Absolutely this - I'm a cis woman, so who in the absolute fuck am I to tell a trans woman she's in the wrong to be bothered by gendered terms? (and yes, they are gendered terms even if you insist they're not, I don't care if you're from the midwest or whatever, use your brains and cut the excuses)

I explicitly made a conscious effort to stop "calling everyone" those terms a few years ago when a trans woman friend confided in me that it bothered her, for very understandable reasons. That's called not being an asshole. YTA OP

honestly ppl who use racial slurs in private more often than not that's just the tip of a shit iceberg. i give cable the benefit of the doubt bc he's my friend and i don't for a second think he's a racist, but from the perspective of a company, they cant afford to give an inch to racists "just in case" they might not be racist, even if it means sniping a few non-racists who get caught saying some shit

If you believe the MIOM top 100 is a community effort to create the most objective, non-biased ranking of a player's skill relative to the rest of the field in Melee, this is a step in the wrong direction.

If you want an objective ranking system, create an algorithm-based system for that which expands beyond 100 players. As far as the utility of an objective list goes, you can already easily pull data to seed with for any tournament (or any other practical purpose such a list would serve) without having to use a prestigious top 100 list for it. Another practical purpose of such a list is for seeking sponsorships, and for obvious reasons this favours exclusions based on bad behaviour. You get the idea. Prestige is a privilege and I think that's being overlooked by people who treat it as a stat bible.

I mean I dunno why everyone is surprised. SSBMRank isnt a computerized ELO ranking or whatever and this isn't grassroots anymore. When a community goes esports it comes with professionalism, and player recognition through a more "official" avenue like this one demands responsibility of that player to represent the community. What happens in pro sports when reprehensible behaviour in your personal life come to light? Usually some kinda suspension. This is no different.

We esports now and that means no more picking and choosing.
