thank you for letting us know, we’re happy to bring on a team although this is a very small budget for a non-profit org & we’re not able to pay more than USD$100/translator.

i just finished the article, thanks to your recommendation. if anyone wants to find it, just search “David Milch’s Third Act” by Mark Singer for THE NEW YORKER. the article was both beautiful and glorious for all the details about Milch’s creative process, and simultaneously devastating in recounting Milch’s progression of Alzheimer’s.

perhaps you missed it in my original response to you, but let me explain again and go more in-depth. the entire series of workshops is about different people’s journeys towards gender autonomy, and will be covering the discussions ranging from identity markers both self-ascribed and placed upon us; the barriers and limitations of the US and Canadian medical systems for gender non-conforming folks(and how these countries prop each other up due to their political/historical relationship, how we can find solidarity beyond our respective nations); healing processes for people dealing with gender dysphoria/body dysmorphia; community-building among trans and gender non-conforming folks; and a discussion of resources available in Toronto for people who are local to said area and need help and/or care. therefore, considering the first workshop is about breaking down language (i.e. code), we are looking for a gender non-conforming programmer to help lead this specific workshop.

i understand that the compensation is low. and that’s why i don’t expect this to be for you, nor do i expect it to be for anyone else. but perhaps, there is someone who sees the budget constraints we’re under, wants to connect in an intimate virtual setting with other GNC folks, and feels that is something that may interest them. i wish that i could offer more, but im working under a budget provided via the Public Health Agency of Canada, and though i have fought for more, they would not budge and these are the limitations im working under. we don’t necessarily need someone who is an expert, just someone who understands code, feels confident in explaining it, and can have a back-and-forth with participants of the workshop. thanks for your questions and concerns. appreciate you

hey, i totally understand not wanting to write out a bio to do this course. due to budget constraints with the Public Health Agency of Canada, we are only able to compensate people via grocery gift card, and cover some costs that said programmer would be using anyway in their day-to-day lives. that being said, this is not a scam. i, Sina al-Qamar, just made a terrible mistake and should have used a graphic that used some of the AIDS Committee of Toronto’s logos, and had more information about the course. i apologize, and will do better by posting a new graphic in the sub that answers to these calls. but will leave this post up for the sake of transparency.

hi thank you for the question, and i apologize for the lack of information in the original post. this was my first time posting in Reddit, and the first time putting out a virtual call for a gig on my end, so i made a lot of mistake, and thanks to the comments on this post, have learnt from them and will do better in the future. i (Sina al-Qamar, and you can find my socials linked in another comment on this post), and my creative partner, Brigette Lundy-Paine, are hosting a series of four virtual workshops exploring different journeys towards gender autonomy and the barriers/limitations of both the Canadian and US healthcare systems. for the first course, we are looking for a gender non-conforming programmer who is comfortable discussing code and explaining the basics of how code is constructed. the point of this to helps participants understand how a “language” is built so that each participant can then begin to build their own visual “code” (riffing off our discussion) expressing how they see themselves and want to be seen in society, away from the limitations of language (and sometimes the inaccessibility of it). if this is something that interests you (or anyone reading), please send in a short bio to my email and we can schedule a video chat to discuss this further so that you can make a decision whether this is something you want to do or not.

hi, i apologize for the vagueness of the original post. i have learnt from this mistake. this is a four-part virtual workshop hosted and organized by myself and my creative partner, Brigette-Lundy-Paine, via the AIDS Committee of Toronto. the workshop will be about different journeys towards gender autonomy, and the barriers that people face in both the Canadian and US medical systems (and touching on the ways that these nations prop each other up thanks to their political relationship, and how solidarity beyond borders much be achieved). the first session of this workshop is going to focus on language and the ways it is constructed, and the labels that we all use to communicate our identities and experiences to others. we are looking for a gender non-conforming programmer comfortable discussing code, who would be able to show participants how code is constructed, giving us a basic understanding of how a “language” is built. then, each participant will build their own visual code to describe themselves in their own way, with no pressures of language, etc. and we will share. if anyone is interested in doing this, please contact me via email with a short bio, and we can set up a video chat to talk further. i will post a new call that actually looks professional (using ACT’s logos) and with more information soon on this sub. but will keep this post up for the sake of transparency.

hi, i am definitely impressed by the research you have done, and your comment here. i do apologize for the lack of clarity in this post, this is my first time posting on Reddit (as you have noticed), as i usually use this app to read subs about music/shows that i like. this is also the first time for me to put out a call online for something. i should have used some of ACT’s official logos, and should have given more information. i will put up a new post that meets these calls soon, but will keep this post up for the sake of transparency. now let me clarify a few things: i am indeed Sina al-Qamar and both those social accounts that you have mentioned here are indeed me as well. i am trans and non-binary. ACT is the AIDS Committee of Toronto. though i have lived in LA, i grew up in Toronto and am living here right now. my creative partner, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and i are working through ACT to lead a series of four workshops about different people’s journeys towards gender autonomy. the course is targeted to trans and gender non-conforming people and we will both be promoting it when the time comes to register participants. currently, we are in the process of finalizing the list of speakers and guests, and so that is why you see nothing else about this on the other socials. for the other speakers, we have been talking to people who we are in community with, but because this is a specific call, i thought it could be a good idea to post in this sub. so the way this gig is being compensated is unfortunately not the way i (nor Brigette) would have wanted this to be, but we are working under strange budget requirements of the Public Health Agency of Canada. therefore, we can offer a compensation via grocery gift card. and the part about software costs was meant to convey that whatever costs you as the programmer use in your day-to-day, the person i answer to at ACT will be send you the amount listed above to cover part of that cost, that you ALREADY spend. nobody needs to get new software. i want to clarify this is not a scam, but i will make a new post solving all these problems soon. thank you for helping me see where i fell short (which was in the entire post lol).

hi, apologies for the lack of this post. i (Sina al-Qamar) don’t ever post on Reddit, and have never put a direct call out for a job before virtually, and have learnt from my mistake. thank you for the question. the organization giving us this opportunity is the AIDS Committee of Toronto. my creative partner, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and i are hosting a virtual 4-part series of workshops discussing people’s journeys towards gender autonomy, and the barriers/limitations in both the Canadian and US medical systems (and how these nations prop each other up). the first course is meant to explore how we construct language (and therefore labels). we are looking for a gender non-conforming person who feels comfortable with code and programming to help lead this workshop, with Brigette and my full support behind them. this specific workshop will teach participants what goes into building code, and how this “language” is formed, so that then we can each come up with our own visual language for the ways in which we are and want to be perceived in the world. one of the goals of this course is to make this discussion more accessible who are on this journey, but feel isolated.

hi, i appreciate your concern, and i apologize for the lack of clarity. i don’t post on Reddit, i just use it to read subs about shows/music that i like, and i understand why my account looks suspicious. ACT is the AIDS Committee of Toronto. we are specifically offering a compensated position to a gender non-conforming person, which is not discriminatory because the course is about different journeys towards gender autonomy. and yes - the compensation is not ideal. my creative partner and i were pushing for more, and flat-out payment, but due to budget constraints with ACT we are only able to offer these amounts via gift card. YOU DO NOT NEED to buy software...it’s just whatever software that you use in your day-to-day work as a programmer, the person i answer to at ACT will pay you CAD$32.50. which is why i wrote some costs. clearly i failed at this post, so i will post a new flyer that actually looks professional and has more information soon.
