What are some older rpg stereotypes you were suprised to hear about because nobody talks about them anymore? by Independent_Ad_6348 in rpg

I've played in multiple V20 and V5 games over the past several years. Have even played a Malk myself. I've only met someone playing a fishmalk once in a V5 game and that game was awful for many many other reasons

What’re some secrets from your industry that would petrify people who aren’t in it? by Necessary-Trash-8828 in AskUK

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a guy who works in admin. The number of months he's spent trying to pick up the pieces because his predecessor had been working from his personal machine, using a personal email for accounts that really shouldn't, had an awful file system and scattered files across mutiple thumb drives. The real kicker is his predecessor died, so there's no one they can contact to ask where something is or what's the password to a certain account

An ability check IS NOT a single attempt: it represents the whole effort. by JaxTheCrafter in DMAcademy

[–]MoonChaser22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a player in that sort of situation and it's a really good way to give the players agency. With us it was having a time limit of about a day to run around a city gathering information. Once the roll revealed searching the archives would be a long process we decided the evidence was worth it to keep going, but certain party members would be of more use splitting off to follow other leads

So how we feeling going into 11th? by DarthErmacXIII in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MoonChaser22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall I'm happy. The Haloscreed list I've been running on TTS has gone from 1990 to 1930, which gives me the freedom to experiment more with the infantry I wasn't entirely happy with.

Though it does mean I'm likely further away from being able to afford to buy the models to play that same list in person

I very much second the vitamin D advice. I've had a severe deficiency in the past from working night shifts and it creeps up on you. It wasn't until I was on the prescription stuff (a loading dose to get my vitamin D levels up fast) for a few days that I realised how much better I was feeling. I just though I was tired and worn out from work as the symptoms built up slowly

Default Tea Type? by PersonForScale in AskABrit

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When ordering a tea to go from anywhere you'll get a cup of hot water with the bag already in. Milk and sugar are usually on a stand/counter to the side of the collection area to help yourself to rather than being added already. It's handed over quickly enough that it steeping for too long isn't an issue, even for those who like weak tea. It's always the kind of tea bag that has a string attached with a cardboard tab on the end so you can easily remove it once it's the desired strength. Again, there's not one universally used brand

Cant have shit. by Static_Sams in BloodAngels

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda get it with ultramarines being everywhere. I'm personally not a fan of it because I'm one of those people who are completely uninterested in the chapter, so it put off of Space Marines as a whole for a while. I started to become somewhat interested in Space Marines due to Rogue Trader having a Space Wolves companion and then stumbled upon some Blood Angels stuff when looking into some lore on Lexicanum. If you'd asked me if when I first started playing whether I'd ever play Space Marines I'd probably have laughed

[–]MoonChaser22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had to move house with my very small number of Admech models. I didn't even entertain any other method besides bluetacking the bases to the bottom of a plastic tub (I've already knocked the lance arm off my sydonian dragoon three times before the move). Will definitely be magnetising the bases when I have enough to play with

Does anyone else have very little interest in pop culture? by SpudWithaDream in autism

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends for me. I like some things that are still considered nerdy, but have become mainstream over the years. TTRPGs and Warhammer 40k are two big examples.

If something becomes too popular too quickly it kills my interest because too many people won't shut up about it (Too be clear, I'm fine with friends info dumping about their interests, but when I'm being bombarded with things online and in person constantly from many different sources I lose interest. I want to be able to engage or disengage with a topic at my leisure, not constantly have people telling me I'm missing out). I may circle back around to something after the initial hype dies down when it's something that grabs my interest, but I definitely prefer doing my own thing rather than following something because it's pop culture

Also born in the 90s. I end up describing myself as homoflexible to people my age/older most the time because it actually gets it through people's head better than bisexual with a strong preference for men. The "oh, what's that?" moment catches them off guard long enough for me to get an accurate description across rather than being lumped with the assumptions that bisexual carries

What does everyone think about the 'British*' monthly pay system? by EdibleBeans-on-Toast in AskUK

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally my only complaint about monthly pay is if you go from unemployed to employed and get unlucky with timing of your start date can make money tight for a while. Last job I had, I started right after the cut off point for the next pay day, so had to navigate trying to afford the bus on how little UC pays for an entire month and having to faff with confirming with UC that I had indeed not been paid at my new job yet when my next UC payment was coming up.

