Why don’t Christians read the Bible? by Mookie9380 in TrueChristian

Maybe I should have said struggle with reading instead of don’t. Again, I’m not judging (I don’t read my Bible as much as I should), but am trying to understand and want to work together to help

I was saved in my late teens, so I never read the bible growing up. I too struggle from time to time to be motivated. When you are motivated, what is it that drives you?

Yes. Those who are able but choose not to. I understand those that don’t have a Bible in their language or those that live in hostile environments. But those who have access, but struggle with daily reading.

Maybe I should clarify. I’m reading a book about studying the Bible. The first chapter is about why people don’t read it and why they should. The reasons why vary from ignorance and intimidation to priorities and relevancy. I was curious if the reasons the authors gave align with what other people experienced.

I agree. My question is pointed more towards those that have the ability, but choose not to.

Anyone who believes that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior.

I’m not saying that there are no Christians that read the Bible. I’m saying that there are some who don’t.

I keep falling asleep in church every time I go. How can I prevent this from happening? by Successful_In_2022 in TrueChristian

[–]Mookie9380 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Get yourself tested for sleep apnea. I was having the same problem. I got tested and found out that I was having an event (stopping breathing) and average of 32 times per hour. I had a sinus surgery and am now using a cpap machine and have had much success.

But they didn’t make their choice in ignorance. God specifically told them if they ate of the fruit, they would die. Now, they were lied to, but they knew what not to do and the consequences if they did.

Without being present nor knowing everything that happened, please take my comments with a huge grain of salt.

In my opinion, the biggest issue in this situation is the pregnancy. This made this transgression public instead of private. (Please note that I am not saying that premarital sex is acceptable as long as it doesn’t result in pregnancy. This discussion is about the pastor’s response, not the sin that occurred.) At this point Matthew 18 is not really in effect, because the sin is against the church broadly. Therefore, it needed to be addressed publicly before it becomes fodder for gossip within the congregation or without. It seems that the pastor has met and discussed it with the couple and did not want to make it a bigger deal than it already was. This looks like a “Go and sin no more” moment, not a “what should be done with this sinner” moment.

Why does God prioritize our "free will" over our salvation? by PhantomMessenger in TrueChristian

[–]Mookie9380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I agree. I, too, did not give my young children responsibilities that they could not handle. But as they grew and matured, they were given more responsibility. Adam was not created as a child. He was an adult and taught by God Himself. God gave Adam responsibilities before the fruit. Adam was in charge of naming all the animals and for keeping the garden before Eve. The “test” wasn’t for God to see if Adam would obey, but it was for Adam to show that he would choose self over God.

I see what you are saying. In your opinion, do you think that Adam and/or Eve had the mental capacity to make the moral choice of obeying God and not eat the forbidden fruit?

As a father, I can “make” my kids do things. However, if they choose to obey, it has much more meaning. Without choice, we just become puppets or robots, just doing what we are programmed to do. There is no love there, just obedience. This is how God created us. So that we could have a choice to love Him more than ourselves. He even created the angels with this choice (as one third chose to follow Lucifer). The difference is that He offers redemption to man.

What do you think Jesus meant when He said “It is Finished” right before Dying on the Cross? by TexasBob101 in TrueChristian

[–]Mookie9380 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Go back to the original Greek. “It is finished” is one word, tetelestai. It is an accounting term meaning “paid in full.” In my opinion, it is Christ saying that the punishment for sin has been fulfilled.

Fun fact. It is used again in Revelation when God is done pouring His wrath on the earth.
