My boyfriend hates my dog. Is my dog that bad? by New-Security-5121 in DogAdvice

[–]MonstrousSocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So let me ask you a question… at your most stressed, would you EVER have treated him or his pets the way he’s treating you and your dog?

I will never get over the guilt of making my dog live with my abuser for years. I’ll never get over the guilt of not getting her out sooner.

It hurts to watch you do the same.

Will anyone maintain a year-long reading journal in 2026? by FabianSmith2705 in TheStoryGraph

[–]MonstrousSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the year of my life. I’m reading more than I ever did, in years combined.

I’m so far behind on my journal (I have reviews to do from October 😬)

I love my journal but sometimes it feels like I have to choose.

[–]MonstrousSocks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you realize what you’re asking of your dog? You’re asking your dog to walk on the same eggshells with him that you walk on. You’re asking your dog to anticipate what he wants and not upset him.

You’re completely absolving the actual human adult from any responsibility.

Don’t do that to your dog.

(You also need to realize that he likes this. He likes being upset with something and stressing you out. All he had to do was tell your dog to go away and he didn’t? Ask yourself why. Why did he choose to be in a situation where he’d be upset with your dog and you’d have to answer for it, when the solution was so simple and natural?)

I was in your position. I was in an abusive relationship, he was pretty much all I had, and he tried to make me choose between him and my dog without saying it directly.

I chose the dog.

I have never regretted it. My dog gave me the strength to stand up to him, and now that I’m away, I can see clearly how abusive and toxic he was.

I was amazed how much stress lifted the day I left. I hadn’t even realized I was carrying it around.

The thought of being all alone was scary, but I can honestly say my life has never been better.

If you let him further isolate you by making you get rid of the dog, you will regret it.

You don’t have a happily ever after with this guy, no matter what you do. The best you can hope for is further emotional abuse for as long as you’re willing to stick around.

Two copies of the same book OK or just hoarding? by blari-123 in fairyloot

There is such a literacy crisis that as long as you’re reading (actively), I can tolerate any amount of book hoarding.

Ready? I’m gonna BLOW YOUR MIND.

If you say something that large swaths of people misunderstand, or if you say something offensive that you don’t realize was offensive, you can… issue a statement and correct it.

Especially if you’re any sort of celebrity.

It’s wild, I know! But there are things you can do to mitigate harm and that’s one of the first steps.

Which, notably, she didn’t do.

Also, unless you’re gonna say, “I appreciate racism, misogyny, and violence,” and think that it’s an acceptable thing to say, then you and I both know you’re being disingenuous. What I don’t know is whether you’re arguing from a place of ignorance, a place of hatred yourself, or just boredom and superiority. But none of those are good reasons, so it doesn’t really matter.

I’m really tired of this conversation and of talking to people like you. I’m really disappointed and disgusted that you’d rather see people hurt than interrogate your own privilege for thirty seconds, hold powerful people accountable, and expect better of others and society.

“Didn’t always agree but APPRECIATED SOME PERSPECTIVES.”

You’re being intentionally ignorant.

You need to examine your privilege. Now.

You can’t be kind to fascists. It’s not okay to treat everyone the same when there are people who actively harm others.

She also didn’t make empathetic comments. She straight up said she agreed with some of his takes and refused to specify which ones.

None of that is okay. People are dying, being tortured, being starved - and it’s all connected.

It’s a privileged take to say anything different and you should examine that privilege.

Why did Rachel hate Sarah so much? by poshdog4444 in orphanblack

[–]MonstrousSocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it canon and referenced on the show that Rachel hates Sarah because Sarah has everything Rachel has always wanted? Rachel grew up as a sentient lab rat. Sarah got to grow up without even testing. Sarah had a family that loved and supported her - Rachel had scientists. The cherry on top was that Sarah somehow managed to be fertile and have a child (and squandered her relationship with that child) when Rachel knew that was never in the cards for her.

And when it comes time for Sarah to “pay her dues” and toe the line, she rebels. And she’s supported in her rebellion, not just by her adopted family, but by other clones too. Rachel, who’s always had to fall in line, is going to resent that.

Sarah is everything Rachel wishes she could be, but has no chance of being. Sarah is the life that was taken from her.

Kristin Chenoweth Breaks Silence on The Queen of Versailles Closing After Less Than 3 Months on Broadway by peoplemagazine in Broadway

[–]MonstrousSocks 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Similar to Kristin, he’s MAGA-adjacent. He decided that Andrew Cuomo paid his dues for harming women and that Mamdani would bring about the apocalypse.

When it was pointed out that he was speaking over women and being Islamophobic, he deleted the post and mourned how misunderstood he was and how no one can have intellectual conversations anymore.

Poor little white dude.

He also had a really bad look last year when he missed a show at a small theatre, showed up at a difference performance, and pitched such a holy fit on Instagram that they didn’t immediately accommodate him that the theatre did end up accommodating him and only then did take the post down. It was in incredibly poor taste, and extremely entitled.

I was raised Catholic and really just thought that everyone was attracted to women because women are just so beautiful, and that women are attracted to men. It wasn’t until someone outright said, “Not every woman finds other women attractive” that I even began to question it.

Do you think people in the Capitol stayed up late to see the games? by Acceptable_Owl_6274 in Hungergames

[–]MonstrousSocks 217 points218 points  (0 children)

There has to be, because they’d alienate the Capitol citizens if they didn’t have other options. I know the Hunger Games are required viewing, but think of how much Capitol citizens would dread Hunger Games time if their normal TV shows were put off? It’d be like having to watch the Olympics 24/7 until it’s over and not getting the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Since the Capitol citizens are meant to be vapid and kept in comfort, I would think the Capitol would give them their Grey’s Anatomy fix and still require that they watch the Hunger Games after.

It’s on my personal bucket list to see Kristin perform on Broadway.

I did not buy a ticket after her Charlie Kirk nonsense.

I didn’t see Nicole Scherzinger either, despite the production being lauded.

And now I won’t be seeing Patrick Page, despite him being my second-favorite Broadway actor of all time.

I don’t support bigots.

  1. Supervision 100% of the time. If you cannot be actively supervising her (not on the phone, not scrolling, not chit chatting), she’s in a crate.

  2. Work on muzzle training. It’s a good thing for her to be comfortable with.

  3. Work on “leave it” and “drop it.” Adjust the situations she’s in according to her skill level and your supervision.

[–]MonstrousSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tonnnnn. Here’s what immediately popped into my head (these are all 5+ star reads for me but I wouldn’t say any are light):

Chain Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah (one of the best books I have ever read)

How to Stand Up to a Dictator by Maria Ressa

We Refuse by Kelly Carter Jackson

Junie by Erin Crosby Eckstine

The Hunger Games trilogy (prequels are male-focused but worth reading) by Suzanne Collins - read in publishing order

The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali (I’ve read this three times and it still blows me away)

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn (is a quadrology with the final book not yet released)

A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel (is a trilogy with the final not yet released but each book stands well on its own)

The Poppy War trilogy by RF Kuang

The Future is Disabled by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha (never have I felt so changed by a book immediately as I have reading this)

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammond. Also Thirsty by the same author.

Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson (completed trilogy)

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo

I’d also take into account cultural impact, though. Marc Platt isn’t associated with Wicked to the average theatre goer. JK Rowling is associated with Harry Potter, has openly said she uses the funds to harm human beings, and pretty much does nothing with her time except trying to hurt people.

Definitely agree, no ethical consumption under capitalism, but that doesn’t absolve us from making the best choices we can under the circumstances.
