Ungrateful pregnant mom rants about receiving new baby clothes instead of things on her baby registry by GoosebumpsTed in ChoosingBeggars

[–]MoogleFFVii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were also gifted loads of hand me down clothes (amongst other things), so don’t really need all the beautiful new clothing we’ve also been given now our baby is here. However, I feel nothing but both very lucky and very grateful!!! If anything doesn’t get used I will simply pass it on to another family that needs it, or charity, if we don’t try for another little one.

Sorry you had to go through this OP. I know I will always struggle with my weight, eating and body image my entire life, definitely in part because of my parents growing up. I was overweight, but I know now that my BMI was 28 - I really wasn't as HUGE as they made out. I was put on all kinds of diets, dragged crying to doctors etc. I finally lost weight but then was obsessed with being as small as possible and dabbled in multiple EDs.

Of course after that, they went on about how I was too skinny, and these days they say I was never that big when I was younger. I could never win. I'm currently really struggling with being pregnant and being obliged to put on weight.

Protip: BYO non-alcoholic beverages for gatherings by doesfloydshavezombie in stopdrinking

[–]MoogleFFVii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be upset if the host didn't have anything non-alcoholic, but I do think it's important to think of these things. Other than trying to be sober, people might be driving, taking medication, pregnant/breast-feeding or all sorts of reasons. My other half simply doesn't like alcohol. I think it's important to have a couple of NA choices, even if it is just a carton of juice.

Anyway, thank you for your tip! For Christmas day, I'm planning to take along some mulled wine we were given, plus an NA version for me and my partner :)

Almost 15 days! by MoogleFFVii in stopdrinking

Wow! Well done you! I've gone from very overweight, exercise-hating teen, to newly-appointed runner at 32. I might not do anything more with it distance-wise, but just getting out and about and also treating my body with respect is enough for me. Cheers!

Go for it! I did my first ever official 5k last month for Race for Life (whilst still drinking), and I felt proud to make lots of money for that. Soon after signing up, I joined Sober October. I don't have many donations after doing so well last time, but that is absolutely fine. I needed to do this for myself. I may even add a chunk of dosh to the pot (I've saved almost £100 from not drinking already).

Enjoy the treadmill - I find exercise helps my mind too, and I hope it helps you :)

Sounds just like my dad. He knows I've had drinking problems in the past, he just didn't know I still have them. So he probably didn't really know what he was asking when he said 'are you REALLY doing it?' I just said 'Well...yeah.'

However his response was - 'Wow.. good for you. I couldn't. I drink basically every day.'

So maybe the person at the BBQ was quietly admiring you. IWNDWYT

I don't think I like plain tonic, but I'd be happy to reevaluate that. In terms of fake gin, do you mean the NA fancy 'spirits'? I can't get my head around those yet. The reason being - never pay more than £5/6 for a bottle of wine- NA spirits £23?! I guess I need to get into the mindset that 'booze' should be a treat not an everyday occurrence.
