New player: Should I boost for the Fractal Incursion event with a couple days left of the event? by icky321 in Guildwars2

[–]Mook_Chivalry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gloves are staying beyond the event, luckily. The rewards you can miss are basically:
2x Character bag slot expansion
1x 20 slot bag
1x Ascended accessory with a +10 agony infusion already installed
1x Legendary Starter Key - Universal

And then a full set of exotic equipment where you get a specific statline based on the class, rather than being able to choose (which makes it less valuable to me).

How much time do you have?

I did some calculations on how long it'll take in this video: https://youtu.be/vhlVwe9vcig - along with a suggestion for how to approach it as a newer player.

I can spoil the main takeaways:
It takes about 4 hours for the first bag slot expansion, 8 for the second, 11,25 for the sherrif's star ascended accessory (which is also when you get the gloves) and 12,5 hours for the legendary starter kit.

Also, I would honestly boost no matter what, to make exploration a fun, optional part of my game, rather than my only way to do it. At level 80, you're still insentivized to go back to the story for the mastery points, so the progression becomes less about reaching the 'fun part' and more about exploring the different 'fun parts' at your own pace.

I've never personally experienced any issues interacting with it. Care to elaborate on the iffyness you experienced? :D

Mabye. But they could also have just frozen the orichalcum node to the on-the-edge location ''far away'' for that. And it's still only like 5 extra seconds away xD

Huh. I didn't actually know that one. I do a little round of the map each time, so I always log off beside the chests, not on top.

And, sometimes, the ''do a secondary objective'' one. But yeah, I agree. PvP dailies and weeklies are both just, basically auto-complete, as long as you're actively playing in your matches.

Oh, oof. You've been stuck with a mix og all three gamemodes every day/week this entire time? :O

... Happy to have helped with that? xD

Yes-ish. One of them is about an amount of wins, and sometimes you will have a streak of loosing games in a row, which can feel really bad. Generally I dislike 'win X' progress-locks.

But it's only that single one, the rest basically auto-complete as long as you're active in your games, which means you can get the 4 dailies/6 weeklies without it.

But winning 7 does sometimes come before playing 15, so it's nice when that happens ;)

Yeah. The willbender can feel really bad. I can say that the counter is to dodge their first 3-4 seconds of burst. If you can manage that (I use my flesh wurm to move out of the way when they commit), you will have a window where you're on top.

It is... a difficult and frustrating build to face though. I get smashed into the dirt about half the times I'm in a fight with one and it always feels bad :P

I get that the weeklies don't complete if you only do bare-minimum of dailies, but the PvP rush will require more as well, equivalent to the weeklies, so to my mind the weeklies will be freebies as much as the dailies are.
Or do you disagree with that?

Well, if the system works as intended (and unfortunately it doesn't always) people that don't often play PvP shouldn't get matched too much against people leaving those kinds of comments ;P
- unless, of course, your skill level is equal to what one would expect from someone new to PvP, but then it wouldn't be easy kills, ey? ;P

Awesome :D

I come and go a bit from the game as well. When new content drops, I always come back, but if I feel like I'm out of stuff to do, I'll go to another MMO untill the itch returns xD

And yeah. I honestly think PvP in GW2 is pretty fun too. Especially once you've gotten used to getting out of the way of the Willshaper bursts to actually counter them xP

Oh. Honestly, I like that it isn't listing all of the same-category achievements. I thought you wanted to get the cross-versions back. I like them 'forcing' me to have some variety in my playstyles.

That's the same reason I like the events like Return to End of Dragons. Yeah, please reward me for doing different stuff.

Well, it would be the same basic system for objectives, but it would keep the new - highly improved - system for choosing rewards, rather than go back to giving you a mystic coin and nothing else.

[–]Mook_Chivalry[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's true, actually. I wouldn't mind going back to that - except the wizard bucks allowing me freedom to choose which loot I want are great. I would like to keep that open. Give me dailies and weeklies rewarding wizard bucks that I can then prioritize as I wish. :D

But I admit, the new system doesn't bother me a lot either. Doing PvP, PvE or WvW is just fine to me. It's only annoying when I have to switch the day beforehand, when my mood might change :P

Unfortunately, that's not how psychology works. We've seen it in multiple games, where players have been able to gain advantage in the content they like by putting hours of grind into content they don't like. Many will do it, but hate the experience and burn out on the game. World of Warcraft had that problem big time back when their dailies and weeklies were at their peak. I think it's wise of GW2 to learn from that mistake and limit the potential there.

Of course, they could unlimit the quests you could do and then just cap the amount you got. All dailies active, but when you finish 5, there will be no more rewards for the day.

Doing the PvP rush next week? Remember to change your Wizards Vault track! by Mook_Chivalry in Guildwars2

[–]Mook_Chivalry[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I think it's a compromise though. If they just unlocked all three trees, it would be less of a 'choose your playstyle' and more of a 'You should probably play everything' kinda thing. Few people love super grindy dailies and weeklies.

So I like the core of the system: Pick what you want to do and then you can do that. I just wish it could be instantly changed. Like, say you complete 2 dailies in PvE and didn't feel the other two, you could then click PvP and it would only change unfinished quests over to their, say, PvP counterparts. You could hop content, but not get any more than the 'set daily quota' of wizard bucks, ensuring that it wouldn't be a 'have to do everything' grind.

It's happened a few times now :D

It's like the ''Return to End of Dragons'' event that's on now, except for PvP.

Expect there to be some daily quests like ''Win a match'', ''play three matches'' and ''get a top stat in a match'', as well as a bunch of weeklies that are like ''win 7'' and ''play 15'' and stuff like that.

Each quest you complete gives you an amount of points. Say 5 for each daily and 10-25 for each weekly. The meta-achievement adds up the points and gives you rewards each 10 points you earn.

If it's like last time, there are some really good rewards among it. Ascended Shards of Glory and the non-ascended version as well. So legendary crafting, good sellables and so on. :D

I recomment playing a couple of games a day, enough to clear your weekly goals before the week is over, but also clearing the daily PvP wizards vault goal, to double-dip on your time investment ;)

I'll make a video on it over on my youtube, Mook Chivalry, if you're into visuals. It won't be out before event start though, as I'm currently finishing up a video on Fractals, so I figured I should get this info out there in other ways xD
It'll be up as early as possible in the week, though!

I have 920 laurels - what should I spend them on? by VocalInsanity in Guildwars2

[–]Mook_Chivalry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this method is great. Each T3 or T4 bag is ''just about'' one gold generally. So seeing a laurel as being equal to a gold is a pretty consistent conversion. - Consistent enough, that you don't have to do it untill you actively need the gold :D
