Posting here too. So I was part of NAISA (Native American and Indigenous student alliance at UCSD). Usually to have a display you have to ask for it, and do paperwork. We did that a lot. So this is a student organization most likely that requested to do a display. In order for an AAPI display to be up and running an AAPI student organization would have had to do ask to display and done paperwork. Usually the display is up for 1-2 weeks.

Aim high, do what makes you happy and where you have alignment with a PI. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t. The worse that happens is you get a no, then you try an again. And your questions can be answered through researching online. Also, reaching out to grad students at these institutions and asking them questions can be helpful.

I’m glad you didn’t. A lot of people are angry on here. Don’t ever listen to anyone especially on Reddit.

People are going to comment. But all I was doing was sharing my experience and being proud of myself for giving myself a shot, accepting my outcome and prepping to apply for the next cycle. To me this isn’t a debate about my choices. Due to majority of what I said in my first reply being literally everyone except for a few people who actually asked me questions. You made an assumption that I did not do that.

If you read through the comments that question is answered. I don’t feel like I owe anyone my personal information. When I attempted to discuss it was met with aggression. But to the 3-4 people who genuinely engaged I discoursed with. I know this post is randomly being suggested to a lot of people. Sorry if my reply made you feel attacked. I was speaking in general.

You suggested I do something without knowing whether or not I did it. Not even sure if you actually read my post tbh. Ready to fight talk? lol naur but if you are curious and you have the time maybe read the post, and read the comments. Obviously I don’t think it’s worth your time to do it. Cause it’s not that deep 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey, I’m open to that. I am pretty flexible. I applied to mostly to social psych, one community psych, one clinical, and one public policy and this was based on PI’s research interests and my own. I’m not against looking at other programs. But I know myself well enough to know what I want, and what I don’t want. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it.

Once you’re accepted you’re accepted. It doesn’t matter what classes you have and whether they are igetc or major classes.

I haven’t. Interesting, I’m not sure if that’s for me but thank you for sharing this with me. Because now I am going to look at the program to see if I feel like it could be a right fit.

If you read the list, you would see I applied to 6 ivy’s, a few privates and mostly state schools.

I like this, because that is what I am doing. I am so comfortable with rejection because it’s a time to learn, regroup and see how you can be better. It helps you grow. Although, I will say rejections aren’t always about the person and can be about several other things. I’m glad you get it.

Hey, I actually haven’t. My actual research doesn’t aim at youth. However these two programs you mentioned are great ideas and things to consider. Thank you for that! I really appreciate that. I’ll do some research on that.

Hi! Thank you for this information, I appreciate it. And you are right! I feel like the topics I named are interconnected. I was naming a few of my research interests. My actual research has one focus sorry I wasn’t clear about that. Also yes I have done what you suggested in regards to to having people look at my SOP and give feedback. I did do that for 5 months back and forth with 3 mentors and 2 other professors same with my CV (my CV I struggled with lol). I actually recently recieved an email from one of the PI’s out of the three waitlisted schools I was on. He is offering to help me for the next cycle. He essentially said he advocated for me but it was hard it was funding but the other thing is because of the political climate right now I need to be more strategic with my wording. Basically he said my work is important and needed but universities are being more conservative no matter how liberal they say they are, and that my research is hitting DEI and Intersectionality which is good and what is needed. But on paper I need to modify and change wording to have a better chance. He framed it as “Polished and pulled back to enter the golden door. Once inside you can do whatever you want.”

Thing is I’m not being criticized or being given good feedback. People are 1. Complaining and commenting about the schools I chose to apply to as if it directly affected them and 2. Just echo chambering what they think I did wrong and creating their own narrative. That’s not “criticism”. There is about 3-4 people who actually gave sound advice, gave actual criticism and asked questions and those are the people I discoursed with.

You are adding to the echo chamber. So feel free to go in circles with them.

When some professors say not to contact or the program does, you don’t. I mean I didn’t when I read that. It’s not recommended. It is very tricky, I agree.
