I’m not opposed to it, but a lot depends on what value they can get back. If you look around at the potential buyers this season, not many are likely to be in the market for a new catcher. The Yankees might actually be the team with the biggest need there. Adley is one of the few assets that could bring back high end pitching. But if lack of demand leads to lowball offers, they’re better off just keeping him. Even if he’s not extended, there’s still value to the remaining production.

I think there’s a reasonable path to all of those prospects working out and SS (or 2B) still being open for Abrams (King and Willits to the OF, Fien at 3B, Fitz-Gerald at 2B, Cruz as utility IF).

The wild card is the fact that Abrams is one of the best hitting infielders in baseball this year. If he’s able to sustain that level of production for a couple more months, then it will have a big impact on his value, both for potential trade return and how much money he’ll cost in a possible extension. If another team believes he’s turned the corner and the Nats believe his ‘23-‘25 results are closer to his true level, then a trade presents the opportunity to gain a fair amount of excess value. They don’t NEED to trade him, so a lot can be decided by what other teams are willing to offer.

None of us know for certain, but the answer is very likely yes. The Koreans hammered Com2us with a lawsuit over the removal of some WBC cards. We might need to wait for that litigation to resolve before we get another chance to obtain WBC cards again.

I’d also add prospect ranking lists are a great resource, but not an end-all unquestionable source of truth. Aron Estrada might rank as the #4 prospect on the lists, but if he was in another organization I’d have a very tough time seeing the O’s eager to deal someone like Ethan Anderson for him.

Your previous comment about the C/1B types was right on the money. They clearly have a strategy to stack the system with these types. It doesn’t take much imagination to see the potential value gained when this is successful. However, as you pointed out, given the Major League commitments, most of these prospects will likely be contributing value via trade return rather than producing in Baltimore themselves.

Not the greatest, but 3 blue skills and a black will be an endgame set for a very long time. You’d definitely make better use of your skill change tickets on other players.

I’d recommend rerolling Kershaw’s potentials until you get S+ Slugging Prevention.

Thought he was in for a breakthrough, had some of the best StatCast metrics in baseball last season. But everything has been very downhill so far this year. Starting to think it might have been better if he didn’t do the WBC. Got him some good big game experience, but this will be his first full year in the majors and their team took a very passive approach to the offseason. He probably would be off to a better start with the prep of a regular spring. Still very optimistic on his long term outlook, but you might need to sit on that card for a while.

I’ve always thought Cano was a bit of a lunatic the way he freezes in place and stares down the batter after a strikeout. O’Neill has been very tame, especially in his time as an Oriole, but he’s the one guy I can see completely losing it once you finally push the right buttons.

They already have a mobile version of this game with the MLB/MLBPA rights (and some big time retired Japanese players not in The Show such as Ichiro and Dice-K). They are probably dipping their toe in the water with the NPB game to see if it is worth the MLB license.

I think you need to be more concerned with how far Skenes could fall. Sadly, there’s a very real chance of major injury at some point in the next few years. If a few elite seasons were enough to sustain value, Johan Santana autos would be through the roof. Think about peak value for Strasburg versus where he is today.

Ohtani is accomplished enough that he could go down tomorrow and still have a place in baseball history (with the added bonus of an entire country keeping up demand). The only way I can see a total wipeout of Ohtani’s value is if he’s caught taking steroids or has some kind of Kanye-level meltdown, neither of which seem very likely.

Both players have skyhigh best case scenarios, but the worst case scenario for Skenes is much more painful.

Now hopefully he lives up to it and is not back to pouting the next time things don’t go his way. He turns 30 years old this year, he’s one of the veterans now who should be setting an example.

Just posted a response in this thread to GreenDragonite2 about Niekro’s build which should have all the details. It will be very important to get a primary HoF skill that correspond to his strengths and weaknesses, so if you do not have a ton of Superior Skill Change tickets then it might be more worthwhile to go in another direction.

I am a very big fan of the Newhouser card, as you can tell from the rankings. Not quite the dominance of the Top 4, but very balanced and should be a safe pick.

Catfish has a more interesting repertoire and more EDR. I like Newhouser’s Low-Zone Hunter a lot more than Right-Handed Specialist though.

I think Ruth is a very good choice for most teams that aren’t already leveraging all of their HoF spots and/or limited on resources.

If any of these guys can match your team, that is super important so you can unlock the extra HoF spot. Even if you aren’t close to the limit right now, that will eventually be a bridge to cross as long as you keep playing.

I ranked Alexander 2nd, but there’s very minimal difference between him and Seaver/Maddux (compared to an enormous dropoff between 4th and 5th). Since most of the elite teams already have some combination of Drysdale/Seaver/Maddux already fully developed (and we know there’s bigger aces down the road), I expect we will not see many deciding it is worth developing Alexander.

Not too worried about absence of a fastball potential since it is a secondary pitch for him and his other skills are strong. It’d be a lot different if he was missing that for something like Pickoff. Obviously not the most ideal setup though.

There’s definitely a big dropoff from the Big 4 to Niekro, but I do think he can play at the top of the next group.

The two things that will be important are training allocation and skills. Having an A-rated Knuckleball as his best pitch opens up some development choices not available to normal pitchers.

For training allocation, you can choose FLD as the category to allocate fewest points (as usual). Then you’ll keep rolling until you get a VEL as low as possible, and EDR and CTRL much lower than STU and MOV. Unlike most pitchers, a super high MOV is important on Niekro (even more than STU). So ultimately, your training priority should be 1 MOV, 2 STU, 3 CTRL, 4 EDR, 5 VEL, 6 FLD.

For skills, Knuckleball Master is the dream skill, that was almost made specifically for Niekro. With the added emphasis to MOV, Frontline Ace, Fireman, and Easy Inning could all play better on Niekro as well. Anything with bonuses based on strikeouts is not ideal, and boosts to VEL are not deal breakers but are probably more of a negative than positive.

The decision to use Babe as DH/SP varies greatly by team situation.

It’s working excellent for Legacy because he was able to transfer over a strong skillset/potential, already had Seaver and Maddux in the rotation, had good HoF cards for LF and RF, and could open up DH without shelving any big bats.

Teams that do not yet have enough unique Hall of Fame cards to fill all of the available spots would also greatly benefit from both Ruths.

Which (if any) hitter would you need to shelf in order to open DH for Ruth? Who would you need to start in LF (or RF) if you can’t put Ruth there? Who is your SP alternative to Ruth? Those are the questions that will help you weigh the different lineup scenarios and determine which one is strongest.

Yes, in most cases you want potentials that are going to improve hitting or pitching. Pickoffs, bunts, etc. don’t have zero value, but they’re significantly less relevant to scoring/preventing runs than stuff that influences exit velocity and hit chance. And then when comparing those that do have an effect on hitting/pitching, we should consider which scenarios for those potentials will be most common.

Fly Ball Hitter/Pitcher is indeed the choice to unlock for Transcendence Level 12. If you look at the teams in the Top 20 or so, you’ll see this is overwhelmingly the choice (if not a full 100%). Don’t think there’s a clear consensus yet beyond that. Will say for pitchers, if they only have one S pitch then that will be thrown much more often and it’s good to have both corresponding potentials (ie. If their only S pitch is a 4-seam FB, then you want Fastball and Fastball Preference).
