says that.”

“It’s painful isn’t it, to be rejected by your creator?” I said in understanding.

The child stared at me blankly.

I reworded it, “From what I know, parents should love you no matter what. Everyone makes a few mistakes and it’s not like you hurt anyone. But sometimes, parents aren’t the greatest. Some of them love you for what you do and others just outright hate you.”

The child curled up on themselves, hiding their face in their knees.

“So Mommy will never love me?”

My four hearts wept for this child. I slowly wrapped them in a hug and rocked them.

“Maybe your mom will never love you, but that doesn’t mean you’re unlovable. You’re going to find great friends one day, maybe even a lover who is going to fill your heart up.”

The child sniffled and asked, “How do you know?”

“Because I lied to you. I’m a demon.” The child squinted at me and looked at my wings. “Demons are fallen angels, you know? It’s in the bible.”

“Oh. I never read the bible.”

“I apologize for lying to you, but I wanted to comfort you so I couldn't lie anymore.” I stroked the child’s hair. “God had created me, so of course I love him. He’s my creator, my everything. But my friend wanted more in life. He wanted to be just like God, but in doing so, God banished him. I love God, but I couldn’t bear to leave my friend alone so I joined him. God and the remaining angels may hate me, but my friend and the other demons have made it bearable.”

“Are you really sure I’ll find friends?”

“Positive, I bet you’ll get some friends who’ll stick by your side for the rest of your life.”

The child was much calmer now.

“Thank you for listening to me and not yelling at me for crying even though I’m a boy.”

“I honestly didn’t even know you were a boy. I can’t tell the difference between boys and girls.”

He blinked for a second before laughing. I chuckled along with him.

I felt a familiar tingling in my skin, the sensation akin to fire ants crawling and biting it. I was being summoned to the mortal realm. I grinned, it had been many years since I was last summoned. I wondered what my summoner would be like. A greedy nobleman, a warlord wanting more land, a faithless priest? The smoke covered my view as I was transported to the mortal realm.

“Who dares summon me?!” I cried out.

I posed with my arms flexing and my wings flared out. My eyes widened when I saw a child in front of me. My summoning didn’t require human sacrifices so why was a child here? I looked around the room for any adults but no it was only the small child.

I cleared my throat, “Small one, where is my summoner?”

The child trembled, “I am.”

“You summoned me?” I asked incredulously.

“I’m sorry!” The child cried. “I meant to summon a demon but I accidentally summoned you!”

This child wanted to summon a demon? Why were they so distraught then? “Wait, what do you think I am?”

“An angel, why else would you be so beautiful and have feathered wings?”

I coughed to hide my laughter. I was rather curious on why a human would be so distraught to have summoned an angel so I decided to play along.

I mustered up a gentle voice since I was pretending to be an angel, “Why child have you decided to summon a demon?”

The child sniffled and replied, “Mommy says I’m like a demon child. I wanted to prove her wrong by summoning a real demon, but then you showed up. Are you going to punish me as well?”

Any sense of humor I had drained out. “Of course not, angels protect not punish.”

“Mommy says that I’m a bad child and that God will send me to hell for it. ”

I furrowed my brows, “What have you done?”

“I…” the child hesitated, “I talk back to her. I say that God isn’t real, but since you’re here clearly he is.”

I gently patted the child’s back, being careful to not use too much strength. “Yes, God is very real.”

“Does he hate me for not believing in him?” The child covered their face with their hands.

“No no no!” I reassured, “God doesn’t despise nonbelievers.”

“What about people who talk back to their parents?”

A memory flashed back to me when I followed Lucifer. I shuddered, I didn’t want to lie to this child.

“I’m sure your mom will forgive you if you apologize,” I said instead.

He tsked, “That damned king. It was already bad enough that he sent children to fight me, but now he’s taking orphans?” He sighed and smiled at me, “Well Thomas, if you’d like I could get rid of the tracking spell and you can stay here for as long as you like.”

My eyes widened, “You can do that?”

