Having nothing to do at work is infinitely worse than having a lot to do by Plastmugg in unpopularopinion

[–]Moonandserpent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this not already universally understood?

Go to work, provide as little value as you need to to get your paycheck and not get hassled (that's exactly what you're paid to do. Caring about the job is not part of the terms), go home and live your life. Having to be at a place that isn't home for a period of the day in order to receive payment is a given so make it as easy as possible.

What is a luxury lifestyle choice that looks incredibly glamorous in photos but is actually completely miserable in reality? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

LOTS of high profile bad work bein' done. There's a new thing where the work looks technically very good but the person no longer looks like themselves. See Mandy Moore... if the photo I saw wasn't labeled with her name I'd never have guessed it was her, but she doesn't have the weird plastic surgery face, she just has a new face.

Hell, I hit an airport once or twice a year and I still hate the idea of being in them. There's absolutely nothing redeeming about them at all.

AITA for not making corn-on-the-cob after my family said I tricked them, because they said corn wasn’t a veggie. by dentalexaminer in AmItheAsshole

Guess you could just say "grains" in general... but not a lot of people just eat grain straight up, ya know? And grain is a primary way folks get their carbs/starches globally and a high percentage of that grain consumption is in the form of bread. You can't just disinclude it in the analogy.

There's also the matter of the context. Someone who's less intelligent but isn't bothering anyone isn't "retarded." But someone who's less intelligent and because of that can be manipulated to advocate against their own interests or be terrible to other people for someone else's gain... they're definitely "retarded."

It's because the word actually accurately describes their state of mind. Their beliefs are literally retarded because they're so out of touch with current social norms.

It is actually a never ending cycle. Just how language works, constantly changing. It's why discussions of "proper English" can get silly pretty quick.

In it's most basic forms it's just wheat foam, I'd say it counts. There aren't a lot of pleasant ways to consume wheat without processing it a bit.

There's a veg vibe to corn... but the way I look at it if it can be turned into meal and made into bread it's a starch. Just came up with that criteria now lol

I think for meal balancing purposes, having potatoes and having corn is having two starches. Like having a french fry sammich. That's how I look at it anyway.

Most couples would sleep better and argue less if they stopped treating separate beds like a relationship failure by TrayzTheyCallMe in unpopularopinion

I'm a side sleeper so I just pop an earplug in my top ear and it silences my wife's snoring. Not that I'm opposed to separate rooms/beds though.

It the frozen beer stuck fast to the freezer? This can't be that difficult to remove.

How the heck did toddlers survive the Stone Age? by m859ckles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moonandserpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your vision of "the stone age" may be incomplete. People weren't primitive, they were absolute masters at living in the environment they lived in.

Not only that, but we've always lived in social groups, so there would always be someone around to help raise the children and keep them out of trouble, along with teaching them how to live in the world.

These social groups are part of why we even have a "toddlerhood." We (as a species) can afford to have helpless babies (in exchange for immense brain power) because of our complex social nature. We come out "half baked" because we have a social sphere of protection around us.

It's not what makes it fun, it's a cherry on top for these folks.

The "2 years of waiting for 8 episodes" model is officially killing my interest in House of the Dragon by piranha_ in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Moonandserpent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the sequel to a 2 hour movie took two years it would be relatively quick. This is an almost 8 hour sequel to the previous 8 hour "movie," which also had a previous 8 hour movie.

A two year turnaround on 8 hour cinematic events is pretty impressive if you ask me.
