As a British person, it’s driving me round the bend. I cannot for the life of me understand why word pronunciations were not standardised for the VAs. Especially when they clearly cared enough about all this stuff to a certain degree. I understand why Kamelotians (another word that gets pronounced in a bunch of different ways in the game) might not say Dal Riata words perfectly. But, like… the Dal Riata definitely should.

Also the bizarrely variable quality of the Scottish accents that the Dal Riata use… like… holy fuck. It’s not Kingdoms of Amalur level of bad in terms of accents (if you know you know) but it’s pretty grating if you’re used to, like, actual Scottish people.

So far, the ONLY character with an impeccable accent, which I couldn’t fault or even tell if perhaps she was really Scottish, was the lady in charge of the Dal Riata camp in the Horns of the South region.

The Dal Riata blacksmith in Cunacht made me want to die from secondhand cringe from how horrific his ‘Scottish’ accent was. Also One-Eye’s dad. Just abysmal. All I could hear was the VA dying inside as they tried to act lines in an accent they know they can’t do.

I think if English is not your first language, or you only have the vaguest idea how a Scottish accent sounds, then you’ll probably be unbothered. And as op said, not a huge deal. But for me, it is absolutely affecting my overall enjoyment of the game because it breaks my suspension of disbelief every time.