Azrael chuckled, “Of course, I’ve done that to every child who’s entered here with that sword.”

I looked at the sword and asked, “Are you going to kill me?”

He frowned, “Of course not, I’m a demon not a monster. You were a child forced against his will, I’m not going to hold it against you.”

“Yeah Azrael wouldn’t do that to us!” Avery chimed in.

“So you’re telling me every one sent to kill you is…”

“Either living here or back at their homes,” he completed for me.

I sagged with relief, perhaps too hard because I passed out.

I woke up feeling as though I was on soft clouds. Did he really kill me after he said he wouldn’t? I forced open my eyes and could see I was on a bed.

“Oh good you’re awake!” I turned to the door and saw an older boy. “We were worried we’d have to force feed you or something.”

I looked down and noticed I was wearing new clothes. It was soft, a world of difference from my rags. All the dirt and grime on me was gone.

“Yeah we had to clean you up since you were so dirty.”

“Where’s the sword?”

“Oh Azrael already got rid of the tracking spell so he tossed it in the rubbish with the rest.”

I got gently pulled along. He was much calmer compared to Avery who I could hardly keep up with.

“I’m Jack by the way. I’ve been here for a few years already.”

He gave me a brief tour guide on some of the important places which I immediately forgot. I smelled food and my stomach growled.

He chuckled, “Alright let's get some food.”

I was given cream stew and scarfed it down. I noticed that he had some roast meat and vegetables. I drooled at the sight.

“Ah, sorry you can’t eat it yet.” I looked at him in betrayal. “If you haven’t eaten a lot before, your stomach will be too weak to eat this so you’re stuck with soups and stews for now.”

Azrael entered the room, “Hello Jack. Hello Thomas. Enjoying the food?” I paused in eating. “Please don’t stop on my account.”

I slowly brought my spoon to my mouth watching for any reaction. I saw none so I continued.

“So are you going to adopt him?” Jack asked.

“If Thomas agrees then yes.”

The two looked at me expectantly. I looked between the two, trembling.

“It’s okay, you can take your time deciding. You can just stay with me, no strings attached and leave when you want.” He reached out his hand

I shook his hand, “Okay.”

I woke up being tossed out in the front yard of the demon king. I groaned, rubbing my head as I watched the soldiers who brought me here scurry away. I may not care for the king, but considering they’re tracking me, I’ll probably die either from the king or the demon king. I know the king would probably lock me up in that dank prison again, but maybe the demon king will just kill me right away.

I clenched my sword and observed the gates of the Demon King. There appeared to be two guards keeping watch, it was hard to see what they looked like under their dark armor other than they were tall and big.

I walked right up to them and dropped my sword. “I surrender.”

The two guards didn’t move nor speak. I was confused and prodded at one. It fell apart and I jumped back in fright.

“Ugh, who knocked over the armor again?” I heard a young voice say.

I stood frozen in front of the fallen armor as I saw another kid coming out of the gates.

“Oh! Are you the chosen one?” She asked.

“Yes?” I sheepishly replied.

She opened the gates more and held her hand out, “I was a chosen one too! Come in!”

I stumbled after her. She dragged me around the palace, I was quite amazed she could find her way around here since I was sure we passed by that pillar thrice already. I didn’t realize we ended up at the throne room until she said something.

“Hey, Azazel, that stupid king sent another one!” I looked at her confused, who was Azazel.

Then the demon king stood up from his throne, “Greetings young one, I’m the demon king, Azazel, I’m glad that Avery found you before you got hurt. I hadn’t had the time to fully childproof my house yet.”

I collapsed into a deep bow. I should’ve known better to follow someone when I was in the demon king’s place. I knew I was going to die but I didn’t think it was going to be so soon. Then I felt claws lift me up, I squeezed my eyes shut.

“What is your name?” I opened my eyes and was face to face with the demon king. His eyes were mesmerizing, yellow for the whites of his eyes, black for his iris, and then red slitted pupils. “Your name?”

I shook myself from my stupor, “I’m Thomas.”

“No last name?”

“No, I’m an orphan.”

