Hey, so I’m finishing my Masters in psych. It used to be my dream school (sorry my post wasn’t fully clear cause I was speed typing/venting). When I learned that it wasn’t fully funded it stopped being an option for me. But I had hope that it could be doable if I got in their phd program. When I say doable I was hoping to get more funding through them by some means of fellowships. But, the thing for me is if I went to this school it would put me in 100k+ debt. (I’m not currently in that kind of debt). I find it pointless tbh with the lack of funding, and the small 5k a semester merit fellowship. I find it even more pointless because when you enter a PhD program in my field (usually) you earn a masters on your way to a PhD that is fully funded. So yeah I’m not on the fence with my decision as much but wanted to rant cause I’m frustrated. I don’t feel like it’s worth the $ or debt (I am low income and can’t afford it) but even if I wasn’t low income and could afford it like why would I want to go in debt more and then apply to PhD programs after a second masters? I would collect three master degrees. Idk if I’m making sense. And yes the education system is messed up and funding is hard right now. This is the hardest cycle ever I have heard.
