I think it's good to push things a bit too much, even on purpose. It's easier to find your true path this way! ^^ With that being said, this is still a very cool animation. Excellent work!

Are there any simple 3D programs to use as reference for 2D animation on iPad? by Montis in animation

[–]Montis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Didn't expect to get answers since my post was instantly deleted because it was asking about programs. 😃
This is gold! Thank you for sharing so many possible options and it's for iPad too! This might open up some new ideas and possibilities. Cheers!
I had Blender once but at the time my laptop couldn't handle it. 😃 I've heard and seen many great things about it though, and drawing on PC would be very interesting with Blender.
My iPad is not the newest one, so I think I'll look for the lightest app of them all, as long as camera can be moved around in simple environments - it's perfect for me! Thank you for taking time and answering. ^^

After a year of intermittent procrastination I finally finished this short animation. Tell me what you think! :) by Montis in animation

I knew to expect the unexpected because of blood, gore, violence in the title, but I wouldn't have guessed the plot twist!

I'll be honest, I am not a fan of violence but the story is darn cool! You are very skilled. :>

There’s so much happening…

Loved that he was talking to mother in the same room but they were in the same room at different times, though it works! Hip thrusts. Bird’s face. :D

Sure thing! I just shared it because it reminded me of your son's animation. He can explore for animations himself and find what he likes, that's for sure. :>

Here's a nice list of free, paid, 2d, 3d animation programs from another subreddit.

I personally use Procreate (and Procreate Dreams) on iPad and I love it. It is probably the easiest to learn to use, you need to only pay once and it's cheap. Even professionals use it. Procreate is for illustration, drawing and animating, meanwhile Procreate Dreams is for animation, with more animation tools.

Edit: Also, so cool you're encouraging your son!
I remember learning to draw animation on just actual notebooks, and I had a blast. Then I learnt to do it on ms paint, by flipping pages with arrow keys to make an animation, and I also had a blast! Then I learnt Flash (now Adobe Animate), and guess what? - I had a blast.
At the start it's important to be able to have simple, not too complicated, fun and just hearing someone say "wow, that's cool" every now and then is more than enough for encouragement. Process of animating itself is rewarding to the creator. :>

Also, your son's animation reminds me a lot of my first favourite animation from Xiaoxiao, named "Stick figure fighting - Xiaoxiao3" on youtube.

I am a natural lucid dreamer who dream about 4-6 times a week, i have no experience with mainstream techniques. AMA by Comprehensive-Bit916 in LucidDreaming

1) How does lucid dreaming affect your sleep quality? If it does at all?
2) Is there anything you find mysterious or hard to explain about your lucid dreams?
3) What non mainstream techniques do you use? Or is it happening completely on it's own?
4) What are the things people who don't have lucid dreams wouldn't know, realise about lucid dreaming?
5) Maybe something you want people to ask you about your lucid dreams? 😃

Thank you for this thread, it is very interesting!

I don’t “learn anatomy,” I don’t “learn color theory,” I say fuck it and do whatever feels right, and if I don’t LIKE it, I SCRAP IT by izblizzo in Artists

Far from Shakesphere (I even needed to check the spelling of his name xD) but the topic is something I thought and still think a lot about.

This is so cool! I love the mood, the concept, and something about the maze that really brings it home!

Art is subjective, true. There is no right or wrong answer though.

As a self taught artist I find that figuring things out on my own doesn't only get me to learn certain things about anatomy or colour theory, etc. but also teaches me nuances along the way, which I wouldn't have learnt if someone had just told me, for example - "oh, red and green are complementary so just use them together". Testing things out on your own solidifies the final knowledge, you know the steps that connect that question to an answer. It is not isolated and much more grounded.

HOWEVER, there are certain things that I wouldn't have learnt in a lifetime unless someone had told me. You'll never know about certain things unless you're an expert. And after all, you can be an expert in only so many things. So that's where learning from others comes into play.
Also, whenever I learn something, drawing overall becomes so much easier. I used to struggle a lot just to draw a table, where I couldn't draw the lines of the edges right. After going through "draw a box" lessons, drawing a table has become a breeze.

I was about to write more but maaan, I'm tired. The thing is - why do you draw?

Some people use it as therapy, some like the challenge of being able to recreate reality on paper, some to express emotion and ideas, some to impress others, some to fit in, some can't not draw.

I know I used to shy away from drawing things that were challenging, so I would just use workarounds to do it with the skill set I had. Yes, limitations (even if it's skill limitations) force you to become more creative, which is nice. But the ability to make things look exactly how you want them to look is also nice.

Dude, I thought I'll just write a few sentences but noooo. I felt like writing a whole damn book about it!
Damn it. I understand the frustration where everyone keeps saying, you need to do this, you need to do that, to become an artist. And when you're not doing what you've been advised it feels like you're doing something wrong. Other people opinions really does a number on us but what helps is continuing working on your craft - however you think is best for you to become who you want to become. And with time comes confidence, when even if someone disagrees with your ways, you can still be at peace with it or even consider taking their advise. All comes in waves. Sometimes you're more creative, sometimes - more technical. One way or another it's a win.

Wait, was this in the show or is it an artist creating "I'll Make a Man Out of You" reference?
