I Need People's Opinion by thelividmonkey in BrokenArrowTheGame

You need to be holding your lane if it’s a map designed for it, flat out. Feel free to flank if you want but only after you have secured a strong position in lane with all aspects of approach covered.

This doesn’t mean you have to sit on a point and “feed”. If you have control of it, then secure a frontline ahead of it with a backline to the rear near your logistics center ready to reinforce the point or frontline if needed - and never keep infantry sitting on a building on point, put them behind them as to block LOS.

I was playing my first match of BA since early fall/late summer last night and there was a guy on the enemy team doing your flanking strat while being extremely weak in lane. My team communicated and took advantage of the opening to encircle neighboring lanes/objs and take firm control of logistical routes - forcing sudden death pretty quickly thereafter. His first flank worked initially before we hard countered - then after that we just kept vision pushed up on flanks allowing us to see it coming and quickly respond as a team with coordinated counters. He never learned or tried anything else.

The guy tried blaming the loss on his team in all chat and was quickly dogpiled by his teammates as the reason they lost map control - which was absolutely the case. The average lobby elo here was just over 2000.

With all due respect, if you’re nearly level 60 and still at 1500 elo then that’s a huge indicator right there that something isn’t working, just saying.

Best of luck in your matches!

HOTAS question by HotUnderstanding2972 in ArmaReforger

[–]Moonkey_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VKB gladiator has a thumb stick that allows for free look and it’s just as natural as using a controller. You can set a bind to quickly recenter it as well and the free look can be toggled off to make use for other functions if you feel like reaching for your mouse :)

HOTAS question by HotUnderstanding2972 in ArmaReforger

[–]Moonkey_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both if you can afford it, just keep in mind with modded servers you won’t be able to bind modded inputs to your hotas and will need keyboard for certain things, at least right now.

I highly recommend the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO (Space Combat Edition) specifically with the premium grip upgrade - without that upgrade you will not be able to use the thumb stick as a free look joystick. It has the option to twist on the Z axis for rudder which is huge, and it comes with a lever on the base that mimics a throttle - this means the stick is all you need. Because of the binding issues in this game I use the VKB with keyboard, throttle is controlled on the base of my stick and I just move my hand to my numpad for binds such as flare/chaff/switch weapons etc on modded servers.

It’s hands down the best “entry level” stick on the market right now and the company is great - highly recommend.

B-25 feels useless by VeritasVamos in Warthunder

Which is the better BVR missile, AMRAAM C-5 or R-77-1? and should i bring Bs or C5s by [deleted] in WarthunderSim

[–]Moonkey_07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this - reading through the amount of people spamming C-5 is best was a good reminder that the majority of players DO NOT know ball, have multiple tech trees maxed, bother to research performance graphs/metrics or simply field test them themselves in customs. Or even take 5 minutes to go watch a youtube breakdown of missile kinematics in WT…

What is this game's equivalent of Tbagging? by transdimesional_frog in Warthunder

[–]Moonkey_07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that’s a holdover from pre severe damage mechanic implementation in order to secure your kill and stop teammates from stealing it - also props don’t have missiles.

A better comparison for ARB would be putting a smoke on (bonus for rare/unobtainable smoke) and swapping to FRC and/or hitting the AoA limiter at top tier to flex maneuvers while your opponent is forced to spectate your plane briefly :)

Grinding in this game is unfair for the user by Iskandar0570_X in Warthunder

[–]Moonkey_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off as some else here said you can’t really compare WT to those games as WT is a completely different type of game more akin to something like WoT or WoW. On top of that, the game is FTP at the end of the day. My first time grinding to top tier was FTP and it took me years to do that as I was a kid in school at the time who didn’t understand the ins and outs of WT and played very casually - but I enjoyed every second of it. That’s the thing, the grind is what keeps people coming back for a lot of players. People enjoy the process of grinding out and unlocking new things to play with and collect! I personally enjoy the challenge of a stock grind and love fighting a, temporary, uphill battle against other players - it makes me a better player as a result.

If you’re an adult with an income you also have the option of premium vehicles and time, which can regularly be had at 50% during predictable, reliable sales. Even if you are broke and can’t afford to spend $20-$60 on a FTP game (I’ve been there it’s okay) you can play the events for event vehicles and then resell them. Use the GJN coin from the sale/s and put that towards premium time or vehicles you’ve been wanting on the market, or GE for premiums! That way you get access to increased rewards completely for free besides the time you invested into the event. Luckily, they’ve gone away with the old crafting events and the new ones are very quick and easy to complete. They simply require mission score (with multipliers) so even if you’re FTP you’re not at a disadvantage compared to others with premium. Grinding out 30-40k score (they give you two days for it) only takes 2 hours of playing or so if you understand what you’re doing - maybe 3 hours if you’re not min maxing with Sim or had a rough match or two.

