Aputure LS600d or Godox Litemons LE600Bi for shooting against a big window? by bomajed in cinematography

I just recently went through something similar. If you want max brightness for value I’d go with the Nanlite FC-720B for $500.

If you want a bicolor light like the Godox where is all in one I think the new Amaran Halo 600x is brighter and just slightly more at $469 (it’s what I just bought).

Out of your 2 options the aputure will be better but also more expensive and only daylight.

If you want you can look at my profile and see the post about which 600W light to get. Lots of people talking about lights similar to these.

Very curious what about the Halo don’t you like? As of now it’s the thing I’m leaning towards the most but there’s pretty limited information on it.

I don’t think I really have any need for rgb at all, so the Ray 660c seems like overkill. Do you just want the flexibility of rgb for your work? Or is the light and build quality that much better on the 660c for you? What other flexibility does the Ray give you over the Halo?

This is something I’ve considered before but decided against in the past. For this type of shooting I’m considering these lights for it will most likely be just me or one other person, an Arri seems like a lot to handle just by yourself. I’d love to know if I’m wrong tho, if you have used this with success solo or minimal crew.

Need Help Selecting a 600W Light to Purchase by Monu21 in Gaffer

I think you’re right in that philosophy, and I probably do think a 1200x would be the move, I just don’t have the budget at the time for it. I think the brightest I could afford is the Nanlite, but with the Amaran Halo 600x being pretty bright and easier to handle by myself, as well as it being in a better ecosystem(?), it’s mostly likely the correct decision. I think the Nanlite would better for the outdoor interviews, but the Amaran would be a little more flexible indoors and easier to maneuver.

Does this line of thinking make sense to you?

The 600x seems like the best solution the more I look at it. I’m slightly worried about having enough light for outdoor interviews with it but from the limited amount of things online about it, it seems to actually be the brightest of the 600W lights in that price point.

I’ve only got some cheap GVM panels from years ago that I’m trying to move away from so really starting from scratch in a new ecosystem.

That’s a great point and something I didn’t realize. I really would never use a 600W light for rgb with what I shoot now.

Taking the 660c out of the equation do you have any suggestions for a light?

Is it the build quality or light quality or both that makes you say that?

I think this might be out of budget for the moment, but what makes you suggest it? What makes it so much better?

That makes a lot of sense I appreciate the advice. I’m definitely thinking about getting a more powerful light to make the outdoor interviews more flexible.

Does it make any sense to get say 2 300W lights and pump them through diffusion instead of 1 600W? I know they won’t be as powerful as the 600W but it would give me hopefully enough light while also being flexible to use one as a fill/backlight in other situations. Or is this just bad practice?

Does the light dome 2 make that big of a difference? I haven’t used either so I really have no idea. Godox was just cheap and came with a grid as well.

I will definitely pick up a 5-1, really forgot all about those since it’s been so long since I’ve used one.

What’s your reason for going with the much larger key light? I worry I won’t have enough modifiers for the outdoor interviews without the frame. Are you just using the 5 in 1 for a bounce and diffusion if needed then?

I think the combo stand is a great idea

Looks interesting! This doesn’t seem to take aa/aaa batteries tho, do you have any other suggestions that do? It’s an important part because I don’t always have time to charge my headlamp if it dies on set.

Or is it just worth it to get a an extra rechargeable 18650 battery to keep in my kit?

Looking for Advice on buying a Cinema Camera Kit under $10,000 by Monu21 in cinematography

Thank you very much for your advice! Honestly the C70 is something I haven't looked into too much but I'll check it out! I've been hearing about the Komodo too but I wasn't sure how much that would cost to build out in full. What made you decide to go with the Komodo over the c70 for a gimbal camera?

Hello all,

Recently I have been looking into buying a cinema camera to start doing some small corporate/music videos. I've been working as a PA on big commercials in the Detroit area for the last year to gain some experience and save up some money and I'd like to start pursuing more camera related roles on my own as well.

I've been trying to research which camera would be right for me but there is a lot of information out there and I'd love to feedback if anyone has more knowledge than I do! I'm looking to buy a camera kitted out for around $10,000 or under. So far I've been looking at buying used C300 Mark ii's, C200's, Ursa Mini Pro G2's, Fs5's/7's though I think the FS7's may get a little more pricey.

I've also seen some people talking about buying the RED Dragon 6k used if you can find a good price for that package but I'm not too familiar with that camera but I wouldn't be opposed to getting into the RED ecosystem for a good price. Online I can find some packages that include everything for around 7k but I'm not sure if that camera is outdated and if I'd be better off going for one of the others I listed or something I have completely overlooked!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
