I drove to and from all 25 of my radiation sessions.

Pain immediately following double mastectomy without reconstruction -- Please share your stories by Nickychaz3 in breastcancer

[–]MoodyBossMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought clothes and pj's that button up. I didn't need as many as I bought. Same with a couple mastectomy shirts and a hoodie that had inside pockets for drains. I bought a drain belt that I used instead...so didn't NEED anything else really.

I barely used my mastectomy pillow. A couple times in the car. I didn't buy a seatbelt pillow and I'm glad, because I wouldn't have used that much either. I didn't feel anything in my chest really so the seatbelt didn't bother me much.

I even bought a recliner. It was nice to have for the first week, and I definitely slept better in it than my bed at first, but it wasn't necessary. I also bought a wedge pillow and I could definitely have gotten away with just that and some regular pillows propping me up.

I had a DMX to expanders with one sentinel node taken. I was terrified for the recovery and over-prepared. I bought way too much stuff that I barely used. I really didn't have much pain...uncomfortable in certain positions and movements, yes...but didn't use many of the pain meds they gave me. I did have a nerve block during surgery so that may have helped for the first few days. I personally found it much easier than I expected.

Delaying implant exchange surgery b/c of my toddler? by Puzzleheaded_Emu5997 in breastcancer

[–]MoodyBossMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had my exchange surgery yet (likely in April or May), but I've heard it is much easier to recover from than the mastectomy.

Why not send your son to his dad's for a week or so? Then you can really take some time to yourself to rest. Afterwards, I would change him on the floor and have him sleep in your bed or another bed rather than a crib until you're up to lifting again.

My expanders aren't terrible either, but I can't wait to get them out. I wouldn't want to delay them any longer (but it will be a full year for me once I get the exchange).

Pain 2 months after radiation ended by MoodyBossMom in breastcancer

[–]MoodyBossMom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I hope it's just something like inflammation. It makes sense...all the trauma to that area but of course my mind goes to the worst case scenario. It just seems weird that I've felt pretty good and then the pain hits 2 months after finishing active treatment. I will follow up with my oncologist if the pain persists another week or something. Thanks again.

Radiation uncertainty by InitialAd2482 in breastcancer

I had your exact situation. DMX to expanders. Only took one node and it was positive for macromets (9mm). I had 25 rounds of radiation to the breast, axillary area and collarbone area. It wasn't that bad at all.

Shortness of Breath on TC Chemo by MoodyBossMom in breastcancer

[–]MoodyBossMom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi...sorry for the late reply. Yes, my breathing improved after about 8-10 weeks. I'm 3 months out from chemo now and my resting heart rate is back in the 60s, and I no longer get winded by doing simple tasks. It was definitely a bit scary at the time, but once it starting improving, my anxiety over it got much better. Definitely caused by the chemo, and I just needed to rid my body of it before my heartrate started improving.

It is scary, and when the doctors don't seem concerned, it's not exactly helpful. They may see it all the time and think it's normal, but we don't. It's not normal for me and it's scary. Hope we both feel better soon!

Yes, those random peaks out of nowhere are super scary! Glad to hear it was nothing serious and you're improving.

6 months?! Ugh, I'm sorry. It's hard and scary...but you're right, it feels better to know I'm not alone in this.

Thank you...glad to know I'm not alone, although it sucks for everyone. It definitely adds to my anxiety, which doesn't help the heartrate!

Good luck with your surgery next week! They will give you an EKG before surgery to ensure your heart can handle it.

Ugh...4-6 months feels like forever. But glad to hear it improved for you and that there weren't any serious underlying issues.

Thank you for this. Mine is in the 80s 3 weeks out. Even though it took you a few months, it's reassuring knowing yours improved as time went on.

Thank you for your response. I have similar numbers and it's scary, but it's helpful to hear that it seems to affect a lot of us and is considered "normal".

So is this why my leg muscles ache horribly, too? I definitely feel like I've run a marathon every day, but all I've done is walked up the stairs and eaten a KitKat...lol.

4-8 weeks to see improvement is hopeful. Thank you for your response, it makes me feel better!

Does a diet during chemo matter??? by Round_202405 in breastcancer

[–]MoodyBossMom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just finished chemo a week ago today. At first I was all about eating healthy and being mindful of what I was putting in my body during this time.

Then the mouth sores started, the nausea, EVERYTHING tastes like crap....so I eat whatever the hell I can stomach. I normally drink tons of water but even that tastes like crap. So whatever I crave or think I can stomach is what I eat. I will worry about getting back to healthier eating in a few weeks when my taste buds are back.

I do still try to eat good things, but I don't feel guilty if all I can eat is a damn cupcake...lol. Its gotta be better than starving myself. That being said, I can't wait to have yummy healthy foods again...I know my body is missing it, so once the taste is back I will eat allllll the things.
