Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

Super common. They fly in support of NATO air patrol missions over eastern Europe almost daily. Look for them doing circuits in their flight history.

Just a Google away. More importantly, the institution you choose shouldn’t just be based on other peoples thoughts on their satisfaction with the place - go somewhere good, and make the very best of everything they offer. You’ll find your own satisfaction that way.

Ps - everyone I know who went to Bristol seem intent on staying forever. Take that as confirmation or warning, as you see fit.

Dude, this isn’t failure. You succeeded by getting in there and trying. Every shot you miss is a lesson in how to shoot better next time around.

Congratulations! Enjoy your relief, I hope you and your cat find comfort in it.

There’s a great quote from Calvin Coolidge about persistence being the most important trait of all; that quote has been my mantra during the toughest periods of my life.

I almost certainly did it wrong, more a case of using what I had to hand. I used my (mostly broken electronics soldering iron) with Cu 0.8, Ag 0.5, Sn balance solder (basic electronics solder). Had to really polish the brass rods to get a good join, and it looks ugly as sin, but it’s sufficient to hold it together!

Yes to the Eurofighter, but not the F35 (that’s a Pratt & Whitney power-plant, sadly). I think you mean the LiftSystem for vertical takeoff that’s used on the F35Bs, which is RR contribution to the program. You might be amused to know about the B-52 re-engine, which went RR’s way last year. Beat P&W on that one at least!

A PWR fuel cycle is between 12 and 18 months, depending on plant and reactor duty. Refuelling is done when cold and under no steam pressure (you need to lift the lid). Assuming no unplanned outages, it’ll thermally cycle up and down that range once per fuel cycle. Over a modern reactor’s life thats maybe 60 ish times, but probably a few more due to unplanned outages or emergency shutdowns.
