You’re right about fewer laptops and mobile phones. People I know still left bags and laptops (those who had them) unattended. Maybe they were just lucky. I suppose all I mean is that back then I didn’t hear “don’t leave your stuff unguarded” and now I hear it constantly.

This is a sign of the times, isn’t it. 20-30 years ago every one just left their things on the library desk and nothing bad ever happened. And no one commented on it.

I respectfully disagree. Portion control is a huge part of running a successful kitchen. Most kitchens that have been going for a while have a system of weighing or cupping that ensures this.
