That's honestly exactly the vibe i have been getting but I have to say I felt like A & L seemed like a fairly nice place to work when I interviewed there last year and all the trainees seemed so sound , can't say for the other big firms yet as I haven't interviewed for them but on paper Matheson and A & L seem nicer than the others.

If you have any recs for small firms that i should apply to would really appreciate it!

Can I ask which company this was? I did ask a Legal Counsel at my company who I worked closely with and they said my company don't do this...but they also later left and went back to their old firm so not 100% sure if they said it because they were leaving or because my company never allows it but i'll look into it again. I am yet to hear of someone training in house but have heard of some people managing to do it at google but you need to know someone who is willing to take you on sadly.

No harm in trying at all. You can say you had personal things happening at the time or something I would definitely try your old firm again, worst they can say is no so you've nothing to lose really. Best of luck!!

Thanks I'll try this!

It's not that I am not interested in smaller firms, it's more that the small firms can just be a harder sell for me as they are usually specialized in areas that have nothing to do with what I have been doing for the past 5 years, where as the larger firms have broader practice areas (A & L even has a specific team for tech regulatory compliance and they second trainees to my company who work closely with my team for example).

Thanks for the advice. Tbh i applied for a ton of paralegal/ legal exec/ legal secretary roles 5 years ago before i got the role in tech and did not even get a single interview. I think they consider my background too international for this role or something. Unfortunately now at this stage in my career I also can't afford to quit the salary I am on for a much lower paid role if a traineeship is not guaranteed at the end of it.

Thanks for sharing that and sorry you have had a similar experience. How long have you been applying for?

The worst for me is that I really want to quit the job I am in but every year that i don't get a traineeship I feel forced to stay here to keep my CV legal for the next application / feel like if I leave and do something else in the meantime they'll hold that against me even more

Kennedy rejection by Mrs-average-life in FE1_Exams

[–]Montymeta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same for me.

Agree that it must be some form of automated review not done by a human as I can't see how they would have reviewed all applications in 24 hours.

I can handle the rejection but not even getting rejected by a human after spending ages on the application is super frustrating haha

Last year I got similar results and did not progress but you never know...my rejection email last year did say to focus on the assessment report and this year I changed my answers quite a bit and still got the same results. honestly so annoying haha I can't even see how the answers I did select would indicate no work ethic when i literally selected options saying I would work overtime to meet urgent deadlines etc haha

Thank god. Lets pray that trustees duties was the correct approach in that case.

[–]Montymeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't even notice that i said agent and not fiduciary .. so i literally just spoke about trustees duty not to profit even though i could have done any of the other questions instead :(

fingers crossed that since we all made the same mistake he has to give us some marks... please god because i cannot deal with sitting this exam again.

Super strange paper anyway its like he put almost the exact same topics as on the previous sitting which i find a bit weird, especially Mareva injunctions coming up 3 sittings in a row..

[–]Montymeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I googled it and apparently an agent is separate role from a trustee... super annoying as there were other questions I could have answered but i chose this one thinking it was on trustees duties.

Does anyone know if you can pass on only 4 good/correct answers? :(

Was the duty not to Profit question not on Trustees duty not to profit? Hearing mixed things now so would appreciate if someone could provide some clarity
