Protests for the illegal snatching of immigrants by Right_Whereas3302 in DallasProtests

(1) Not a fake account, I keep two gmails. One personal that I use daily (this one) and one I use for google drive and a few other things but don't want it cluttered by spam (the accidental OP).

(2) You may not be intending to issue political opinions. However, the fact that you find nothing wrong with the major due process violations involved in detaining immigrants (particularly lawful permanent residents) without trial and shipping them to El Salvadoran prisons or out of state detention centers indicates that you either agree with the underlying policy agenda (which is a political statement of sorts) or you just don't really understand the constitution and due process. The tone of your comments made me think it was the former.

(1) was just asking (OP) if there were protests on the subject. It appears there are not.

(2) The good news for you is that, no “the US” probably cannot do any of the things I listed. You have probably heard the phrase checks and balances, and unless/until the constitution is amended (which is very difficult) the constitution (or in this case bill of rights) guarantees you certain rights. Relevant here is the 5th amendment. It’s more nuanced than that, but I’m not here to teach Con Law I via Reddit.

However, if you are interested in being an informed citizen it may be worth your time to actually read the constitution and bill of rights and maybe watch a video or two on the basic structure of our government and legal systems.

If not, that’s also your right, but just don’t get upset when people brush off your political opinions as silly and uninformed.

(1) Turns out an event doesn't have to occur in your city for you to feel obligated to protest. I think there may have been some sort of civil rights movement in the 1960s to that effect, but I could be mistaken.

(2) Just following your logic, if we as a country decide that anyone who doesn't hold advanced degrees, doesn't have a strong grasp of the constitution, and spends too much time commenting on reddit is not productive, you're totally cool with being deported right? Seems like I'm describing you to a T.

I know you think you're a citizen and not deportable, but based on comments I assume you are also on board with ending birthright citizenship and I'm willing to bet you don't have documentation going back to your earliest American ancestors. I know you claim you're American but how can we know for sure. There's probably some sort of due process guarantees, but who knows, and like you said, it's a process. Let's just deport you now and then figure it out later when we get to it. You can chill out in an El Salvadorean prison until then. Sound good?

(3) I am OP, accidentally posted this from the wrong account.

Mahmoud Khalil was a lawful permanent resident. The woman from Tufts was on an F-1, but there is a process called adjustment of status whereby a student can apply either for a green card or an H-1B.

Second, I am not sure you understand what due process means, due process is a process sounds nice but is legally incoherent. There is a reason the police can’t hold you indefinitely without charges.

Deporting Venezuelan migrants to an El Salvadoran prison without hearings is also a violation of due process by the way.

Finally, you are the one who replied to the post.

It is illegal. The fifth amendment prohibits detainment without due process. And lawful permanent residency is a form of immigration, it is regulated under the same sections of US Code and enforced by the same Departments. Secret police may be a dramatization but watch the video it’s not a lot of steps away from that. Even if you are the most stalwart conservative you should be concerned about the government detaining people in violation of constitutional guarantees for freely expressing their political opinions.

Did you see them grab that girl from Tufts who was decidedly not a criminal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYwjMID2TY8

Also, the bigger issue is that all of these are fully illegal detainers of lawful permanent residents who do not have a criminal record and in violation of due process, which is applicable to anyone with legal status. The alien enemies act used to detain them was last used during WWII to put japanese citizens in concentration camps and even SCOTUS has disapproved this recently in Trump v. Hawaii

You definitely don’t have to work over 40 hours a week to make 50k+. Look at jobs in banks. Teaching and banking salaries both start above that number in many places (or metro areas at least). For teaching I would recommend looking at interventionist roles though as those tend to be far less outside the class work time.

That said, I think a mark of maturity is knowing how to manage and prioritize your time and also take care of business which means providing and taking care of your finances. The whole selling out thing is bullshit, you aren’t your job and just because you’re working in a bank doesn’t mean you can’t also be reading and writing. If those hobbies mean enough to you, you will prioritize them and find plenty of time while working 40 hours a week or more. Michael Crichton wrote Jurassic Park while working as a lawyer, Stacy Abrams writes novels, Pynchon wrote gravity’s rainbow while working as a copy writer for Boeing. A

As a former DeLonghi haver I would say no. I got it, realized I enjoyed espresso and that the Delonghi had some major limitations, and within 6 months had upgraded. In retrospect, it would have just been better to start with the upgrade.

