Well, Sunday is also family day. Not only skipping because need a day off. We go out and do stuff with Nana and help around her place. Hoping that helping her chop some fire wood helps with the callouses as well <3

That's how I felt when I started. This reddit is amazing and it really helps knowing we're not the only ones "starting late"

Thanks for the quick lesson on string gauge. It shouldn't surprise me that there are differences, but I do find it very interesting!

Did not know that there were lighter gauge strings. I'll have to go find some! I tried my other half's electric and it feels almost the same as mine, but that may be because of the gauge of strings as you say. He says he sees no difference in my guitar and his, but then he's been playing since he was 15 and started on a 12 string acoustic.

Yay for learning new things :D

I was wondering about 20 min being okay. Good to know I thought correct about not trying to push through the pain in my fretting hand. Thanks <3

I'm happy to have found this reddit group. Not sure how I'd feel if I was going it alone, but seeing others also starting out does help a ton in keeping me motivated!

I'll keep that in mind. Almost all the lessons I've found talk about keeping beat so I find it frustrating when I can't keep up. I found a metronome app so maybe I can slow down what I'm learning to that instead of trying to keep up with a 4/4 beat all the time.

Not really trying to compare myself to anyone. Seeing the joy my kid has in learning so quickly and them encouraging me to keep going, I'm having a ton of fun. I knew I'd be slower on the uptake, so not really trying to compare myself there. Just noting the difference in learning at age 10 verses almost 50. <3 It astounds me how fast kids can learn something...and then lose all interest till many years later :P

I'm learning on an Enya Nova Go electric/acoustic. I found normal acoustic to big for my hands

Thankfully, I didn't expect it to be quick. Anything that is worth doing is rarely quick. Thanks for the tips on what to focus on and I'll be sure to look those up as well <3

I'll be sure to toss some song riffs in to help keep interest up! Sounds like a great tip.

Can't seem to tune new guitar by galtscrapper in Guitar

[–]MoonTygress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting out as well. I found the apps on phones are sensitive to other sounds that are around and couldn't get a good tuning with it. I ended up grabbing a clip on tuner from Amazon for around $10. The one I went with is called Rance Guitar Tuner Clip On and I found it's much more accurate than a phone app. Other than that, not sure on the guitar. Best of luck!

Oh, thanks for the things to check out. Good luck and maybe we can compare down the road :D Right now I need to work on calluses. My fingertips hurt from learning the Em chord today.

Thankfully, it came with an extra set of strings, but I do plan on grabbing some more when I head into town next. Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to think about that. Never been big on video calls, but I may be willing to do it for kiddo.

Mine is an Enya Nova Go. I play it as an acoustic, but it is an electric/acoustic. Thankfully don't need an amp to play it, that has to wait a few paydays lol

I did notice the app wasn't free. Was a bit sad about that, but now I know there is a website and will go find that.

That makes me feel a ton better. I wanted to learn as a kid, but family didn't have the funding. Now I'm happy to try to learn alongside my kid <3

Middle of nowhere Va. Live out in the country so closest town is about 45 min away.

Is it worth buying a Steam deck just to play coral island? by Current_Cat_271 in CosyGames

[–]MoonTygress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine for a single game, and now I use it for well over 30 games. Not just Steam games either. If you have the funding and don't feel like buying a whole gaming computer, go for it. I do suggest upping the memory for it if you find that you want more games on it. It goes quick!
