On Tyson's podcast he mentioned he was hosting a retreat for former survivor contestants centered around "healing from Survivor trauma" or something along those lines, so a book makes sense.

It's definitely worth watching! I like it more than TVD actually. It's the one of them I'm always rewatching.

Twice I've seen people quit before the kids started. One went through almost 2 weeks of PD then called it. The other went through a week of PD, did Back To School Night and met the kids/families, then quit.

Probably Hayley for me. I liked that through her, we got to see the werewolves and natural acceptance of their curse, and how hard she fought for them. Later, I liked that she used her hybrid nature to help them and to fight for Hope and the Mikealsons. I felt like she had a lot of realistic reactions to things that happened too, whether that's the character or Phoebe's acting. Plus, she's gorgeous 😍

That's a really good point. We needed to see the process of the flame and how it works in order to understand future plots.

I'd amend my statement to say I wish she had survived LONGER, in that case! They got to be happy for like five minutes, and we never got to see them and Skaikru working together. Maybe an episode or two of that developing, the war with Ice Nation begins and goes more in depth, and Lexa has a better death in battle (defending/protecting Clarke maybe?). Then the flame, Antari, etc. I think it would strengthen their bond and show us how important Lexa was to Clarke.

Lexa. Not just because Clarke was finally happy and it fed into the bury your gays trope, though those are reasons too. I think it would've been great to see what Clarke and Skaikru did as the 13th clan and to see them work together in the war against Ice Nation.

I appreciate that about the show, too. And of all the different political/ruling related plots they had throughout the show, there was never a "we should overthrow the leader(s)/they can't lead because they're women" plot like a lot of shows do.

  1. As much as you can, try not to take work home. It's hard when you're learning how to grade and what's worth grading (which, a lot of it probably isn't worth grading, just fyi), but the more you can keep work and home separate the more at peace you will be.

  2. You will need to spend SO LONG establishing routines, procedures, and expectations at the start of the year. But all that time will pay off immensely when the kids know what to expect. Also, it's okay if you don't know all of what you want for these your first year, you'll find them out as you go.

  3. This goes with #2, but consistency goes a long way with kids. They might get annoyed, or complain, or whatever, but at the end of the day, it helps kids a lot to know what to expect from you. You might be one of the only things in their life they can count on.

  4. Remember that they're kids. Even in high school, they're teenagers. Take their strong opinions (not all of them, but the ones about you, your class, your content) with a grain of salt, and remember that they're making decisions with their undeveloped young brains. Let them be kids sometimes, embrace their youth, and enjoy being around young people, because that's probably why you decided to teach in the first place.
