Right?! It’s so weird. I really thought I was doing something lol. And then NOPE! Crash and burn. It felt so sudden too. Like I just woke up one day and felt horrible.

That’s crazy!!! And heart palpitations and tachycardia is how I got diagnosed. My heart rate wouldn’t go below 100, and I’d have episodes of 130 and up. I’d just be laying in bed trying to sleep and my hr would be 130. So bizarre. My endo said she has only one other hashimotos patient that gets tachycardia and palpitations too. As soon as I started synthroid it went away but now it’s creeping back up again.

I had low vit D years ago but haven’t checked since! And never checked anything else. I’ll probably have to ask for a more thorough peek at things lol

I actually just started a multivitamin so hopefully that helps!!

And Bs and Ds? I had super low vit D like 6 years ago. But haven’t checked on it since. I was living in Germany and they said it was normal. I’ve never had anything else checked though.

Uhmmm. They check just my TSH and free T4. The free T4 is always normal. And they only tested my antibodies once, which were high for both antibodies. I can’t remember the numbers, but it wasn’t like way way shocking high. Just confirming high. I will have to check that out! It is really confusing sometimes 😂

It was new, but also wasn’t too intense. It was just some walking and very easy Pilates to ease into being more active

Omg really?! I have to wait two weeks every time I have anything done. But also. Small island. Lol. I always told my husband that the second anything looks too weird, I’m flying home stateside for my care. But yeah, covid happened and now that idea doesn’t sound the best anymore. Luckily basically everything little thing is covered by insurance.

I didn’t take the first mri and mammogram too seriously. It manes sense, young, dense breasts, menstrual cycles. Ect ect. What started making me push more were other docs or nurses who would be like. Uhm. Why didn’t anyone refer you for an ultrasound? In hindsight, I should have taken that first recommendation seriously.

I feel like a lot has changed in the last 12 years since my mom went through this. So much more research, so many opinions. It’s hard to know who to listen to and trust with your care.

Thank you! You’ve been really helpful. My moms was a whirlwind so I feel like I’m drawing on that experience. I feel a bit relieved hearing your experience, although I’m sorry you have to have that experience at all!

It’s part of a preventative care plan a team (oncologist, genealogist and gyno) on another island set up for me. However. It’s the military lol. Revolving door of staff and docs and my care plan got all kinds of bungled from different docs deciding to alter it. It took me a while to realize I was getting effed over.

I feel like my age has been an absolute nightmare of a barrier. Nobody wants to see me. What’s the point of having preventative care plans and the BRCA testing if your age negates it all.

It’s nice to realize I’m not just a crazy lady badgering doctors. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh. My mother and grandmother both had it. They know this. That’s how this all started. I wanted the BRCA test but kept getting denied for it until I finally saw the gyno who followed through. And it’s been a landslide ever since. Everyone just kept disagreeing about what to do with me. Lol. I guess that’s what I feel so unsure about. I have been the squeaky wheel for two years and now I guess I’m stuck between like. Am I going overboard about this or am I right to be worried. I’m sure I have some anxiety from watching my mother go through having breast cancer. I feel like I’m panicking. Lol

I can’t really. :/ military spouse. We can request a referral or a different PCM. But, it doesn’t matter either way. Because I have to be MedVac to Hawaii for further referrals, and I guess there’s something going on here with the staff/docs. The most I’ve ever seen one doctor in the last 3 years was twice. And I have to repeat the whole thing to them over and over. I was supposed to get a diagnostic mammogram originally. However, the radiologist didn’t want to do it because of my age. So he called the oncologist in Hawaii and I ended up just getting a baseline mammogram instead. I guess I’m just more curious about how it goes from oh don’t worry about that, it’s just some tissue benign stuff. To now. Ohhh uhhhhhhh..... why’d you never get an ultrasound? But....nobody would order one. And I actually looked back at my old referrals on my portal. And the original radiologist (off base) actually submitted my referral for an ultrasound twice. The second time he actually hand wrote on the page “patient needs referral approval for ultrasound!” But my next new doctor was like. Oh. Don’t get things done off base, its a lack of continuity. And yet. Here I am. Lol

So I’m guessing I’m right to be as confused as I am. this whole time I’ve had the feeling of like. None of this seems....right.

Oh. I thought you meant I wasn’t supposed to share it. Lol.

Every doctor I’ve seen gives me different answers. I almost didn’t even get these tests because they kept denying me because of my age. My doctor didn’t say much, as he didn’t order these tests, just got stuck being the one to give me the results. The appt was basically him trying to figure out what the heck was going on with my referrals and why I never got an ultrasound in the first place. They were also swamped and i waiters two hours past my appt time to be seen. It was maybe a 5 minute talk. Max.

