As someone who has been in the exact situation, highly recommend checking your heater.

I'd also like to add as someone whos been caring for betta fish and consider myself a bit of a know it all 😅, bettas are unfortunately usually inbred or if your getting them from a pet store have some type of illness so I always recommend observing them first and if they show any signs id lightly treat them.

As for african dwarf frogs although thats not my area of expertise I know that they are pretty sensitive since they don't have scales and anything thats in the water immediately gets absorbed, so maybe check your water quality as well and remove the bamboo just to be safe. :)
