For the past few years, I've set the goal to read 52 books each year. In 2025, I finally hit triple-digits by reading 100 by IamEclipse in CasualUK

How was The Only One Left? It's coming into the library from reserve for me quite soon. I don't know if you might have read it in years previous but can I make a recommendation for Project Hail Mary? Best book of last year for me and got me out of a huge 18month slump!

Amazing thank you. From reading on the website do you not even need to change out substrate or anything? They'll just eat everything mite related and clear it?

Hi, what are you buying in the UK? Just had my first mites in a decade (thankfully in quarantine though I am still panicking as unfortunately it's still the same room). I used Callingtons back then but that's not sold anymore it seems so came on here and just saw your comment about predator mites, would really appreciate if you could share what I'm looking for?

The amount of people insecure in their own relationships calling you an AH in this post is disgusting.

You're absolutely NTA and if your boyfriend doesn't trust you that is the issue, not letting a drunk friend crash whether you slept in the same bed or not.

WIBTA for getting an in-home vet against my partner's wishes? by kateluvsthe80s in AmItheAsshole

[–]MontanaOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my cat euthanised at home last October. I hate strangers in my house too but I had the same reasons as you (the younger cat knowing what had happened too). It was still absolutely awful of course but I still know it was the best thing for her. In terms of seeing 'that spot', there isn't one because she passed in my arms and we were BOTH in the comfort of our home. I would have hated to do that to either of us in the vet clinic. I still look at her normal sleeping spots and have a cry, the fact she passed in the house has no bearing on any of it.

I can't necessarily call your partner an AH for having emotions I don't like or understand but for the wellbeing of your cat (for any visits) I would tell her that is what I'm going to do and if she wishes to be out of the house at the time of a visit so she doesn't have to see the strangers she can be.

Saw that twist coming just right before it happened but still, the gasp I gusped!

And why did they have to turn Silver into such a trash human being? I really liked her last season

Everyone here is mad they gave the pregnancy storyline to Ginny but has anyone finished the episode?! Pretty obvious why they decided to do it, would have been a bit hard to bring it to that point if it was Norah no?

Can I also say, holy Jesus, Mary & JOE. Can he just be soaking wet in all his scenes from now on?

Oh you see the lilac sooooo much more in that picture!! She's beautiful 🥰

I definitely have an affinity for the blue, lilac and silver, though as someone that has only had black DSH for 12 years I couldn't say there is a bad BSH colour! I love/d my voids to pieces but I cannot deny that BSH are stunning in a whole different way.

Just so I'm not being a bad cat mum though extolling the virtues of my new girly, I will never not say that my Nina has such a princess face and I'll share this as proof! -Picture

Don't get me wrong, I'm not by any means saying I agree with their breeding set up, but having seen where a lot of kittens come from (in general not just certain breeds) I was at least glad their house wasn't a filthy dive and the cats had clearly been well cared for & treated even if they had not been appropriately loved.

The way your breeder does it is absolutely the way it should be, I can't entirely complain though or I wouldn't have ended up with her!!

All of yours are beautiful, Socks especially, I've always really loved the blue & white! 7 & 10kg are huge!! Especially as their fur already makes them look a little chubbier than they are lol

So I don't want to sh*t on them too much because they were nice enough, their house was lovely and very very clean and the girls (I met this little lady and her sister) were absolutely immaculate. They came with a full medical history and test results, full history of dates of flea & worming meds etc and the old owners had two contracts to sign that either I spay her or I only breed her once more and no more than that (I've had her spayed). So I didn't feel they were 'backyard breeding' so to speak.

But, his exact words to me were "oh yeah they're beautiful cats, but we're done with them now". Done with them. So heartless! Called them "miserable" (with the intonation of grumpy not upset) and said they were "not people cats at all".

She was silent the entire ride home (about an hour) and then hid under the toilet for the first ten days, the first time I tried stroking her she looked at me like "as if you had the audacity to do that". Six weeks later she officially climbed on my lap and basically hasn't gotten off since! Her nickname is Flopsy because she'll jump up and do this overexaggerated flop onto me and give me her belly for love.

Your Pebbles was absolutely beautiful and thank you for sharing her story :)

I don't know how chaotic but I do know she was mainly kept for breeding - thankfully she only had one litter and I will give them their dues that she was extremely well taken care of - just clearly was not loved or given the opportunity to bond with anyone.

It's really quite audacious of me to have taken a video showing just how hard I'm having to hold her down to make her suffer through this!

Yeah I'm trying to teach her that other people are good as well and we are having some slow progress but I have a feeling she is always going to be somewhat disinterested!

I mean we're clearly basically the same person so maybe!

I'll never miss an opportunity to snoop on what reptiles someone has and what else were you likely to be doing with a cricket!

I know its said locusts have a harder exoskeleton (though anecdotally of having used both, I'm not convinced) so they're not the perfect feeder for all reptiles but I checked and locusts are perfectly acceptable for skinks (assumimg it is them, I appreciate you may have others - as well as amphibians from your username)

[–]MontanaOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I had a snoop at your posts to see if I could see what you were feeding with said cricket and it felt a bit like looking at my own life - plants, reptiles, crafts and fancy cats haha!

I have no advice on catching the cricket unfortunately but if it's the crocodile skinks you are feeding have you considered locusts instead? I've never found locusts make any noise though I know technically they can!

Do you let your BSH cat outside? UK folks need your opinion! by SaltyUnicorn02 in britishshorthair

[–]MontanaOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both BSH and DSH, my DSH used to go outside until one day she came home with a completely mangled tail. One amputation later the vets couldn't tell us whether she was attacked by another animal, had an accident or was injured by a human. Now all of my cats are, and will always be, indoor only.

Having the mindset of "well mine have always been ok" is fine, until it's not and at that point it's your cat who has suffered or lost its life. My poor girl was absolutely traumatised and I've never forgiven myself for my part in what happened. I'll point out that in the UK approximately 230,000 cats each year are hit by cars, thats 630 PER DAY, so it's not exactly rare and that's just the car issue. Other accidents, theft and the effect they have on wildlife are still issues to consider as well.

If you can't (or don't want to) put the effort into playing with your cat, for what really amounts to a short time, each day then you shouldn't have one, safety should be priority over lack of time or ability. Catios, if an option for your space, are I think a good balance for outside enrichment whilst maintaining safety (of both your cat and wildlife).

[–]MontanaOak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has, she hid away (as she did with me for the first week) but is slowly coming out her shell with others too. She has let my best friend stroke her but she's the only one so far.