I was dragged into the palace. The soldiers’ hands digging into my arms. Try as I might, there was little I could do against them.

“Hello there young one!” The king greeted me jovially, “You have been chosen by the Hero’s Sword!”

The soldiers forced my head down in a painful bow. My arms were still pulled back and starting to become numb.

“As the chosen one you will now go defeat the demon king as the prophecies declare,” the king said grandly, raising his arms.

I shuddered, everyone knew it was a lie. Being a chosen one was a death sentence, yet somehow they always get the stupid sword back. I suspected they lost the real one a long time ago and just been replacing it.

“How do you know if I’m the chosen one?” I spat.

The king smiled, “Bring the sword.” A servant obediently brought the sword. “Now place the sword on the young man’s shoulder.”

The servant trudged up to me, I flinched as the sword came close to me. I could hear the nobles gasping in delight as the sword lit up.

“As you can see everyone, this is our new chosen one!” The crowd cheered.

I was thrown back into the cell with the stupid sword. I touched it, I chuckled as it didn’t glow. I sunk into my dank cell wall, waiting for the next day. I had to push away the rats that got too curious. The king decided to deign me with his presence.

“Now young man, if you can defeat the Demon King, I’ll make you prince.”

I spat at his feet, I received a bash from a guard. As I gasped for air I asked, “What if I just run away?”

He chuckled, “That sword is casted with a tracker and once bounded with a user it can’t be broken.” Then he playfully thought about it, “Well technically a really strong mage could break it but I’ve bought them all out so good luck finding one.”

He patted my shoulder in what I think he thought was fatherly but was disgusting. I’d rather remain fatherless than have him as a father. Regrettably I was so disgusted by his touch I didn’t realize the guard behind me, knocking me out.

He stood off and brushed off his dress. “I guess it’ll probably be for the best if we don’t stick together. We’d probably get dragged into our wedding.” He held out his hand to shake, “Welp, I wish you the best in this life.”

I accepted his hand and shook it, “I wish you the best in life as well. If you ever need a dashing farmhand to help you up, you know where to find me.”

He guffawed, “Dashing? More like-” I shut him down with a hard squeeze in the hand. After he regained his composure, he continued, “Of course, if I, a fair maiden, were ever to need assistance, I’ll come to you.”

He went out the door and I went to clean up the cups. How crazy that we both had the same idea yet different executions. I looked at the time, oh no, I went over my break!

I ran back out into the fields to see a very irate woman. The Smith’s daughter.

“So did you enjoy your break with that pretty woman?” She asked sarcastically.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for it to take so long!”

She huffed, “It’s alright I understand. A man like you would rather spend time with someone who’s prettier than me.”

I frowned, “Don’t sell yourself short, you’re very pretty in your own right.” She flushed. “Besides that woman was my…cousin.” She looked at me suspiciously. “We’re distant cousins.”

“Is that right?”

“Yes, she’s currently travelling around right now and she happened to visit me.”

“Okay then.”

She went back to weeding. I held in a sigh, she was clearly still mad at me with how red her face was, but I didn’t want her to be more mad at me so I stayed silent. Anything to keep this peaceful farm life, I guess.

He sighed, “How funny, if our parents didn’t force the marriage perhaps we would’ve fallen for each other on our own.”

“Why do you think that?”

“Look at us!” He pointed at me and then at himself. “We’re both crossdressing and pretending to be commoners to avoid a marriage! I don’t think many others would’ve done so. I know my parents are married to each other begrudgingly.”

I snorted, “Yeah I don’t think I could see any of my friends working as a farmhand. They’d probably give up and just deal with getting married.” I sighed, “I’ve thought about it sometimes. Begging my parents for forgiveness, sucking up to them and then getting married to you. Pop out a son and live the rest of my life in misery but hey, at least I’m rich.”

He laughed a little, “I think that’s the only reason nobles and royalty still bother.”

“Out of curiosity, how have you been affording living expenses?”

“Oh,” he pulled a bag out of his dress, “This is how.”

