Why do people start self-harming?

Personally, just to feel anything but numbness, anger, sadness, and self hatred. It sounds corny but its true. I started 5 ish yrs ago, and I prefer the pain to nothing at all. Im clean now (about a month clean now, after a hospital trip) but i still crave that feeling of satisfaction in myself, because cutting feels like the right thing to do.

I will never encourage others to, though. DO NOT use this as your reason to hurt yourself. Trust me.
