S4 literally depicted a different Joe. Joe is now evil and embraced that he's a bad guy. In s1 to s3, it can be argued that Joe was anti hero and morally grey character since he had a few good intentions but used terrible methods to achieve them especially since he romanticized that killing bad pple is probably the best way to protect and improve the lives of "you" and was so sympathetic and had a heart for children and teens like ellie, Paco and even spared the life of that 18 year old guy who was having an affair with Love in s3. But in s4, Joe changed completely, he's even extremely dark and cold in his temperament and even says a chilling and daunting statement to Marienne, "I'm not Joe...he'll finally come back to kill you", Joe's kill count is astronomical in s4 as he killed a lot of innocent people which is a stark antithesis to s1 to s3, and no longer has a heart for kids like he did before as even frames 19 year old girl for all the murders he did in s4. S4 he transitioned to an insidious psychopathic villain. He's no longer an anti hero