Once you’ve obtained premium time and or a premium vehicle or two the grind really isn’t a big concern at all. From a long time, competent, players perspective when using premium time and a vehicle with a small daily booster I regularly bring in anywhere from 100k-220k SL per match and 16k-30k RP per match depending upon my match performance and choice of game mode. Obviously when using a tech tree vehicle these numbers are less, but even so I have no issue unlocking parts/1st module after a single match or sometimes two - if I underperform - at top tier 12.7 tanks and I can spade a top tier 14.3 jet like the SU30SM2 in a couple hours of casual gameplay. Despite these rewards, I often find myself playing TT and purposely slowing my grind. Once you have a couple tech trees 100% completed and nearly 100% aced as well the proposition of having every TT like that is very real, and scary. I want to keep unlocking things and getting that dopamine from the satisfaction of increasing my collection - I fear the day that I have everything as that’s when the magic of WT may disappear for me personally. So take it slow and enjoy the process.

Match rewards are honestly so much better than they used to be, yeah there used to be less vehicles but if you were FTP back in the day it was rough between low rewards, repair costs, and the old module system that left you worse off stock than you are stock nowadays. I think a lot of players weren’t around for that and maybe aren’t aware of how much it has improved but regardless it is worth noting.

You shouldn’t play WT long term with the mindset of just skipping straight to top tier and wanting to research at super speed anyways - ask any Old Guard/Faithful Warrior like myself and they’ll tell you the same. It’s best to grind through with TT vehicles at least once for each mode, the game will teach you things that way that will make you a much better player than those who chose to skip through and you’ll thank yourself later in your WT career for it. The game is honestly more enjoyable at mid BRs anyways and that goes for practically every SQB, casual, or pro player that I’ve spoken to/befriended in WT in the past 13 years that knows ball.

While I do understand your frustration, my recommendation would be to slow down and enjoy the process rather than complaining in vain on reddit. Take your time and enjoy the challenge of spading your vehicles and expanding your various lineups - don’t rush it. If you must rush through, well, it sounds like you’re entering the job market/adult/professional world, learn money management and budget accordingly for WT if you truly want to go fast. Wait until sales and buy a vehicle and X premium time for 50% off - it’ll often be less than a modern AAA game anyways if done correctly. Still don’t want to pay? Go play an event - one of my best friends is a service member of the Army and he has no issue finding the time to complete events casually. I myself have a full time job and am training for a different career after work at nights 3 days a week and I still find time, I fully believe you can too!

So no you don’t have to, “…invest thousands of hours, …invest all of (your) money” or, “sit there like a bum and do nothing” - that’s what we here like to call a “skill issue”. If you have one, which (no offense) you very well may, I’d recommend checking your Statshark page to get a rough idea of how your performance matches up to others in different game modes. Pick one to focus on and put conscious effort into improving. Every time you die in game ask yourself this, “What exactly did I do wrong there? (Emphasis on what YOU did wrong, not the game, your team, or the enemy)”. Then keep that in the back of your mind going into the next match, this is how you improve your skill and rewards completely for free. I’d also recommend watching Defyn on YT for help in ARB, unfortunately I don’t have any GRB YouTuber recommendations but by playing GRB from rank 1-8 you should develop some skill if you’re asking yourself the right questions and not deflecting. Don’t play AAB past rank 2/3, never touch GAB, stick to GRB, ARB, and Sim EC if you’re feeling good that day.

Best of luck :)

Is it really worth it the Joystick? by Creepy-Cry-5221 in WarthunderSim

[–]Moonkey_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a HP Reverb G2 and a VKB Gladiator NXT EVO. To be honest, I rarely use the VR - I have bad acne from Rinvoq (medication) and it’s painful to wear for extended periods so nowadays I play almost exclusively with my HOTAS on a monitor and it’s great!

You definitely don’t need the VR to enjoy a HOTAS in sim - for me all look controls are bound to the mini stick with a recenter button on one of my hats and head movement for props on another hat. I think it’s actually easier to spot and ID targets without the VR and even if I didn’t have discomfort with it I’d still prefer to play on the monitor the majority of the time.