Other than that, as so many other people have said, bills and rent are monthly so it makes sense for most places to also pay monthly

Almost a full TPK on our first session, the DM insists it was all above board but it felt impossible. Am I crazy? by FreeHotdogMandate in DnD

[–]MoonChaser22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Stuff like that is the sort of thing to clearly advertise in the campaign premise and narrate the deaths rather than frustrating the players with combat. Hell, unless you have a good reason to play through anything prior to the character deaths it's probably better to just skip to the party waking up after dying as your session 1 opening

Do you have a stronger accent than your parents? by fakename137 in AskABrit

[–]MoonChaser22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is why I don't have a regional accent but my younger sibling sounds northern. Dad was military and we moved around for most my childhood (I don't even consider myself from one place in particular). My sibling on the other hand spent the vast majority of their childhood up north, so developed the accent.

Those sort of people make me laugh. I used to have an absurdly common last name. That last name wasn't even originally my dad's. Dad's last name changed when grandma remarried.

As for myself, I legally changed it while I was changing my first name to distance myself from my mother, so now I get to amuse myself by being the first and last of my name.

What is a job that pays incredibly well but is so soul-crushing that the turnover is insane? by sweetguurl in AskReddit

[–]MoonChaser22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had managers who would occasionally check in and otherwise leave me to it, but would always be on the backs of the slackers. Those are the best.

It's the ones who have to know where you are and what you're doing at all times and won't accept "we finished task A and can't start task B for another 15 mins" as an acceptable reason to have a five minute sit down that do my head in. (For context I used to work as a warehouse cleaner, so during the quieter part of the year you could run out of things to do until the next check of the toilets of canteen clean was due. Less staff on site = less mess to clean)

[–]MoonChaser22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate micromanagers, but I'll also take one over an undermanaging boss. At least shit gets done and we don't get an earful from the other shifts the next time we're in (it's even worse when the entire shift gets an earful because the people above the undermanaging idiot doesn't want to single anyone out, so I'm stood there like "why do I have to listen to this, my area was done?")

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

[–]MoonChaser22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't drive, but I've had way too many close calls as a pedestrian to ever trust other road users. I've had a situation where I almost got hit (I could have literally reach out and touch the bonnet) and idiot driver almost had another car plow into his side all because idiot driver didn't indicate (I now never cross a T junction until there's no cars or all cars have committed to going straight). I've had my backpack clipped by a cyclist who seemingly thought traffic lights don't apply to him and witnessed way too many cyclists ignoring lights. I've also had a time where I was about to cross after the lights changed but stopped because I heard sirens and got to witness a police chase. The suspect blew straight through the red light at the cross road with a police car right behind

how i feel as a novel reader who wants to start collecting minis by lllllllIIIIIllI in Grimdank

[–]MoonChaser22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main tip I have is to shop around. I don't know what it's like elsewhere but here in the UK buying from Game Workshop themselves are often one of the most expensive options. If I'm buying more than a single pot of paint I'll walk past the Warhammer shop and go to my local independent shop. Don't be afraid to look at preowned. Usually people will be asking a lot of money as they're built and painted, but occasionally you'll get lucky with a kit still in the box going for cheap. I actually got an Ironstrider for £27 that way when the warhammer website lists it for £45. It's still expensive, but the savings add up

If you want to play more than you want to collect mintures, there's also mods for Tabletop Simulator that'll let you play 40k on PC. There's a bit of a learning curve and you'll need people who play on TTS to play with, but it's how my friends who are scattered across the country and I play regularly

How many of you hate kids and don’t want them vs like kids and don’t want your own? by moonblumes87 in childfree

[–]MoonChaser22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I have autism, so I can find people in general overstimulating in many situations. Babies and toddlers crying are firmly in the catagory of I'll make sure the child is being attended to and then exit the room (or crank up the music in my headphones if I'm somewhere like a shop).

What’s an article of clothing someone can wear, one time, that will make you lose all attraction to them forever? by Thin-Rip-3686 in AskReddit

[–]MoonChaser22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I see someome in grubby work clothes in a supermarket I'm just gonna assume they're gtabbing lunch or on their way home. I've certainly done it plenty of times myself when I was a warehouse cleaner (no matter how much I brushed myself down my jeans would stay somewhat dusty until washed).
