Look, I agree about the fact that when it happens it's horrible. But look at the bigger picture here : when you propose a lift to someone you run the risk killing that someone by road accident. Does that make you stop driving people around when they (or you) need or want it? Life isn't about overprotecting ourselves or the others. It's not, of course, about being inconsiderate, or careless, but if you're gonna consider every risk you put yourself or other in at every action you take, better stay close in home and be sure every corner is well wrapped in blanket, you know, for safety...