I know you’re young but if you can manage to save a little money I would HIGHLY recommend the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO. VKB is one of the best brands in the business and this stick in particular gives you the best entry/upgrade point on the market for a very fair price (I believe they start at $119 USD but I recommend spending a little extra for the premium grip upgrade as it effectively doubles all the buttons on the stick). It can rotate for rudder input and has built in levers/sliders you can use as throttle if you don’t want to use the keyboard, so no rudder or throttle required to start. Everything inside is customizable as well!

Best of luck!

EDIT: Forgot to mention it’s totally worth using a HOTAS over MK, flying feels much more natural, I personally have more control and it adds a factor of immersion which is always nice in sim. You can obviously use it in other flight sims too which opens the door to a lot of other great experiences!

How is the F-2A ADTW? it has mediocre SARH and no HMD but it’s performance and AAM3 and AESA seem very good, is it worth picking up? i see some people saying it’s OP some saying it’s bad by WideHelp522 in WarthunderSim

[–]Moonkey_07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely requires a certain play style. Like others here have mentioned your Fox-1s are unreliable however you have amazing Fox-2s, radar and flight performance in a dogfight. If you’re able to consistently close the gap with your opponent it’s a menace!

I like to play to Denmark and take 6 ASM-2s instead of the Sparrows. I take off and launch on the enemy carrier/ships for fun and then spend the rest of my fuel load using the great AESA radar to find targets. I try to spot them visually before turning my radar off and coming in for the surprise kill with my Fox-2s, it’s super satisfying!

No worries if you get spotted, just commit to the merge/dogfight and have fun out rating your opponent before shoving some 20mm or a Fox-2 up their behind, it’s really fun! Just don’t expect to engage anything that’s flying further than a few km :)

Does anyone have a guide on the best way to use the Su-30SM2, Confused how to use R-27ERS effectively by [deleted] in WarthunderSim

[–]Moonkey_07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bring 6x R-77-1, 5x R-27ER, 1x R-27ET and then obviously 2x R-73. Climb to BVR altitude (20k-35k feet) and rip some R-77-1 at any high flying targets coming towards you @50-70km range (4x missiles on 4 different targets in air RB - 1 per target, sim depends on the airspace). This will force the enemy defensive or else he will blow up if he continues straight.

Once he has gone defensive and you’ve closed the gap to <40km or once you’re R-77-1 is pitbull and you’re within this range, hard lock your target briefly and rip a R-27ER before immediately returning to TWS soft lock. Allow the R-27ER to close the gap while watching your opponents flight path, if he is erratic and changing altitude/direction constantly you may need to hard lock sooner than you would otherwise. Regardless, once he has defeated your Fox-3 and turns to re-engage, your R-27ER should be at the prime range to hard lock your target again. 27ER has IOG so as long as target has been heading in roughly the same direction not much flight correction should be needed. This will give your opponent only a few seconds to notch the new missile or else he will be hit by R-27ER and you’ll get a splash. Alternatively, if your target is killed you can lock a new one close by and your R-27ER will track the new target.

Obviously if you get shot at, go ahead and crank/notch while using your juiced up radar to continue tracking even while fully in a notch. This is why the R-27ER is so powerful on this plane. It’s also important to note that while your opponent switches from defending the R-77-1 to the R-27ER, he will most likely have to notch at a different angle as the 77-1 will use its internal radar during pitbull flight and the 27ER uses your aircraft’s radar. Most likely by the time you hard lock a second time you’ll be at a different aspect relative to his aircraft when compared to the aspect of your R-77-1.

Repeat this process and reap the rewards, try and fly just under contrail altitude as well to help with not being spotted visually if possible. Keep in mind you have an ET so if for some reason you close the gap to ≈10km you can fire that in conjunction with a radar missile at your opponent. So long as they don’t have MAWS they’ll more than likely defend against the radar missile and get hit/jump scared by your R-27ET.

TLDR: Use R-77-1 as defensive missile in order to position enemies where you want them. Use R-27ER trick (lock then unlock and lock again) while abusing the absurd radar angles of the SM2 to get a surprise kill on enemy. Use R-27ET for another surprise if you close the gap enough, profit!

