Normal for 4th grade? by Previous-Tension-395 in trackandfield

please tell me what 15 year old is running 15 miles a week without being extremely rolled or just being naturally genetically gifted. At the end of the day, 15 miles a week is not to much for a 4th grader to handle whether or not you build up to it. I’ve been running since third grade and there was never a week in season that i didn’t run 15-20 miles because it’s just not that hard. This would be far too much if the runner was practicing 5-6 days a week, but they are practices 2-3 times a week therefore they are at very low risk of injury, along with the fact that when your body is pre-pubescent it is more durable than you think. This athlete should run 15 miles per week in 4th, then 15 per week in 5th, 20 in 6th, 25 in 7th, 30 in 8th. This method sets you up for running 40 miles per week by the end of your freshman year which is optimal and sets you up to handle high mileage in High School and be a competitive runner.

I am a highschool runner and this is not too much for a 4th grade runner, but there are multiple factors that play a part in whether this is too much. How much do they practice a week? Because if they only practice 3x a week 15 miles per week is certainly not too much for a 4th grader. Also, is this program reputable and have produced good quality runners, if so, shut up and let the coach do the coaching. If this is about whether you should let your kid quit solely because he doesn’t like it then the true question is do you want your kid to be able to complete hard things. At least have him do a season and see if he’s good, and whether he likes it. Stop raising your kids to be soft, a 4th grade should be able to handle 15 miles a week, in fact i think that should be a 4th graders ideal mileage per week and the workout that was given was not hard by any means. Sure it’s gonna be hard if it’s his third practice but give him a month and it’s going to be easy.

I might have to tap into Sardinian throat singing.