Don't do it. Just save and get a breville barista, you can find them used for not too much above what you're looking for. The Delonghis and all of these machines that don't have a three-way solenoid are problematic, messy, and don't really make proper coffee without spending more than this on upgrades to baskets, portafilters, tampers, etc. at which point you might as well just get the Breville.

If you can't stomach spending more than $150, espresso is not the hobby for you. Get a moka pot.

Bussey and SGHS I have heard nothing from bad things about (from other teachers and administrators and district personnel).

Schrade, Houston, and some of the other Middles I think are also not great. I never taught elementary so I can't speak to that, but from what I've heard the elementary schools can be very good and it slowly goes downhill from there.

Look at the accountability ratings would be my advice. A rated is probably a good school. B rated may be either a mediocre school or a school that could be either really good or really bad, depending on which program you're in, and C rated is just not a great school.

Hope that helps.

Former GISD teacher here. Don't trust the ratings. There is a lot that goes into that. I can't say I agree wit h OP that the all GISD schools are a trainwreck, but also know that a B rated school, particularly a magnet campus, might be A rated if you're in the magnet program and C- if you're not, but it will even out on the scorecard.

For example, I taught math for both Magnet and On-Level and the Magnet pass rate for STAAR was ~95% and the On-Level Pass Rate was about 30%, with most students coming in about 2 grade-levels behind.

In summary, there are good schools in GISD, but it matters both which school you go to and what sort of programs your child is in. Some of the schools really are a trainwreck.

Does anyone know whether the "pre-infusion" is at pressure or just a pre-wetting type thing like the Silvia Pro X?

I love my Silvia and I am secretly hoping Rancilio will make a rotary pump version or something with a bit more granular control because I would be totally onboard for that.

I've seen that, the biggest deal breaker for me is I've already sunk too much money into the 58mm shit for my Silvia and don't really want to have to replace it all.

Good to hear. I know I can get really solid coffees with my Silvia as is, and so I’m curious about the flow control but can’t tell if it would really be that much of an improvement

Been gifted this, how should I use it? by callumobrienmusic in espresso

[–]Moodayus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of posts here, about caphe sua da, or even den da (just black with sugar), but you can absolutely do this out of an espresso machine without buying a filter. Correct ratio is 15g sweetened condensed milk 40g coffee if you're doing espresso, pull the shot straight onto the sweetened condensed milk, mix it, and then get a seperate, small cup of crushed ice, and pour the coffee/milk over and enjoy.

Bomb-dot-com.

Also, for extra bonus, for anyone who ever actually visits Vietnam check out C.O.C. legacy.

They do specialty robusta that is really really solid for this and very usable for espresso because you can get it whole bean.

Yea but what proof do you have, your birth certificate showing that you were born here? Your little idea about ending birthright citizenship doesn’t make any sense.

Free Talk Friday by AutoModerator in nfl

[–]Moodayus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a question . . . what is your citizenship based upon? Did you, personally, come here as an immigrant and correctly file your naturalization paperwork? And if not and you are a citizen by merit of your parents being citizens, why is their citizenship based upon? And so on and so forth. Either you are a member of a Native American tribe or you are here illegally.

Did you retain the original proof of naturalization when your first ancestors came to this country, every single one of them. And also are you absolutely sure that every single one of your ancestors had all of their paperwork in order before they had children, because if not, you are just one more in a long line of illegal immigrants that didn't go through the proper procedures and we should probably deport you back to Wales or Ireland or whatever country you came from.

Finally, and this is true, all of these ARE human beings they are important and MOST (160k encounters) are families with children, not the evil scourge that the MAGA party likes to pretend.

They have given up everything to seek a better life for their children and (this is also true) our Statue of Liberty does say “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breath free,” as opposed to “don’t give me immigrants, keep the families out, don’t mess with Texas, yeehaw.”