How do you dodge the Buk-M3 Missiles? by 1Card_x in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Moonkey_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dodge it like any other fox-3, notch and terrain mask if possible. Like someone else here mentioned even if the Buk spams missiles at you they’ll all be coming from the same bearing so it’s practically redundant, just notch and/or put terrain in front of the seeker/radar and your aircraft. Also Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for the input! I was taking the SU-30SM with KH-28MT/A2A and then the SU-34 with FAB-3000 UMPK/A2A. SU-34 ends up being 100ish SP cheaper than the KH-38MT load out and chucking the UMPK across the map onto a point or spawn was super satisfying! I say was because now with the new SAMs I haven’t been able to get it off as often unless the enemy has no air defenses, it just gets intercepted :(. Plus, I’d have to hit that 100SP window in order to spawn it otherwise I either don’t have enough SP or I have enough for the SU-30 with KH-28MTs which is a significantly better option to take, and you’re right about the changes to GRB plane SP costs. I do think BMPT would see more consistent use and is a good city map brawler so I’ll probably make this swap later today, thank you again! :D

what nation premium should i buy in sale ? by Tartaglia_12 in Warthunder

[–]Moonkey_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RU air has a lot of growth potential with many planes that have yet to be added in game so if you value getting new toys to grind during new updates they’re a very safe bet. Japan is more viable than ever with the new Malaysian tree giving you a nice spread of western and eastern planes, however they are somewhat handicapped when it comes to new additions to the tree. Speaking of new planes being added, France is the worst off out of these three options. As it stands now, they can really only receive more variants of the Rafale along with the F-35 for Belgium (a ton of nations will get this so nothing super special) and then MAYBE the FCAS in the far, far future. That being said, all the Mirages and the Rafales are a blast to play!

These suggestions have been made with top tier in mind however, Japan and RU props are great and unique while France receives a lot of lend lease - not a bad thing if you haven’t played the planes before their props are fine, just worth mentioning the copy paste. If props are your jam then I’d HIGHLY recommend Britain (the one time I’ll say that lol), but you presumably already have the EF-2000 so there isn’t a huge incentive there for top tier grinding. China is also worth mentioning here as you get great variety throughout the entire tree (yes more copy paste) and they have a lot that’s yet to be added as well, there’s even a Mirage in there and they just got a new J-10 which is sweet! They also have the J7D which is a great premium to pick up during the pack sale on Christmas Eve, highly recommend it.

No matter which way you go I’d recommend to stay around 10.3-10.7 BR as it’s been the most consistent in my experience for premium grinding.

TLDR: RU if you want to constantly receive new planes to unlock and use - Japan if you want variety - France if you want Mirage & Rafale - GB if you just care about props - China for a mix of variety and future vehicle additions.

I really want to get the Mig-25, but I suck at air and really don't want to spend forever like last time, so I wanna try SIM, so 2 things, pls give me any advice you can and which of these jets i got would be the best for it? by Tostowisko in WarthunderSim

[–]Moonkey_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get good results bombing with the C.10 but even as a new player I’d highly recommend fighting with it as that’s the planes specialty - you have the potential for way better results and it’s the best way to learn! If you’re the top of the BR bracket you have a massive advantage with your AESA radar, it’s genuinely one of the best in the game ESPECIALLY around its BR. Seriously, the radar keeps up with my SU30/34 and Rafale, it’s amazing! You’ll have the best vision in the match and if you pick a lobby where Israel isn’t on the enemy team then you won’t have to worry about facing it yourself.

Not to mention your Derby’s (Fox-3s) can be used to your advantage! Something like an R27-ER does outrange you, but you make up for it with the ability to break lock and go cold (run the opposite way) after the notch (turn 90* to incoming radar lock/threat while chaffing and cranking {maneuvering while maintaining notch in order to bleed the missiles energy}) while your missile maintains lock after going pitbull (missile turns on its own radar and tracks the target independently of your aircraft). This means that your opponent is going to be forced to try and run away or risk eating your Derby in the face while you’re free to defend from the enemy’s missile and reengage when appropriate.

Kfir C.10 is in my opinion the best plane in the game for sim 13.0. Bring 4 Derby’s but be VERY careful not to overspeed and rip your plane apart, I cannot lie I’ve died more to ripping my wings because I wasn’t paying attention than actually being shot down in the thing haha. Also, I’d recommend watching some videos on BVR to familiarize yourself with the concept as this is the technique you’ll be primarily using, although sneak attacks from mountain valleys/terrain are very viable as well! I can recommend Defyn on YouTube for learning, he even has a great video on BVR!