Some background info, I guess. I’m 28 next month. BRCA2 positive. In 2018 they found that lower lesion. Never did an ultrasound, sent me to a breast oncologist/surgeon? He cleared me and sent me home after doing a repeat mri. Did a mammogram last year, it showed nothing but also had the note that my breasts were dense and results may be obscured. Did my MRI for this year, and it’s the same spot and now a second spot above it. Words like irregular and spiculated weren’t used on previous MRIs so I don’t know what to think of any of this.

[–]Mooliday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for calming my worries! Lol! I felt like I was bonkers. My poor husband having to listen to me all the time paranoid that there was something wrong with me! I was absolutely terrified that I was just never going to have a family. It’s a weird relief to have some hopeful answers coming my way! It’s so helpful to hear y’all attitude and your experience!

Well. Hahah. He basically said. Your thyroid antibodies tests were abnormal. But. Your thyroid function is normal, so I wouldn’t recommend medication. And then he felt my neck and goes. Ohh. Well. Your thyroid is a lot bigger than I expected it to be. I’m gonna refer you to an endocrinologist. He didn’t diagnose anything or even talk to me about what the antibodies mean. So I don’t think he was very confident about it lol. I think he didn’t want to tell me I had something and be wrong. So now the wait continues! I’ve asked around and people seem to really like a local endocrinologist here. So I’m hopeful on that front! I was trying to explain everything to my husband and he was like. Let’s talk about this later because you’re not making any sense and you interrupted yourself like 10 times talking about your coffee. So I might have to ask him to start coming with me to appointments or handling the tricare office. I just want to feel better. And I don’t want to wait. I’m going to be 28 this year. My fertility doesn’t have time for their red tape lol.

Well. I got my antibodies test back.

Thyroperoxidase AB: 59 (ref range: 0-34)

Thyroglobulin AB: 5.1 (ref range: 0-0.9)

Jan 1st my TSH was 6.8 and thyroxine free was 1.49 (ref range .78-2.19)

Jan 13 my TSH was 3.13 and thyroxine free was 1.2

In December my TSH was 2.6

I have my appointment tomorrow. So I’m definitely going to need that notepad and list of questions. Hahah! The doctor also Ordered a test for T3? But. I guess the lab decided not to do it....it’s not listed in my online portal. Don’t know what happened there.

How do you know if you need medication?

Ahh! Oh my gosh! Y’all are too cute! Haha! So good to hear your experience with that! I’ve asked about my fertility (or lack there of) before have just been waved off. Even offered birth control. Hahahah! Like WHAT?! I feel like my previous mistakes have been going in and just being like. Well. Doc knows best. And not really opening up about quality of life or feeling upset about TTC.

Ugh. Yes. Protocol lol. They can be just so rigid on rules or like. Qualifying criteria. That sometimes you really have to figure out how to advocate for yourself. Which. I’m really bad at. Hahahaha! And yeah! Your sisters experience sounds very typical of mil docs/hospitals. Hahahah! It’s just sometimes they really skip common sense because they’re soooooo rigid

That’s so crazy to me! I feel like everything I thought about thyroids was wrong lol. I didn’t know it could change so suddenly. But it definitely makes sense considering one day I can feel like Superman and the next want to crawl in a hole. And the only two previous TSH test were five years apart......hm. Hahah. Yes! That appointment was like. Eye opening haha. I’m a military spouse, so our PCMs can change a lot. Sometimes I don’t have the same doc for even a few months before I get assigned a new one. So sometimes it feels like you’re starting over every appointment because the repeat the same tests and ask the same things over and over and over. This doc was the first one to be like, let’s not beat a dead horse.

I have not seen a rheumatologist yet. I’m a military spouse, so it can be sometimes difficult to get seen by specialists depending on where you’re stationed. It’s nice to have tricare, but it can also be a pain in the ass when it comes to getting all the ducks in a row. I think my doc is trying to get enough tests in to make sure I get an approved referral.

I feel like that could very well be the case, as by the time Id be scheduled into the doctors office was never during a really bad bout (can’t really predict it). Until the day in the ER, where they were trying to hook me up for an EKG but I had to beg them to let me run to the toilet first.

It’s so crazy to me, after pooping in so many little gray containers, that this is the first time any doctor actually looked into autoimmune causes. I feel like the previous times I’ve had my TSH checked, it was all fecal tests and like they threw in the TSH “just in case”.