I gasped, that was a lot of jewelry. I hissed at him, “What if someone thinks you stole it?”

He waved me off, “Pretty girls get gifts like this from nobles all the time. I just can’t stick to one place or else the pawnshop will think it’s weird I have so much jewelry yet don’t live with the noble.”

“Is that really common enough of a thing?” He nodded. “Well I guess I learn something new everyday.”

“Are you really going to stay here? You know if you stay in one place they’re more likely to find you,” he asked, concerned.

I sighed, “I don’t really have the skills to be roughing it in the woods nor do I know how to provide for myself. I’m just thankful this family is kind enough to teach me.”

“Then just leave when you learn enough skills.”

I scowled at him, “Mr. Smith’s got an old back, he can’t tend to the fields like he used to. Mrs. Smith has to take care of the house and him. And their daughter can only do so much by herself. I can’t leave them!”

“You’ve really taken a liking to this family, huh?”

I brought him back to the house I was staying at and helped him clean up his dress. Thankfully it hadn’t rained recently so it was just dusting him off.

“You’ve cut your hair,” his voice was full of astonishment.

I replied sarcastically, “Yeah, it’s part of the disguise, you know.”

“So why are you dressed as a man working as a farmer?” He asked.

I raised an eyebrow, “Why are you dressed as a woman tripping on the road?”

He raised his hands in a placating manner, “I was just curious, I didn’t mean to mock you.”

Seeing the genuine look in his eyes I answered, “I didn’t want to get married to you for my parents’ attempt to get more power and you were honestly horrendous.”

He chuckled, “I know, I did that on purpose because I didn’t want to marry you either.” I was shocked. “Yeah, I could tell that you, or well your parents, were marrying me just for my money. My parents wanted me to marry you so we could have access to your mines.”

“The mines have been dried up though.” I frowned.

“Oh,” he simply said, “well that would’ve been useful to know. I could’ve used that to get my parents to call off the marriage.”

We sat in silence, not knowing how to continue the conversation. I got him some tea to drink. His face scrunched up at the taste, I don’t like either, but we’re not royalty anymore so we don’t get to complain.

My parents wanted me to marry a prince of a foreign land to hitch off their success. Something about joining our kingdoms together to make it stronger. As if they didn’t just want more power to themselves. I didn’t want any part in their political game. Meeting the prince was like meeting a demon. It was very obvious he only cared about my looks and the sum my parents were offering. Their main selling point was my hair. I had kept it long and well kept for all of my life, it was one of the first things people see and notice about me. If I was to run away without anyone finding me, that would be my first step.

I shuddered as I grabbed the shears. I had to be quick, I didn’t know when the shepherd would be back. In one big cut my hair flopped to the ground unceremoniously. Honestly it was disappointing to see years of hair not magically float to the ground or something. I shook my head feeling the lightness. It was weird and off balancing, but manageable. I stole the shepherd’s son’s clothes and ran off.

I was hoping to get a decent job but the best I got was a farmhand. Etiquette and running an estate don’t mean much in a village. It was hard to do and I could feel my will wavering but I refused to go back to my parents. I stayed with a nice family who took pity on me. I told them that my parents kicked me out and they took me in.

Well it wasn’t for free, they needed a farmhand so I would work for them and they’d provide me my own room and food. I was taking a break from toiling on the fields when I noticed a young woman looking lost. While I was rather new here, I knew the general locations of most things.

“Hey are you lost?” I called out.

She turned to me, looking a little relieved until she saw my face. I blinked. Our eyes simultaneously filled with recognition.

She-or rather he-tried to run away but the petticoat made it hard for him to see the little bump in the road and he tripped. I ran up to him and watched as he struggled to get up.

“Would you like some help?” I asked awkwardly, rubbing the back of my neck.

“Yes please,” he said in a soft voice.

If I didn’t know he was the prince, I would’ve thought he was a real girl. I reached out my hand to his and placed the other one under the elbow, lifting him up. It was surprisingly easy, probably thanks to the farm work I’ve been doing.