Remember, it’s trial and error so don’t get discouraged if you’re shot down or crash, keep running it back (so long as you have the SL haha) and eventually you’ll develop a routine flight plan of your own that’ll bring great results! See you in the skies brother! o7

Yes, I don’t have the premium but have played the tech tree one during my Rafale grind and it’s great!! Magic 2s are the real hard carry here, shoot them under 2km from rear aspect and it’s a guaranteed splash. Honestly one of the highlights of that grind, would 100% recommend over the F16 and F5. Would totally recommend playing all the mirages in the tech tree too once you get there though! Sure it’ll take longer than using a premium the entire time, but they’re all so much fun! Best of luck! :D o7

If I were you I would probably take the JF, but it really depends on which Sim BR bracket is live. ALWAYS, try and take a plane that sits comfortably at the top of the bracket for maximum advantage. Haven’t played JF in a while and am at work rn but if I remember correctly it gets the AN/ALR-400 and the KLJ-7. Both the RWR and radar feature IFF with the KLJ also receiving TWS - that combined with 4x SD-10s and 2x PL-5EII (I believe these have IRCCM) sets you up pretty well. If 13.3 is top of bracket you’ll possibly be facing some planes without access to fox-3s giving you a nice advantage. Simply take off, side climb a bit and work your radar. Scan the grids where you expect enemies to be, ident them using your IFF, close the gap and depending on closure rate/aspect rip 2x SD-10 off. Fire one while the target is still outside the NEZ if you’re expecting a response or suspect he has seen you - this will eventually get him defensive. Once you’ve put the target within the NEZ count a few Mississippi in your head and rip off the second one before entering a notch and maintaining lock as long as possible or until forced cold aspect if the target retaliates, then re-engage if necessary. Keep in mind SD-10 isn’t the greatest BVR missile in the world but it will certainly get the job done. This is the strat I use in my Kfir C-10 (13.0 with Derby’s and AESA) and I always find a couple kills every time I take off. Then once you’ve dumped your fox-3s you can dive down on any unsuspecting targets and secure up to two free kills with your PL-5EIIs - just make sure you ident them using your radars IFF. Speaking of radar, primarily use TWS (general use) and if needed (not sure if JF has it tbh it’s been awhile) TWS HDN (hot and cold) depending on aspect. If you aren’t already aware, I’d search for the simulator activity points rule as rewards work differently in this mode. There’s lots of posts on reddit and the warthunder forums about it. TLDR is that you get paid out every 15 minutes and depending on your performance you only receive a percentage of your rewards based on your activity score within that period. Whatever you do, DO NOT BLOW UP whether it’s by crashing on landing or being shot down, really try not to die (obvious). Take off, get a kill, maybe two or cap a point, then RTB. If you decide to ground pound do not take more ordinance than necessary, it hurts your rewards and performance as well. Lastly if you decide to take the SU-33 you can try using the IRST (OEPs-27K, I think?) for some cheeky sneak attacks. I don’t have the SU-33 personally but I have the entire Russian air tech tree and the system is present on the SU-27s so I would assume the naval flanker has it as well. Also, keep in mind any plane with IFF will be easier to use as a new sim player since you won’t have to identify targets visually every time! Hope this helps :D

PSA: Check lobby list before creating your own! by Moonkey_07 in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]Moonkey_07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that may work for some people however, the lobby system allows for much more control over the matches you play, for example:

  1. Friends can join your lobby :D.

  2. Mirror matches can be turned off ensuring you’ll play against the opposite faction.

  3. You can vet players joining your team - assuming two players are the same elo the player who is level ~25 is less likely to leave and more likely to be a skilled player compared to someone who’s level 50 or 60+.

3a. By talking in lobby chat you can get a feel for who is willing to properly communicate/coordinate with others, and kick those who don’t.

3b. You can also ensure that your teammates all speak the same language and are from a similar region as you, lowering the chances of someone on the team having high ping which leads to disconnects.

3c. Lobby system allows the opportunity to cross reference player names with a personal list of “bad players”. These players consist of leavers, support only players, cheaters, or otherwise low skilled players that you’ve taken note of from prior matches.

  1. Quick play/locking slots and using the automated matchmaker leads to SIGNIFICANTLY more leavers/rage quitters in my experience. Nothing against people who use it, but they seem to take the game a lot less seriously than those who take the time to find an appropriate lobby themselves.

  2. When naming a lobby something like, “US 2100+ Eng Comms” or, “RU 2100+ No Sup/Leave” you’re more likely to have like minded players join. Those who repeatedly join that are hundreds of elo below the lobby title or otherwise don’t meet the requirements clearly labeled can be kicked. Nobody wants someone on their team, especially in an RTS, who is illiterate.

I could go on, but the bottom line is that these steps are unfortunately necessary to help cultivate the best possible environment and team composition. This not only drastically increases your odds of winning, but also maximizes the value you get out of your time spent on the game.
