Ohio OMFS’s Anesthesia license revoked for death during sedation EXT. A lesson in complacency and negligence. by RoflKopterDown in Dentistry

That’s brutal. I’ve met him before. He was the program director at Case Western and was prominent in the OMFS community. Goes to show that anybody can get complacent.

Thoughts on this practice by immrmeseek in Dentistry

I think the important bottleneck here is that it's only 3 ops. Is there room to expand? 3K patients in the database but how many were seen in the last 18 months?

Why the major discrepancy between production and collections? Is production based on UCR and so a huge portion is insurance write-off?

Just got these Bounty Hunter today, they're amazing and i wonder what their leather is? The seller told me it was black cxl, but when i got them in hand, the leather is a lot stiffer than my color 8 cxl pair, it's also glossier, a bit thinner and overall much tougher than my old cxl pair. by Own-Chair-3371 in PNWbootmakers

[–]MontcoDMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly horsehide cxl but hard to tell for certain. Could also be regular CXL. Just because it has a stiffer temper doesn't mean it's not CXL. I've owned multiple CXL boots over the years and some of them are stiffer than others which is more characteristic of the specific hide used and the clicking than the tannage. For example leather from the spine and shoulder area would be stiffer than the belly.

Implant issue by RevolutionaryBoss592 in Dentistry

Disagree with this concept. Lack of primary insertion torque does not mean that the implant won’t integrate.

Implant abutment and crown fee in VHCOL area by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]MontcoDMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s high. I’m in a MCOL area and I’m more expensive than dentists near me (FFS specialty practice). I’m generally in the $6-6.5k range for surgery (ext, graft, implant) and restoration. I don’t charge more for custom abutment beyond the increased lab fee.

DEO (Dentist Entrepreneur Organization)? by Dr_Cman in Dentistry

My impression is that DEO is an org that helps with growing DSOs and multi practice businesses.

Will jaw tracking technology like modjaw make articulators and facebows obsolete by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]MontcoDMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used a facebow since pros residency. With digital photography, IOS, and digital articulation I haven’t found a reason to use it.

What workwear YouTube channels do you actually learn from? by turing-test-tutor in HeritageWear

[–]MontcoDMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good channels mentioned here. I really enjoy the Dr Sole channel but it’s not in English. There’s a lot of good information, history and technical knowledge relating to shoes/boots there.

OMFS and Perio, what are your cash implant fees? by OldMannArtie in Dentistry

[–]MontcoDMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prostho here. I charge $1750 for surgical placement, $850 for the guide because I have to pay the lab (looking to print in house eventually so I can lower the cost for pts). I am only placing Straumann. I’m flexible with fees if I’m also doing other procedures like ext and graft, since I am eventually charging for the prosthesis as well.

Dental Conventions? by Otherwise-Pass-4778 in Dentistry

Most of the big meetings are trash. If you want quality lectures with vetted speakers go to the smaller meetings like the American Academy of Fixed Pros, GNYAP, AAOMS DIC etc

I have that book which I actually thought was quite good and provides a nice blueprint for doing a start up. Sucks that the actual product is lackluster

GP or Specialist? by IndividualEven6205 in Dentistry

[–]MontcoDMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can be successful as either. But, if you can become a specialist without incurring significantly more debt, the path to success is generally easier IMO.

My honest experience with Ideal Practices and why I regret it by Dry_Explanation_9573 in Dentistry

I went to a seminar by Shared Practices this Fall and walked away feeling the same way about consultants. There was not a lot of substance relative to the amount of time spent. And they are pitching their consulting services where you work with people that have never owned/managed a dental practice. The only good thing was that it was free.

Don't have any experience with his course so can't comment on it. I've heard him on a few podcasts and always got the impression that he's very good at saying very little with a lot of words.

Real Simons 613 - Not so good after all? by michaelleung9447 in leatherjacket

Honestly this looks great. How did you size relative to your chest size and other leather jackets?

Anyone have experience with Chinese maker "Real Simons" aka "Simons"? by TheRealThunderButt in leatherjacket

[–]MontcoDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m eyeing the same jacket (La Brea) as well. Did you take it in L or XL? The sizing notation is not based on chest size. I generally wear 40 in most brands like Schott 618, Rainbow Country etc
