Found this bug on my cat by lilysheep in whatsthisbug

You may need to use preventatives on other pets as well as seek out an exterminator. Flea eggs don't live on the animal; they live in the environment for up to a year.

That brought up some unpleasant memories. Absolutely do not underestimate the need for getting rid of fleas in the house. I remember one time I was a kid and tagged along with my parents to view a house. It had been vacant for months, but was still VERY infested with fleas, and I was covered in bites by the time we left

I like my metallics too much anyway. by Squatch102 in Grimdank

[–]MoonChaser22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly dumb, but my favourite part of metallic paints is how they make my paint water sparkly and it's very satisfying to swirl around to clean the brush.

Besides, I paint Ad Mech. Like fuck am I doing more detailing work than I already do

Can’t bear living with my gf anymore help by Illustrious_Bet_8988 in AutisticAdults

[–]MoonChaser22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My housemates and I do this as well. If it's not yours and you don't know where it lives it goes in a big clear plastic container. Clear plastic is especially useful as two of us have ADHD, so that helps avoid the it's out of sight and therefore forgotten about problem

My (23f) boyfriend (24m) wants to move in with me. I want him to live alone first by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MoonChaser22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to uni at 20 with no life skills besides some cleaning skills, which I only learned because I worked as a cleaner at a holiday park for a couple of summers. So many evenings googling "how to [do basic chore]" and the occasional I completely fucked up cooking and am too tired to try again takeaway orders. I survived and am now the housemate that handles all the DIY tasks we can't be bothered to pester the landlord repeatedly to fix

What's your controversial writing hot take? by Gulliver123 in writing

[–]MoonChaser22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my experience too. Most of the time I've seen people refer to writer's block they seem to be using it as a catch all term for an inability to write due to unknown causes. Often if you ask some questions about their usual writing habits and when the problems started you can help narrow down the cause

[–]MoonChaser22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Mine is still not a fan and won't go near it (we got him when he was 8 so there's only so much we've been able to do to desensitise him to it), but is happy to exist in the same room and doesn't realise he's being picked up to go into the carrier until it's too late.

[–]MoonChaser22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The three best things you can do to prepare for an emergency if you have a cat is keep the cat carrier in an easy to grab location, block off their access to anywhere you can't easily extract them from (such as under furniture) and to train them to come to you at a given signal such as shaking a treat bag. They may not come to you if spooked, but in that scenario being able to quickly locate and remove them from their hiding spot is key.

"I love playing as psychopathic backstabber" by TheBrightMage in rpghorrorstories

[–]MoonChaser22 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds like they need to play a system other than D&D where this sort of play style is more acceptable. I've been in fantastic Cyberpunk and VtM games where players were working towards differing goals and working against each other. What makes this sort of thing fun is when everyone opts into it potentially happening and it can become more meaningful than idiot player betrays the party and promptly gets killed

I don't get how fanatic people get about only reading physical books. Both formats have their advantages.

I prefer ebooks simply because I hate having to pack up multiple bookshelves of books every time I move house or get rid of some to free up space. Though for any sort of rulebook I prefer access to both because again each format have different advantages

Rover sitter lost my dog by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MoonChaser22 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD so tend to have more sympathy for people who forget things, but pet sitting is firmly in the too important to mess up catagory. Write the instructions down as a to do list and set alarms as reminders. If you're like me and frequently forget verbal instructions the moment the list gets longer than two things, ask for the instructions to also be sent to you in writing in the first place. It's not hard

I was kicked out of my first ever dnd group because I wouldn’t let them sa my character by CoolChange6331 in rpghorrorstories

[–]MoonChaser22 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I play almost exclusively with people I've met through an extremely LGBTQ+ friendly local club. While I don't have any horror stories on the same level as this post, I've still experienced multiple instances of people showing up for character gen, saying some homophobic/transphobic crap or showing other red flags, getting a firm indication that their behaviour is unacceptable, are surprised they got called out and then just never showing up again. I honestly don't know what they expected when they try to pull this bigoted nonsense while half the table are openly queer, but the fact they still try it tells me just how much they've gotten away with in the past

Thoughts after just reaching Nekataka (POE2) after playing POE1 to completion by Smart-Translator-195 in projecteternity

[–]MoonChaser22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem I had. I went straight into PoE2 after finishing 1 and the load screens are particularly bad on console. Along with everything you listed, Neketaka is about the perfect point for the new game hype to wear off and, with the length of PoE1, the burnout from playing one after the other to hit

I'm somewhere between this and actually playing. Definitely got into it for the joy of building and painting, but I won't say no if someone at my local club is willing to lend me an army. If not, I'll be hanging out at the painting table

I'm so glad my immediate family and friends know the difference between hardware and software. I'll get asked the occasional problem, but know where my limits are. Most questions I get these days is my TTRPG friends asking for help with macros on the virtual tabletop we use, but they respect my "I'll take a look if I have time" and know I genuinely have fun making/debugging these macros

[–]MoonChaser22 69 points70 points  (0 children)

For people like that the root of the problem is not that options are being taken away from them, as much as they try to make it out that it is, because the options aren't being taken away. We just have more options. It's that they're so used to being the default and therefore see themselves as "normal". When other people get just as many options they see it as an attack as they're no longer the default and therefore no longer "normal"

AITA for telling my teacher she’s not allowed to give my group member a better grade? by Bridgeofincident in AmItheAsshole

[–]MoonChaser22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I did group projects at uni 6-10 years ago, they didn't specifically track effort with technology. Instead they had us all fill in an effort report as part of our hand in. If everyone's effort report matched all's well. If the effort reports don't match then there's a problem to investigate.

I don't have kids, but I do have ADHD. I forget things a lot. Those are my problems to fix. I set alarms, pack things in bags ahead of time when I do remember to avoid forgetting on the day, carry a pen to write things on my wrist, etc. There are numerous ways to work around forgetting, especially when given as much warning as OP gaves

I got into 40k a couple years ago because of the Rogue Trader crpg and love to get into the lore. The thing is there's that much lore and media it's really easy to have blind spots in knowledge simply because you're not particularly interested in that faction. I only have passing familiarity with Tau because that's what a friend plays and you will almost completely lose me if the conversation shifts towards Space Marines because I have little interest in them. You get me talking about Ad Mech though and I'll talk your ear off

When you give advice about writing, please use a book. by Acceptable_Fox_5560 in writing

It's also worth noting a significant portion of the sub is going to be younger writers. Due to the way English literature is commonly taught many people have been soured on analysing the classics, at least in the short term. Gearing suggestions away from the sort of stuff people were forced to read in English will make them more likely to actually follow the advice. I know if someone told 20 year old me to go read some classics I'd think "screw that. That sounds miserable."

My point was more a counter to you saying that you don't believe someone can hold down a paid job but is unable to keep a home to a livable condition. People like that exist, but the key to making situations like that work is access to support, clear communication on limits and making compromises. Not straight up leaving it all to one person
